Sure, I see why they're adding reddit subforums but I don't get why they're limiting avatars to 16x16

No, the user created sub-forums with their own mods is something which could provide quite beneficial. If one of our regulars who is trusted is moderating the lgbt side, we wouldn't have to wait for a mod to barge in whenever some guy decides to start shit, and instead, have them be dealt with quicker.
What I'm dreading is people forming their own hugboxes and/or secret clubs and excluding everyone from them who they disagree with even the slightest.
What happened last time custom forums were a thing is they all fizzled out and died as it was one general thread in each forum pretty much.
Although I miss the furry forum that was pretty cool.

This is what I'm worried about. Garry seems to want this place to run itself, which is a neat idea, but I worry about the concept of hidden forums turning this place into a 4Chan style site of posting anything without worry.

the new one is one big pixel art gimmick but i can see the appeal

Is that really the case? I NEVER use 4Chan, but the one time I did visit the video game board because I was bored and wanted to see more content for a certain game, someone was posting their hand drawn pedo stuff. That made me nope the everlasting fuck out.

I feel like facepunch doesn't have the amount of users necessary to sustain the reddit style approach Garry seems to be pursuing? Even this thread wouldn't be able to survive being broken into its own subforum without additional users from like the furry groups or whatever
FP's lack of users actually reassures me a little. Everybody seems to be worried about splintering communities (like reddit's three or four pc gaming subreddits) and incredibly specific subforums being created for no reason, but I don't think that will happen at all. We don't have the users. In my opinion, we won't end up with many more active subforums than we had subforums before the culling a while back. I'm excited for the change, and at the very least this means we'll get the TV and music subforums back.
No global moderators is absolutely retarded, though.
