By the time I have kids, public education will finally get a real reform. We are apparently the final generation of mortal humans, after all- but either way, thank you for the tip. I'll take it into consideration. Where do you live specifically that you claim is paradise? Might want to update my options. Some of the best testimonies I've come across come from Palm Beach area, maybe I'll have to settle for that instead if my other choices don't work out.
I really do suggest Palm Beach Gardens. 5 years ago I used to stay with my grandparents all the time, the neighbors were old retired people who were very kind and sweethearted, that might have change but the city still gets good reviews.
I can't speak for the entire state, but here in Palm Beach and the surrounding districts the drivers are fucking terrible. I mean fucking terrible too. Other than that the weather is hot as satan's scrotum. Now that I get down to it I really can't name a lot of reasons not to live here. On the other hand, I can name a grand total of zero reasons to live here. Heck, I'll switch places with you. God I would love to see snow. Never have.
Yeah, I remember it being a lot more humid than hot when I visited. I can do weather fine. I only ever really dislike the cold up here because of all the bullshit snow that literally keeps me stuck at home sometimes on days off, and during 'heat wave' days down there I felt rather unaffected.
It's not so different. It's so hot I never wanted to go outside and play as a kid. I still hardly go outside. That's probably why I'm on Facepunch so much.

Every year they are so excited to see the snow fall. :) Snow is fun, if you can actually do something with it. I make it out to be such a shitty thing but it can be lots of fun. First snowman is best snowman.
our governor is a fucking retard i'm not even kidding he is the worst scumbag ever also it's cold and hot here at least it is in Tallahassee. Anyways remember that the further north in Florida you go the more south you get.
I was born and raised in Florida, and the time I've spent in the EU (~1 yr) is the longest I've been away from it. You can expect a lot (more) of: Rocket launches* Old people Ground to cloud lightning (thunder storms) Old people who think they are more important than you Black people and wannabe beiber/ rappers Crap education outside of Catholic/private schools Cubans/latinos who don't speak english and do not want to who also discriminate against natives Rain/flooding from hurricanes during summer Crime Palm Trees Rednecks (but it's not like bible belt rednecks, but there is a few of those too) Heat Air conditioning Expect less/little of: Tornados decent jobs/Money (no factories) Snow nice people good driving Fire places/two story homes Enjoy the FCAT, the best example of NCLB and why schools suck (you can't drive until you've passed it)
Expect lots of bad drivers in the more Hispanic parts of the state. Trust me on that. I've tried driving in Puerto Rico. Big Mistake, red lights are a joke and if you even hesitate for a second when the light turns green everyone goes into road rage mode and starts honking their horn at you. The drivers obviously aren't as bad as that in the state but there are some who still drive like that because they moved (or are visiting) the state. Keep in mind that most of this is in Puerto Rico where I refuse to drive anymore when I visit. The drivers aren't so bad in Florida it's just those very few people that still think they're following road rules from Latin America.
