Arguing about hair in anime is pretty retarded when anything anybody draws with the purpose of animation, western cartoon or anime, lacks realistic hair even when the art is well done (simple or otherwise). It's just obviously too hard to.

Seriously what the fuck.
Really though, it just comes down to artforms. People draw shit differently.
King of the Hill didn't need to perfect the hair but they did do good.
Oh and by didn't need to perfect the hair I mean it in a way that they had good story, great animation, execution, character development and overall quality.
Anime = slang for drawing.
Everything is Anime.
Anime sucks = Cartoons sucks
Logic flawed.
Cannot compute.

I see Anime as being short for Animation of the Japanese kind.
1. The really big eyes (they have a weird shape aswell, its sort of like a circle but without edges)
2. The dumb hairstyles (spikes... nuf said)
3. The massive weapons the characters hold (Giant swords, giant guns, giant everything... probably animators overcompensating)
4. Annoying voices (especially the Jap voices, worst actors in the world hired to scream and they get 10 year old girls to play 25 year old guys)
5. Terrible writing for the most part (No flow, filler episodes, seriously retarded)
6. The annoying expressions they make
It's as if you didn't read the posts above yours at all.
I see Anime as being short for Animation of the Japanese kind.
Well it isn't. Anime is a slang for cartoons in the japanese language, not the drawing style.
Yeah I guess it pretty much is, but of course it has come to mean Japanimation or simply using the stereotypic style.
(Protip: Animation = Cartoon, just a fancy word because obviously cartoons can't be good.)
Anime = slang for drawing.
Anime is "アニメ" in Japanese (Same pronunciation), which literally translates to animation (the abbreviated version, that is).
There's a lot of badly-written Western stuff, but most anime is an order of magnitude worse. It's like comparing a burglar to Osama bin Laden.
I think why people say most anime stuff is written so much worse is because of how anime (at least from what I've seen) is much more obviously trope heavy, wither it be the plot or the characters themselves.
What do you mean by "Media types"? That could be computer format such as MKV or AVI to DVD or UMD.
By "media types" I mean: Plays, Movies, Cartoons, Live Action, ECT ECT. It's all media right? They all need some from of writing right? So bad writing can effect them all, it's not something that is limited at all to anime.
There are a lot of things wrong with this image, lets point them out.

That makes sense in context. That character, Gretel (or Hansel, long spoilery story) from Black Lagoon, is a batshit insane preteen who spent most of his/her (again, long spoilery story) early life getting brutally raped and forced to kill people in snuff films. After the Romanian dictatorship hir "films" were supporting collapsed, s/he was turned loose on the streets and went on a horrific killing spree.
There's a nice scene where a mobster's talking to his buddy, leaves to go take a shit and get some booze, and then when he comes back his buddy's tied to a chair with like 30 nails hammered through his head and those fucking twins laughing about how he was still twitching until the eighth one went in.
Black Lagoon's actually a good series by the way, it's basically Lord of War mixed with a John Woo movie and stretched out for 24 episodes (soon to be 36, 3rd season coming this summer if I remember correctly).
I don't really think it's more trope heavy, there are lots of fairly common themes and tropes in western animation too, some even extends to all forms of storytelling across all cultures no matter what they are, it's just more apparent with anime because there's a slighty different set of tropes from what you are used to.
It is, and they're really nothing alike. No more alike than Edd, Ed and Eddy is to Aladdin anyway.
There are plenty of major differences between EE&E and Disney animations, like line quality, character proportion, use of color, movement, rendering, timing, etc. Your two animes are not substantially different in most of those areas. Characters are proportioned similarly, line quality is the same, the way the characters move and deform is similar, and so on. The rendering is the most significant difference, and even that's not huge--they still have the inverted-house heads, banana-spiked purple hair (even if it flops around in the pedo show), this that and the third. And that's just the visuals.
If you look at sound and writing the differences between Aladdin and EE&E are even more pronounced. EE&E has ridiculous, often inhuman sounding voices, and dimwitted, memetic writing. Aladdin has only slightly caricaturized voice acting and very straight-laced writing.
On the other hand...Pokemon has dimwitted, memetic writing and ridiculous voice acting. Haruhi has dimwitted, memetic writing and ridiculous voice acting. And pretty predictably so--all the anime tropes of creepy gasps and moans indicating emotion, faux-cutesy shit, etc comprise the majority of this stuff.
I will say that I do like Pokemon, because it doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is--a stupid, cornball cartoon aimed to get kids to buy shit. It's got an intelligent self-awareness that seems lacking in the so-called "good" animes that otaku kids put forward of examples of how awesome anime is.

