I use tumblr on a regular basis, and without a mnetric shitload of filters it's a shithole in and of itself.
I remember seeing somebody passively mention the word "rape" as in "George Lucas has raped and beaten up Star Wars," and then within an hour I had a massive wall of text from somebody I follow calling the rape apologist scum every terrible thing under the sun and ranting for an eternity.
It's full of people who believe that being offended by every single fucking thing is perfectly fine and they are entitled to toss their shit at somebody because they flicked a peanut at them.

Having said that, there's some legitimate talent there. I kept track of somebody who wrote fanfiction, who ende dup being a fucking genius when it comes to literature. With every community, there are layers upon layers of shit hiding a small chunk of gold. It's like how everyone on facepunch with the exception of two people - one of which being our french savior we all know and love - are horrible jewist(sic), racist, women hating Argentinians.

I like Tumblr. These issues do exists but every website has their own quirk that makes it a shithole. I usually ignore it and just go on reblogging gifs and endlessly scrolling down.

Most of the time it just seems as if they're trying to be condescending or edgy, as if to say "I don't care enough about what you said to warrant a reply with any effort whatsoever."

The whole tumblr activist scene is by and large a pretty vain community. They use popular opinions and condescending tones to simply gather more of a following. They also capitalize on certain issues because they KNOW it'll get them more popular rather than because that's whats important to them or thats a primary issue in the world. Some people in here described it as a circle jerk and I sort of agree, it's a lot of patting themselves and each other on the back for simply doing a whole lot of nothing.

One of the problems I suppose they didn't mention is that Tumblr is one of the best examples of Poe's Law. There are plenty of trolls who know how Tumblr works and love to get them riled up with posts like this. On the other hand, there are also just as many people, if not more, who genuinely believe and spout this garbage.