I know quite a bit of Spanish and used to speak it semi-fluently. Love latin culture. I still know enough to carry me along in a conversation I think. I can listen good, but I speak a bit slow. [editline]5th December 2011[/editline] Probably should've put that in the OP actually. Seems like a really mixed bag on drivers but I guess it's like that everywhere. It can never just be, "okay," huh? :p
Kung Fu Jew, I am glad you decided to more to Florida. I currently live in Brevard county which is better known as the space coast. I was born in Palm Bay and currently live in Melbourne. I just moved back from a 2 year stint in Central Massachusetts. It is absolutely easier to live here, but there are a few gripes I have. Housing Housing down here is much more diverse than up north. There are lots and lots of beautiful subdivisions if you buy a house. There are shitloads more condominiums you can rent from someone since most old people that live here either own a condo or rent one when they are up north for the summer. Rent is MUCH cheaper down here than it is up there. In Massachusetts you couldn't find a decent 2 bedroom apartment on the third floor for less than $1000 that wasn't 300 sq. ft. Seriously, fuck. I lived on the second floor of an old Victorian and paid $1225 for a 1.5b/2bath apartment in a fairly decent town. I come down to Florida and you can rent a brand new fucking house for under $800. http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/apa/2733525519.html Shit is so cheap down here because in the early 00's home builders were literally finger fucking the land and building thousands upon thousands of new homes every year. When the stock market went for broke the past few years, home builders COULD NOT sell anything so you have these gigantic 500+ home communities with 4 homes built in them with the rest being empty lots. It's crazy shit but one of the reasons housing is so cheap down here. I currently live in this nice little condo community in a 2 bedroom 1 bath condo on the ground floor. It's got new carpets, new doors, appliances in unit, and a fairly decent kitchen for my needs. The lawn is done by the association every Thursday and every few weeks they hire guys to power wash the outside of the buildings. The association has a deal with the local cable company, Brighthouse, and I only pay $67 for High Def TV and mid tier internet. The association pays for my water but I have to pick up the electric tab. I have my own parking space and access to a GORGEOUS swimming pool that is warmer than bath water in the summer. Seriously, I once had to get out because it was making me overheat. The ladies in the place are mostly old, but who gives a fuck it's good living. I pay $600/month for what I assume to be 1000 sq.ft. Check out some other shit here: http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/search/apa?query=&srchType=A&minAsk=100&maxAsk=1000&bedrooms=1&hasPic=1 Jesus I didn't think I would write this much but I guess I have alot to say. Expenses Groceries are about the same as up there. Gas is usually a few cents cheaper here. Car insurance is higher for whatever reason (I paid $130 in MA and the lowest quote was $175 here). The best thing about FL is that you don't have to buy FUCKING OIL. FUCK OIL AND EVERYTHING ABOUT ITS PRICE. I would have to buy a metric shit ton of oil spending like $2000 a year on it. Fuck. The highest bill you will have here is the electric bill in the summer. Something like $60-$200 month in the summer if you full blast your A/C like I do. Water is more expensive but I don't give a fuck because my condo association pays it for me! :D (P.S. FPL (or Florida Power and Light) loves to take deposits from new customers. They check your credit score and jack up the deposit. Mine was $224 and I have relatively new credit so it isn't that good. If I enrolled in automatic bill pay it would only be $105 which is a fantastic way to cut my moving expenses but fuck if I forget to do it and miss the deadline. FUCK.) The area Let's face it, Florida isn't that great. Sure there's Disney and shit but that's in Orlando and fuck driving to Orlando. I live a bunch of miles from Kennedy Space Center (hence the name, "The Space Coast"), and I LOVED watching the Shuttle launches from my back yard. Too bad the fuckers in D.C decided to fuck NASA over. Because of NASA, there are a shit ton of tech jobs in the area. NASA, Lockheed Martin, Harris Corp., Intersil, etc. all have thousands of private sector jobs here. Before the economy hit the shitter they would only do government contracts, but they have recently started opening commercial divisions as a failsafe from the dwindling economy. I have to mention transportation briefly. Alot of Florida towns and cities have good roads. I am just fascinated by them. Why? I don't know. All the main roads here are 4 lane, grass median divided roads. If they don't have a grass median they have a fifth lane in the middle just for turning. Fuck yeah. They are fantastically maintained because it doesn't snow here so the plows don't fuck them up every winter. Because there are no plows they can also use the cateye reflectors so you can actually see where you are driving at night. Melbourne The only cool thing to do in Melbourne is to go to the 1 mall we have here, and then it isn't really that great (mostly because it is only 1 floor and doesn't have fucking escalators to ride). If you were to rate it on a 'hipster' scale it DOES NOT have an Apple store in it. In fact the closest Apple store is in Orlando thank god. The most prominent main road is Wickham road. It runs North/South from Viera to Palm Bay. I-95 also passes through Melbourne and has something like 3 or 4 exits or something. Melbourne/Palm Bay http://localhostr.com/file/FFrNlpx/mbpalm.png Palm Bay Palm Bay is like housing heaven. This place has more subdivisions (some failed) than Melbourne. I used to live here (and was born here) and it isn't very exciting. There's maybe 3 or 4 clubs in Melbourne. There are none here worth mentioning. There are 2 Wal-Marts in Palm Bay. One is fairly new from 2009. It is gigantic. Other shit If you move just rent a U-Haul trailer. They're like $200 and easy to pull. Fair note the small ones jump around ALOT so put expensive/breakable stuff like a computer in your trunk. There's a place you can turn it in right down the road. If I had to name one thing I didn't like about this place it would be... I can't really think of anything. Seriously, I spent about 5 minutes sitting here thinking and couldn't think of anything worth mentioning. Maybe I will think of something... So that's all I have to say off my mind. Please ask me any questions you may have and if you are really looking to come down here I can help you out if you decide to come into my area.
