The Tale of Camp Caldwell - For those of you still sending me PMs

Wow, that's rather sad IMO.
I'd hate having to go to fight for my country.
I know that sounds really bad of me but I'm just not a violent person and in general I think war is pointless.
But thankfully you came out of it alive, and no serious damage was done to you.
I have the utmost respect for you.
Not really, I don't have that many veterans around my. My Grandfather served for the Nazis and the Husband of my Grannies sister served on the iron curtain and shot 1 guy in the leg. That's all.
And no, I have no respect. For what?
My only respect goes for how well he handled his wounds.
Respect for that many veterans doesn't want to answer that question and doesn't take it that lightly as you try to describe.
Combat
Engineering
Logistics & Support
Intelligence, IT & Comms
HR & Finance
Medical
Music & Ceremonial
Just searched on google. That are some job groups.
Oh and what is this Engineering
Logistics & Support
Intelligence, IT & Comms
HR & Finance
Medical
Music & Ceremonial
used for in the very end?
To support the army.
Edit:
Whatever dude, that is your opinion and this is mine. We won't be able to change each others opinions. But just so you understand. Veterans does usually not appreciate questions about death and question that have with emotions to do.
Sure you can ask if you want, but I would rather not.
Then it's up to the veteran to answer.
Just because he's supposed to kill people in the army doesn't make it any less shocking when it happens.
Kiluah, in all of those, you don't actually have to pull a trigger and watch someone die because of it.

I respect your opinion, but don't get pissed over my opinion.
True because I didn't voluntarily sign some contract that forces me to do it in the end.
Also nice work Swebonny avoiding the real answer.
"To support the army" bwahahaha, yea sure the army is just there to support itself.
Armies kill people.
People who join the army help to kill people, directly or indirectly. The sign contracts. They get money.
They may protect their homeland but if you ask me, a voluntary-helper that builds schools or teaches kids in regions where this is normally not available does more to protect the country than a soldier.

No, sorry If I sounded rude. But it just reminded me of how upset my grandpa got when talking about WW2 and then I asked him "How many did you kill" etc... He got really really upset. I was 13-14 I think. (immigrated to sweden)
Thanks for sharing this with us, Linelor. Over here, we don't get many chances to hear personal stories from the war.
I don't want to pry or anything, so I'm sorry if this is too personal, but what keeps going around in my head is:
What do you feel in an actual combat situation... I mean, is there a lot of aggression or do people just kind of do what has to be done... and does it constantly scare the shit out of you when you're under fire, or does all the adrenaline drown out such feelings until later?
With most extreme experiences, the realization usually strikes only when everything is over already, but since as a soldier in a war zone you get into these situations more often, I would expect it to be a bit different in the long run.

In this case we are not talking about indirectly killing someone. We are talking about when you are standing face to face with another man and you killing him.

Well well. And this person signed up for that job.
OP...is truly a respectable man.
Interesting to read. I hope they will never draft me anywhere.

I understand.
If you two want to argue take it to PMs. This isn't the place.
I'm sorry you had to experience this dude, war is ugly shit. I'm glad you made it through, you are one of the cooler people on this forum IMO.
Thanks for serving.
Also, how is your vision with only one eye?
I feel sorry for portman and brady :(

Fine. The only problem it really presented (I've always been quick to learn and adapt though life) was that I was right handed and I basically had to flip everything around and be left handed when shooting and the like. I got used to it pretty quick though and my marksmanship is as good as ever.
I scored 39 on the marksmanship exam by the way. I sneezed and it kind of fucked up my vision so I only nicked the target and it didn't count.
Also, you guys don't have to argue and defend me and what not. I don't care what people think of me, and if I did I probably would have collapsed a long time ago. There's this whole idea that being a veteran makes people like you and respect you and what not, and that might be true for WWII vets and what not, but more often I hear insults and comments where, in my opinion, people take out their hatred of the government and its actions on the soldiers who are basically just doing their job.
If I don't like a question I just won't reply to it. I won't even comment and it will be like it didn't even exist in the thread.

Damn, nothing like a true story about some of the shit that goes down in Iraq. I respect you sir, I don't respect many people, but you deserve it. I wish I had the balls to go out and do something like this.
I'd post more pictures but I'm looking through them to make sure:
1. I don't show people's faces.
2. It's "safe to post" in my opinion.
3. It's not graphic.
I added one to the OP, might put some more up later.
do you wear an eyepatch
That would be awesome. The chicks would be all over him
For some reason this got me pumped to join the army.

How old are you?, though it's still your job, get over it.
I think you're the one that isn't grown up. Considering you say that stuff and honestly believe it's the truth. Killing someone leaves a mark on your soul, even if you're a solider. No offense, just saying.
Edit:
Oh shit, tripple post. sorry :v
This may sound weird but can you take a picture of your right eye? Or can you not open it?
What happened to your friend who got injured?
What does it feel like to be in a situation like that?

I have a picture of my and my oldest from Halloween where you can see my eye, I'll find it in a minute.
He's fine, just lost his arm.
It sucks to say the least.

There. She hates pictures. :V
In the bayonet thread, you mentioned something about you having a knife saved you once or twice. Care to tell us that story? :v:

I thought your eye would be a lot worse than that. It definetely sucks that you can't see out of it though. I just want you to know that I respect the hell out of you.

Well the piece went in on the inside by my nose and hit the stem or whatever which basically killed it but the eye is still alive.
If you're gona quote remove the pictures by the way, just helps to reduce the page stretching.
I highly respect you for all you've done. It's good to see someone that deserves respect on facepunch.
My cousin was in the 10th mountain division.
as far as i know, he hasn't encountered anything as bad as this; but he still won't talk about it.
