Lucky Star is indeed pretty limited, but that is totally made up for by how awesome and super simple the style is.
Again, I still don't see how western animation has "greater variety". You pull up Ed, Edd and Eddy as an example even though it quite deliberately is all over the place, and even though it's a newly drawn face each cut they still pretty much all fall into :downs: 90% of the time.

And what about the DC universe style? Talk about stoneface, they all have square jaws and grumpy faces 100% of the time, even the women. I could go on, but I don't want to pull out every cartoon ever. If you're talking faces like in the big Disney productions, you can't compare that to the average shitty animé, you have to hold it up to animé productions of similar scope.
So every style comes with tradeoffs and gains.

Okay to end the animation argument...the Japan's animation styles clash. You have the goofy facial caricatures and then serious almost life like demeanor seconds before hand. You can definitely tell with American animation that its going to be goofy, out of proportion and just all over the place. Japan's gives me the feeling like its trying hide that fact where as America is like in your face.

Anime is really no better or worse than any other cartoon or anything else animated, you can't really compare the two either because of how different they are. It'd be like comparing the old Mickey Mouse to South park.

My point was that there's way more variation in how faces and expressions are drawn BETWEEN all those western shows, not within them.

Not really I'd say. Going from Pokémon to Haruhi they might as well be shows from different ends of the world. You have crazy creepy shit like Yu-Gi-Oh and rustic old schoolers like Dragonball. Animé has a wide variety of styles too. You're just thinking of the shiny eyes too much. Most westernly animated eyes pretty much draw directly from Disney anyway so it's not like that's any better.

Only real difference I can see is that Pokemon is more cheaply drawn. But they still share the same aesthetic ideas, like huge eyes, trapezoidal heads, garish colors, and unnaturally colored spiky hair.
And this Haruhi thing unsurprisingly gives off a bit of a creepy pedophile vibe.

You really can't draw a whole lot of comparisons between those images. Pokemon isn't even that well shaded in the show.
