The 2014 FIFA World Cup Thread - The only time people give a shit about football!

Yeah i agree we are not ready, but its making me enjoy all this more, treating ourselves as underdogs will be much more fun than the typical England fan who is absolutely slating the England team and putting them down right now.
Today, I went to the stadium where the opening of the World Cup will take place. There are entire areas without walls and temporary tarps. From what I saw, pretty much nothing was finished. And this is six days from the start of the games. Also, at the same time, the subway workers are having strikes and Sao Paulo, city of the opening, just had its third worst day in terms of traffic.
But, uh, don't let that stop you guys from celebrating. Seriously. I'm not a big fan of soccer but I can see where some people take the enjoyement from. And I still remember being quite thrilled by the 2002 World Cup. It is a very fun event, so don't let these problems get to your head. We'll deal with them, but for now, get your friends, some chips, turn on the TV and have fun. It's on the house. Just remember to not be a dick, no need to bring in violence to what seems like a naturally cheery sport.
Also, things at the stadium are very very loud. I dunno how people manage to stay in there for an hour and a half.
Is it sad that I'm rooting for Brazil mainly because if they lose hundreds will die in riots?
Things are not that bad (at least I think there aren't hundreds dying in the current riots) but they won't get better even if we win.
got germany in a sweepstake, and reus is out with a partially torn ligament
fuck
Hopefully this world cup brings surprises.
I wouldn't be surprised if Brazil takes the cup in their own home.
But I see a good chance for Germany, they are a strong team.
Who knows, anything can happen.

I also think that there is a good chance that Germany will come out on top but there is something not clicking at the moment. I first thought of this when I was watching Bayern Munich play, they have around 6-8 German internationals playing at any one given time and they were nothing but poor performers in the most recent champions league.
Guys, socceraid is up!

Bayern's players are starting to burn out, it's been a remarkably long season for them. I see them reaching the semis easily but the loss of Reus will affect them.
I pulled out Australia in a sweepstake... fml

I pulled France and Holland, no that bad.
Oooh, that's what the chant says? Had no clue before that video, heard the chant now and then but no idea what people were saying.
But as much as I'd like to believe, it's going to be one hell of a stretch for the US. Going to definitely pull out a win against Ghana, and probably one against Portugal as well just to get past the group stage. Doesn't sound very likely.

You'll draw against Ghana and lose by at least 2 against Portugal.
Anyone else betting?

Go Ivory Coast
i like how the OP ripped the pots from wikipedia (totally pointless) yet only showed Group A and their matches
for fucks sake, if you're going to write a world cup thread, do it right
shamelessly stolen from r/soccer:

that kicks ass, a little hard to read but certainly better than just having Group A
if USA wins a match, we'll make our own trophy and celebrate it on the flight back
Woohoo World cup is just a few more hours away!
what happens if all the players are sent off?
what happens if all the players are sent off?
I'm pretty sure the number of players sent off from each team is limited. When a team surpasses the limit, they get contumated.
Brazil v Croatia today yey.
Score predictions?
2-0 Brazil IMO
i fucking hate the world cup all my friends aren't coming out to do fun stuff because they're going to watch every match

what if the ball bursts mid-air but would have been a goal if it didn't burst.

[sp]No goal.[/sp]
awesome thread in the soccer subforum on SA called "You Are The Ref". it used to be a weekly newspaper panel type game where you'd get a few scenarios and you'd have to decide what the outcome of each was
3-0 final score of Brazil v. Croatia is my prediction
For now, I'll keep the thread this way, and I don't want to copy nearly everything from Wikipedia. I'll update it soon when I get more better infographics and pictures.
although idk if he attempted to find better infographics and pictures.
What a bad opening, it's not like it matters, but man that was bad
