I really don't see why people on the internet feel the need to pick apart another persons religion. Let them beleive what they want to beleive.
yes christians did 9/11
But they did do the Crusades, and they do persecute minorities (take gays for example)
What people don't seem to get is that attacking religion is NOT the same as attacking religious people. Religion is an idea, and a militant atheist's enemy is the idea, not the people who believe it. When high-profile atheists make videos, they're either informational, and made to dispel misinformation, or they might attack a religious video or video-maker who has gone out of their way to spread misinformation. Not once can I remember seeing someone barge in on a religious person's video and hurl insults at them without the video in question taking the first shot at science, minorities or atheists themselves. The problem, of course, is that on the Internet, if you find a video about religion, it's not likely to be just a bible-study podcast, it's almost certain to have an unsubtle agenda about reaffirming someone's faith. The Internet being so notoriously full of atheists and information, the odds that a religious person is going to type "why god is real" into their search engine, fearing their own doubts, is high, and therefore videos with that idea in mind are likely to get a lot of hits if they seem compelling. So, such a thing becomes popular among that group. Problem is... religion is bullshit, and the people searching youtube to solidify their faith in god want scientific reasons that either god is real, or that atheists are wrong. And when the video makers try and give them what they want, their desperate scramble to cobble together something outwardly compelling is going to result in a lot of shoddy research, willful disinformation and a disgusting disregard for the science that contradicts their aims. And people who know REAL science, people who value reason and abhor the spread of ignorance, aren't going to stand for it. They counter the crap with the facts, and they take no prisoners. It's not a matter of letting people believe what they want, we're not stopping them, we'd never tell them what they're allowed to believe, as much as we hope one day that they'll see what we see. But that said, if anyone tries to stifle one's educational growth, justify horrible and unethical things, sway public policy or otherwise infringe upon someone's rights on religious grounds, they have an opposition that is always willing to act. And of course, if there was no religion, it wouldn't be the magic bullet that ended all wars, discrimination or ignorance. Of course not. The world isn't that simple. But you have to admit, when nothing is inherently sacred, and you can no longer justify bigotry with religion, it makes such things smaller and more repressed than you can imagine. And of course, you're not likely to strap a bomb to your chest if you don't believe in the afterlife...

To the people who do justify stuff using this, the only way to break down their justification is to break the whole thing down completely.
Oh man this is hilarious.
Militant Christians blow up abortion clinics. Militant Muslims blow up buildings. Militant Hindus discriminate and antagonize Muslims. Militant atheists... make fun of people. Somebody call up Jon Stewart and let him know that his show is hate speech and terrorism. [editline]13th April 2012[/editline] No, New Religion is a Duran Duran song.
Militant atheists are the worst type of people in the world WORST THAN HITLER!!!!!! seriously though militant atheists sometimes really just make fun of the bad kind of "in your face your bad" theists

Meh, we should probably close this place before the flaming starts. Still though, you guys have been very nice so far in handling my message and supporting your opinions without getting pissed of about it, so I thank you for that. It's just inevitable that someone will come and ruin it sooner or later.
