You can get both smart arse. Pilot licenses are less restricted then a certification. It all depends on why type of aircraft you pilot and what type of work you want to do.
As far as I know you can get sport, recreational, private, commercial, and airline transport pilot certificates. Then type ratings are added for aircraft over 12,500 lbs.
A certificate is proof that one is qualified, a license is granted by a civil authority that one is certified. In the US a pilot certificate never expires, so it isn't a license, since there are recency requirements. I.E. I have my private certificate currently and that never expires, but if I haven't flow a plane in 20 years, I have a valid certificate but i'm not legal to fly.
You're correct though I'm just being a smart ass the differences between a license and a certificate is pretty minimal, and maybe I've just never seen a license. Mine says certificate anyway, show me a license.

Join the Air adets. Free pilots liscence if you show initiative and are smart.
Hell yes, you're clearly passionate about it. You shouldn't let any social taboos or stereotypes get in your way... all the people that laugh at you will be kicking themselves when you prove just how skilled you are at it.
Seriously, you sound like a really driven young woman and if you didn't do it you'd probably regret it for the rest of your life.
What's the alternative? A boring job you have no interest in?
I say live the dream.
Women are sexy as hell in a pilot's uniform. Go for it.
Go for it? As a fellow Texan, I support you :clint:
Just do it and don't take any bullshit either. If it's any encouragement, people laugh at me for wanting to fly too and I'm male.
But I'll show em, I'm planning on building my own plane this summer from scratch.
I hope you're not seriously considering letting somebody else's opinion deter you from reaching for what you want. Does it matter what your dad says, what his friends say, or what we say? Woman, get your head out of your ass. If you want to do this, then do it! Nothing should be able to keep you from your goal, especially something as stupidly irrelevant as opinions. Fuck opinions. I wouldn't have accomplished half the things I've done in my life if I were concerned with people's opinions.
If you want to fly, then get your ass out there and do it. If you need help or advice in regards to aviation- shoot it my way. I can most likely help, or at the very least, find someone who can. Good luck.
Well, you guys... The mostly positive responses are encouraging. When I scrape the money together, I'll go for it. I guess if I can't take shit from the instructors I shouldn't be flying a plane (because I'll have to take more shit from my plane than most people would imagine). Thanks.
Do it, fuck your family and friends, kick reason to the curb and you're invincible.
Don't join the military expecting to fly though unless you have a college degree. Even with a BA you might not even make it because you are a woman. Don't trying to be sexist but it is really difficult for women to fly aircraft.
I feel like flying as a commercial airline pilot wouldn't be very fun.
And if you didn't like your co-pilot life would suck.
get pilot license then fly 2 Asm's house to have sex with him
I heard you need at least around 3 Exams to get the CPL/IR.
My sister is now going for a Pilot License so i see no problem with you.
Go for it.
Fuck people
Do whatever you want
It's discouraged. If you travel often by air, you'll notice that most, if not all, of the pilots have been male.
Flight instructors will very often make fun of girls going for lessons and that's... well, it hurts.
If that sort of thing hurts you then I would have to suggest not going forward with this. There are women out there that race cars, race bikes, fly planes, etc..., but those women never bothered with what other people thought.

Coming from the airline industry, it's much easier to get a job as a pilot if you're a girl because of diversity requirements.

I bet you've heard about it.
Go for it.
Ignore the sexist remarks and let your performance speak for its self. Everything that may prevent you from being a pilot can be overcome, but it requires a lot of determination, and in your case it seems, maybe a little more determination.
good luck!
Join the airforce. The RAF if youre a brit, they got it good.
Actually I'd rather have women in my cockpit
Fly that tight little vagina over to my crib.
Actually I'd rather have women in my cockpit
Funny.
Im surprised no ones made a joke about joining the mile high club yet.. but on a more serious note...
Yeah I'd go for it. And if you can't find a job as a pilot, sue them for discrimination =D (i want free plane rides)
Fly that tight little vagina over to my crib.
Your crib? Oh yeah, because you are an infant.

My avatar sucks ass.
I just can't be bothered to change it.
I'd say go for it, it's great to work in something you have a real interest in.
I'd love to become a pilot, only problem is, I'm not so great with heights. :tinfoil:
I'm a pilot. Uhh I don't see the problem at all? I live in fairly conservative VA and probably 30% of the pilots out here are girls. That's not because it's discouraged, it's just because girls usually have no interest in it. I don't see where you're coming from if you think being a pilot is a male career. Nobody gives a shit in the VA
Yeah man, go for it. Follow a dream.
I'd like to become a commercial pilot; they have a nice juicy paycheck. On the other hand it's very difficult for women to become commercial pilots.
Pilots get paid shit and work like a dog, especially when starting. Gender has shit to do with how hard it is to become a pilot, everyone has it rough in that profession.

Keep in mind you are paying them, they aren't doing you a favor, if you don't like it tell em to fuck off and find another. I made the mistake of staying with someone who wasn't a very good teacher, now I've gotta go through the trouble of swapping instructors and possibly losing 11 hours of instruction(doubt that'l happen though).
