Glad to hear that you guys got out alive, honestly I hate hearing about fatal car accidents because I lost a good friend in 4th grade when the SUV he was in rolled over and he got ejected out the sun roof and died from decapitation. I always told him to wear a seat belt because he never did and his parents were so careless about it. I was raised to always wear my seat belt and I have been lucky not to be involved in any serious rollover accidents, but the day it does happen even if I die you will be damn sure that I died wearing a seat belt.
Decapitation by sun roof? Holy shit, the worst I heard was that a toddler suffocated to death when her neck was trapped by the sunroof, but decapitation...how is it possible?
Glad to hear that everyone made it out relatively okay.
Mazdas are tough little bastards.

Jesus that wound. Why the heck was she going that fast?
My mother is recovering nicely. She's getting lots of rest and can still walk, which is great. My friend was unharmed, so he's back to normal now, albeit scared to drive.
Thank goodness. That's relieving...
about 4 times after catching a turn a little too wide going 85-90 mph.
I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but it's hard to feel bad for you or your mom if she's driving like a crazy bitch and you did absolutely nothing about it to make her slow down. 90 mph is insane driving under pretty much any circumstance and there was no excuse for going that fast. Your friend could have been killed and the flying car could have easily killed a bunch of other people. And doing that in a compact car? It just adds to the insanity. I see people like her up and down IH-35 almost monthly, idiots going 90-100 on the freeway and end up killing themselves and other people because they were driving like idiots.
My dog died in a car accident, it must be horrible if it's family. Also, it must be shocking for the other person too.
Always wear your seatbelts, guys. My mom always told me to, and I always pressure others to do so.
I won't even start the car if someone won't wear their seatbelt.
Why the heck was she going that fast?
People like to go fast. It's stupid but fun. And there's really no problem with going fast so long as you're extremely careful about it. Don't do it in a place where you're going to endanger other cars especially. And no matter how much you want to show off NEVER do anything with other people in the car that you're not 110% confident you can pull off safely. I've only had two screw ups myself. Only one was from speeding and that was bad luck. It was a gravel road (out in the middle of nowhere in Idaho) which I felt confident driving that speed on but the county literally just came in that morning to grade the road (might be spelled wrong but that's where they pack down the loose gravel. It leaves a very loose sheet of gravel on top of the road surface that's like ice.) I took a corner at 60mph which was a little faster than I normally would and lost traction and over corrected. I flew off a 6-8 foot embankment and somehow managed to miss every tree in the area. Didn't get hurt or even damage my car but shook me up fairly badly. The other was driving to work one day. I was changing lanes and hit a patch of black ice at about 45mph. (Not above the speed limit by the way.) Next thing I knew I was facing the cars behind me trying not to shit myself and get my car under control. That one miraculously turned out alright too despite there being two or three cars fairly close behind me.
I can't even begin to emphasise how goddamn important it is to wear your seatbelt. It's literally the easiest thing to do that will vastly improve your chances of walking away from a crash. Wear your seatbelts, guys. And make sure your friends and family do too.
My worst accident was some asshole in a SUV going 30mph in a parking lot smashed into the side of my car at an angle and basically tore off the front.
I have not been in a car crash, I've been witness first hand to one or two but I have lost a brother to a car accident. You're extremely lucky especially since it rolled because normal seatbelts can't hold and protect you from all angles. You're also lucky you had a somewhat modern car with good crumple zones. Its nice that you're all okay seeing how major that crash is.
I was just about to say that I'm lucky that neither I or any of my relatives have been in a serious accident. Then I remembered that last year my dad's cousin's son died in a car accident. His car rolled over and he died on the spot. He seemed like a great guy. I never got to meet him in person. Seatbelts really are lifesavers., sadly they won't always be enough. Good thing that you guys are ok. Car accidents can be really nasty and even though, like I said earlier, I never met him in person, our family is still one person less now and it sucks.
I've been in two, one I was driving in snow and the guy in front of me pulled to the side, but I went into him, totalled my vehicle. The second was not to long ago, some guy T boned one of our fire trucks going like 50
OP, I'm glad you're in one piece and everyone's alive. However, I want to emphasise some things you already provided with yet another example, if you don't mind. 8 years ago my girlfriend was fatally injured in a car crush. Pitch-black night, shitty road, 120km/h - to a dead stop in a roadside ditch. Of four people in that car, only one person was wearing a seatbelt, one of rear passengers, and his skull was crushed by some metal piece of something that was stored in a place under the rear window. Other rear passenger got merged with front passenger's seat. The driver was half buried in the panel where wheel is supposed to be (old piece of junk, no airbags) to the point flesh was fused with plastic and metal parts. My girlfriend, front passenger, was ejected through the wind shield and got wrapped around a tree. The lone road police patrol witnessed the whole thing and medical services were called immediately. She suffered through the night, and died in the hospital in the early morning. I was in a second car that moved out the same way a few hours after them, so we were quite some distance away. We'd pass the wreckage if policeman didn't stop us to ask for some immediate help. That's where details come from. Guys, seatbelts are really fucking important. So is not driving like a maniac. And healthy amount of self-preservation and not being fucking idiot. No amount of seatbelts or airbags will save your life if you get in a car with a raving lunatic you know can in fact be on drugs.

