I like anime, but it's the people who I know and hang around with make it look bad, this generally goes for most of the anime watching/manga reading population as well. They won't keep quite about it, and there's this crazy chick in my school who blurts out Japanese words and talks about Yaoi all day.

Me, I don't mind anime, it's just some of the fans that drive me up the wall. There's some damn good anime out there. That doesn't mean that all of it is good. I mean, I am a fan of some american cartoons, but it doesn't define the way I act, or anything like that. I'm not in cartoon club. I don't go to cartoon conventions. I talk about things that aren't cartoons.

Why not just check out Cowboy Bebop right now? Just get ahold of 1-3 episodes, watch and judge. Just like any other kind of show.

That's also pretty much the same all over the world.
What I'm saying is that there isn't really any difference between how people that like anime is being recieved, be it in Japan, USA, Poland, Sweden, Italia, Moscow, Germany, whatever. The general attitud is really similar all over.

I wouldn't know for sure. But yes, those factors, plus what some other people have told from own experience form being there are firm enough for me.
Whilst humans are really different in one way we are still really similar in many ways. We usually have very similar reason for liking and disliking things and things are usually recieved in the same manner in all countries (the difference usually is between what type of country it is, a first world, second world or third world country seeing as they can be raised up in very different ways based on how they are going to survive. The major difference being third world).
There will be differences, but they are usually small. Differences around 5-15% which is really more based on just who you get to ask in a survey.
It is also generally well known that you won't be well recieved if you travel to Japan only because of your interest in anime, trying to communicate with what you've learned through the show and telling them that you like it.
Because there are such genres called "Large breasts" And "Gigantic breasts" And even more that they are two different genres..

I hate most anime. I only like classics, like Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo wasn't bad either. I mean, people should give anime a chance, not all animes are generic Naruto crap.
Boondock Saints, Dead Leaves, and Dragonball Z are the only animes I can think of that I enjoyed. I hear Cowboy Bebop is good as well.