Just saw there was a new post. I wish I could read this now because I'm ecstatic to hear info about Florida but I have to bolt, so I'll read this on my phone when I'm out tomorrow. Thanks for the lengthy informational post. I checked the links and the context you provided quick and this looks like some juicy stuff I'll be glad to hear about. Thanks again!
Hey brah. I can speak for the need for the beach, trust me, it's rather nice when not populated by tourists. I'm living in the Pinellas County Area, St. Petersburg to be exact. If you would take the suggestion, St. Petersburg is an absolutely fine place to be living. You're ALWAYS close to the beach, Downtown is pretty great, and plus, there's me. That's a big bonus. If by some chance you do end up in St. Pete, shoot me a message, we can meet at a coffee shop downtown.
I live in Central Florida, it is quite nice here. The drivers suck, summers are hot and there is a bit of crime in orlando and other shit. But the beaches are really nice, specifically Daytona and New Smyrna.

My dad works in Carol City, which is a terrible city in Miami. Suffers from crime. And his dealership has never been robbed, only time was a car being stolen off the lot. And old people are nice, better then the young asshole teenagers who think they are gangsta. And we have lots of 2 story homes in my neighborhood. Very nice place if you ask me.
That would be quite pointless, because the thermal energy it transfers from the air inside it will immediately be transferred to the radiator on the back, back into the room (so you'd need to place your refrigerator in the doorstep/window or something like that). On top of that, the work needed to transfer this heat energy creates extra heat. In short: you'll raise the temperature even more...
Okay but I lived in Florida and you're in Germany. Nard
Pensacola isn't too bad. Late Fall, winter, and early spring the weathers awesome here. Come summer though it gets insanely humid out, with temperatures above 88 F on average. The nice thing about living in pcola is the awesome beaches and being so close to mobile and panama city. New Orleans is only a 3 hour drive too, I love going there.
I'm down in Pasco county, I love the weather here, but that's just me. The Rays have a sweet ass baseball stadium too. :v:
I live in Florida, specifically the Seminole/Largo area in Pinellas County, and it ain't so bad.
I'm all the way down in the Keys, ain't that bad.
Move to the central west coast (Tampa Bay area). Miami is full of fresh-off-the-boat Cubans and a degenerate nightlife; Jax is...well, Jax. You know. Orlando is a giant tourist attraction. The Tampa Bay area has some of the best beaches in the world, bar none. And I've been to Hawaii and all over the Caribbean. Very few things beat Honeymoon Island at sunset or Clearwater Beach at night. Just be creative when looking for things to do. My friends and I recently went to Philippe Park in the dead of night; it's a big park, but in a wealthy neighborhood, so there were zero patrols and pretty much no risk of stalking do-badders. Seeing the stars over the water was breathtaking, and being in the swampy-ass Florida woods is creepy as shit and pitch fucking black. Good fun with females aboard. And there is, of course, airsoft and paintball all over the place, or actual firearms if that's your things. Just watch out for bad drivers. They're everywhere.
Florida is alright, lived here 27 years of my life (all of them) and all I gotta say is.... avoid pasco, drugies, theifs, psychos and anything else in between seems to tightly dot the landscape here. I know you said your not concerned with that stuff, but I say it as a warning if you value your sanity and possessions.
