Well in my school they made us do push-ups or stand outside in the burning heat for an hour, or a combination of both whenever we misbehaved or didn't do our homework. I remember this really hot English teacher spent more time punishing us by making us stand in class while carrying our bags above our heads.
It sucked, but at least no one dared to mess around in front of the teachers.
Plus some physical discipline is good so that kids don't get over their heads and think they are above the system.
Like George Carlin always said: "The only thing you need to pass school is a god damn pencil."

In year 8 you don't really need to know how to write an essay properly. I only learnt in year 9 or 10 and am able to write pretty fucking good essays now. It's not all that necessary to have a developed writing style that early since you're still learning the fundamentals (moving into the flourishes) of the language anyway.

Well, when i look on the younger classes, the e.g. 6th grade is like 4th grade, the 4th is like the 2nd, and the second are like fucking kindergarten kiddies.

"In Europe", speaking so generally is just silly. I've gone to school in 2 different countries, and the differences are huge, and i do believe the same rule goes in most other countries.
Other e.g. if you take Africa, some of them poor kids don't even have the opportunity to go to school, while some schools in other regions (like Israel) are top class.

Here in Ontario, Canada. i went to a Catholic school (even if your really not Catholic you can go anyways, they are at least better then public schools). But even though they allow non Catholic to go they still FORCE you to go to church, During school time.

I live in france, I have school from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening. And I have to say, it is ok, we don't have to do any shitty stuff, only the teachers are either fucking assholes or too nice and the students fuck with them. Although some manage to be in the middle what tends to be epic then.
Schools are mostly getting better, the people that go to school on the other hand...
Seriously, when only 2 out of 11 people in the class know who Ghandi was, it's worrying.

At my school about 1/5 kids do drugs or smoke, im not kidding either i really hated that school. I would sneak out of class early just to avoid waiting at the bus stop with 15 yr old druggies.

Sometimes we pass by a group of underage smokers on the walk home from school. They try to scare my little sister just because she's autistic :saddowns:, but my Mom sneaked a video of them all smoking and stuff while we were walking home one day (I was the only one who noticed her, and she just told me not to say anything) and will hopefully get them in trouble for smoking, doing drugs and maybe even underage alcohol abuse. :buddy:
