The whole being in a fandom only applies to you when you call yourself as part of the fandom. If not then you are not associated with the fandom and people can't say you're in the fandom. Being gay is different. It's part of you more than a fandom. It's your sexual orientation. No matter how much of a furry or brony or otaku you are, it won't be as much of a change in your life as being gay. Also being gay is a bigger deal than enjoying something on a fandom.

And that isn't distinct from zoophilia the way I see it, it's just more intertwined with an attraction to people

Why on earth do some of you people fucking think that being gay and being a furfag are on the same level? Furries aren't taunted at in real life and only over the internet (for the most part, but I've not heard of a single case in real life where furries were "oppressed" like gays are/have been.) Gays had been treated horribly in real life in older times, and still really are in modern times, but not as badly as they were back then. Furries have only had to face shit being thrown at them online, not offline. And not to the same extent that gays have been. The most that they've had to face is trolling here and there, and I can't think of a single time that I've heard of/read of where furries were discriminated against in real life. The most that people have probably done is take one look at them in their cosplaying costume and go "what a weirdo" and just look the other way, going on with their business. They are not comparable in any way, shape or form.

Guessing if someone is gay is a lot easier than if someone is a furry. Or in any fandom in that matter. The subject of being gay is more popular in the real world. We have actual churches than are anti-gay and actively protest at places down to as horrifyingly sad as a gay soldiers funeral. Furries on the other hand has been restricted more towards the Internet and their own conventions. I mean there were some protesters at some of their conventions before and there's even some dedicated websites and organizations to hate them. Beyond that is minimal. The furry fandom is seen as an interest no more than Japaneae culture with their Anime and such or the geeky nerd culture with superheroes, comic books and video games. To say being gay has the same level of hatred and bashing in real life is the same has being a furry or under any fandom is stupid and unrealistic.

Well, It does look like Kitty's matured a bit over the years, and it's nice to see that him and halfambada are cool with each other now. (so it seems)
