Birthday gift right before divorce, man takes it back or woman gets it?

As said before legally it is the womans. The law states that anything given as a gift cannot be reclaimed in the event of something like a divorce.
This is how a lot of people used to skip out on inheritance tax (the percentage you pay the government on the money/property you inherit) by giving their home or all of their money to their children as a gift instead of leaving it in a will. Of course this only worked in on-your-death-bed situations or if you had a terminal illness.
Also i think, here in the UK at least, they have been bastards and brought in something like 'gift tax' when giving huge sums of money or property as gifts; to stop it happening.
Need moar details. Why are they divorcing in the first place?