Of all the people defending anime in this thread you've been the most consistently unreasonable and irrationally partisan. If you're not interested in having an intelligent discussion, that's cool, but don't expect blind denial to change anyone's mind.
Anime is bad stuff, like a drug
I don't like Anime because of the ridiculously soppy looking eyes, massive spikey, multicoloured hair 80% of the time, katanas and massive guns, and because 70% of the characters seem to be able to destroy the world. and the fact that most people I know are obsessed with it. One of my friends actually wants to be Japanese now and has a go at anyone who has anything negative to say about them. To me, it corrupts the minds of my friends.
He's just regurgitating previous preconceived misjudgements again, I already addressed most of them. The whole prior discussion doesn't suddenly cease to exist just because he repeats himself. I tell him he is completely wrong and it should be obvious from the context why. If it isn't, go back and re-read my posts. They are relevant.

I just love it when you people accuse me of the things you are guilty of yourself. I am the one here who have been holding animé to no higher or lower standard than any other medium, you are the one insisting that it is in some way inferior by drawing unrealistic comparisons and making false claims.
I think why people say most anime stuff is written so much worse is because of how anime (at least from what I've seen) is much more obviously trope heavy, wither it be the plot or the characters themselves.
Mmmaybe. Western stuff has a lot of tropes too, I'm not convinced that's the reason anime is written so poorly. I think it's more grounded in cultural reasons--for example, in Japan femininity is associated with infantile behavior. That tends to manifest in a lots of female anime characters who act like they're 5 years old (the Japanese equivalent of coquettishness). That apparently works for Japanese people, and a lot of western anime fans, who presumably either overlook it or find it attractive because of their own sex-starved bigotry). But to your average progressive urban westerner, for whom female intelligence and empowerment are considered a good thing, it's repulsively stupid.
That makes sense in context. You're really good at making things worse and should just stop posting here altogether.
Violence doesn't make anything adult. Ever. Yet you go on about it trying to look edgy while failing to mention Black Lagoon's incredibly good character development and story.

So, in other words it's a culture difference. The reason why I mention tropes is because there is just so much more anime out there compared to western cartoons so it's much easier to notice common tropes if you watch enough anime, it's even more apparent when you go into the different types, like drama action ect. Not saying these don't appear in other media types they just seem to be more "HEY LOOK AT ME I'M RIGHT HERE" in anime.

I've explained myself at great length. Most of your posts are little more than denials and half-assed rationalizations. If you stop taking things so personally and start backing your assertions up with actual analysis I think we could have a much better discussion here.
Or, I could do it the other way and just say this is incredibly stupid and how could anyone actually enjoy watching this?

Now that you point it out, you're right.
By the way I'm just in it for the artistic style. Most anime's lack in Story, good audio voicing, good actors, and character development. Even Angel Beats lacks in all of these even though I dislike saying it. I've only seen a few good animes but I've only watched like 8 complete animes including movies.
I already talked about the hair- I can't believe you are so blind you can even compare the two styles-, I really cannot comment on voicework because I honestly have very little idea what is considered normal in japanese, and my only reference for pokemon is the local dub.
I didn't talk about the writing, but I will then, Pokémon is beyond retarded I think we can agree. But honestly, Haruhi is by no means dimwitted, nor memetic. In fact I'd venture that it is extraordinarily good, I'd put it alongside the better Star Trek writing, and perhaps some of the Kubrick stuff. Whoever this Nagaru Tanigawa person is, he is obviously a smart fellow. The mere fact that this is popular gives me a glimmer of hope in the world that people are not all a bunch of drooling idiots.

Did you forget that most anime character development is generic and reused shit from other animes?
The best Animes are the poorly dubbed ones because then it becomes like a surrealist comedy rather than some poorly written show.
Example, Angel Cop
Yeah, yeah Dragonball and Naruto sucks, I know. It's not like every piece of western animation is a glimmering example of great writing. In fact as you may recall a lot of stupid shit is always popular.