There are no public roads in the US that permits 85-90, and even if it did, you take greater care with passengers in the car.

The desert roads out here in the west US go up to 85 MPH speed limits, because rarely anyone drives out here. I'll admit she was going a bit too fast for comfort, but it was only 5-10 over the limit, which is a common occurrence. People were still passing us up on that road using the passing lane, hell, I even saw a guy going at LEAST 110 passing us when we were out.
There are no public roads in the US that permits 85-90, and even if it did, you take greater care with passengers in the car.
I don't know the speed limits of most states (I'm only familiar with Washington, California, Idaho, and Oregon) but I otherwise agree. If there's anyone else around you could endanger, whether it be pedestrians, other drivers, or passengers in your own vehicle, that is when you need to be by far the most cautious.
I had an accident where I rolled 4 times as well. The worst I ended up with was a seatbelt burn that hurt for weeks. Glad to not be stupid.
I remember that i was in a rollover crash long ago, my father was driving, he took a turn too fast and sliped down a hill, i had nothing but my mother had back problem for a long time.
Almost every single fatal accident here usually involves someone getting ejected from the vehicle. Its crazy that so many people don't wear seatbelts when the evidence that you should is right fucking there. Its not even a "mah freedumbs" thing, its just common sense.
I know someone that crashed at 140 kph and got ejected and survived, apparently he would have died if he was still in the car.
I know someone that crashed at 140 kph and got ejected and survived, apparently he would have died if he was still in the car.
For every person like that, there are 10 others who would have survived had they worn their seatbelts.
I know someone that crashed at 140 kph and got ejected and survived, apparently he would have died if he was still in the car.
Those sorts of accidents do happen, but at the same time, they are unbelievably rare and equivalent to winning the lottery. Hardly a case against wearing seatbelts though, considering more often than not, they do save lives.
The first thing I do before I even drive is put the seatbelt on, only takes a second to put on and feels comfortable and not like an annoyance Those bastards will save your life, hope you and your family make a full recovery OP!

Just last night we did a drill dealing with air bags and the elevation of car wrecks to extract victims delicately. DON'T count on rescue being fast or painless, because it is very difficult.
Just got into a wreck an hour ago. I was going towards an intersection and my road was a no-stop road but the other road was, and someone ran the stop sign and I managed to t-bone them. It didn't help that the road was wet and my brakes are fucking shit. My car was extremely totaled, but the other car was fine because it was an old mercedes-benz. I'm about to go to the doctor now because I think I might have a concussion (didn't know at the time when the ambulance came) [editline]3rd June 2014[/editline] My dad's trying to get things sorted with the health insurance because the health insurance system here fucking sucks my balls [editline]3rd June 2014[/editline] Another thing that's super surreal is that yesterday I was talking with my friend about car wrecks.
fuck people that run red lights/stop signs
