I don't really hate anime but I don't really like it. If there's a good show and a good plot then it's worth watching, but if it's something immature and boring like Naruto I won't like it.

One good thing about anime is it's length. american shows are often 1h long and several seasons while most anime is 13-24 episodes and 24m per episode.

People can get obsessed by anything and if you're not particular familiar with it you will always perceive it as annoying and weird, natural reaction. If the concept of, say, football wasn't such an integrated part of the western society you'd get bothered/uncomfortable around people having loud discussions about their favorite teams as well. Some people are just like that with things they really like.

I like anime but a lot of anime japanaphiles, also known as weaboos, are terrible. It's why we will never take it seriously. Also fangirls. Fangirls ruin everything.
My favorites are:
Early Yu Yu Hakusho episodes (later ones are shit), FLCL, Paranoia Agent, Cowboy Bebop, Deathnote (though fangirl ruined as usual), and Blue Gender. Also watching Kaiji right now, that one's really good.

This. Anime is easy to pick up and drop, short seasons and short episodes. Which is also why there is so much of it, currently airing series get a new episode a week, unlike western cartoons which are seemingly in a permanent state of re-runs.

You make it sound like anime is something by itself. As if it's nothing like movies, books, comics and TV shows. It's the same shit. How do you find good shows, movies, comics, books or TV shows? You listen to recommandations or search for something that fits your interest.

Sorry, but no. Just avoid really badly rated shows or massively hated shows. Also the newer a show is the more likely it is that it is well animated as the general budget seems to be higher for most companies these days so now they can afford 10-12 FPS animation for a long run instead of 6-8 FPS so to say.
