That's great to hear.
I have a friend who just got back from a year in (southern) Italy. She was talking about how careless so many people are about seat bealts. I just can't wrap my head around why they wouldn't (regardless of whether it's legally required or not) wear a seat belt. Like, she would put on on and they'd be like "wtf are you doing, we're only going 20-30mins away".

Some people don't even realize that driving 5 minutes to your local supermarket could kill you. That's what bugs me about it. I have a friend who likes to max out her speedometer if the speed limit is 55 MPH or over. She drove quite erratically and recklessly before I got in my crash. Since then she's been good about driving safely. I make sure that everyone does now that I still have my life to walk away with.
It was in the middle of the desert and we caught some gravel off to the right side of the road, and that shit is like black ice. We over-corrected like once or twice before we caught the front passenger tire and started tipping. After that is kind of a blur.

Exactly. The smell was what woke me up, and shit was in slow mo. The realization of reality is also quite a hard hitting one. Shock does some crazy stuff.
Gravel can be bad for lack of traction, but not as bad as sand is with doing the opposite. Where I live, there's sand on the sides of pretty much all the highway and all the roads south of it. And dumb tourists look at scenery and go off the side of the road all the time. The worst thing to do is to try and quickly correct it because the tire just digs in, and the car rolls. They do it all the time
Driving fast always bugs me. I mean, I have a small Japanese car so going fast can be a bit challenging at times but when I have to drive my Dad's massive Honda truck for whatever reason that puts me on edge. Going 10mph over the limit driving that thing just gets me on edge.

This probably has to do with your view of the road. Trucks have you sitting up higher than a car. This difference in position makes it feel like you're going a lot faster than you are when sitting lower to the ground.
Been up all night with post traumatic stress. The shock is wearing off so my arm is starting to get back into the groove of being an actual limb.
It sucks because I have to keep myself pre-occupied. When I lay down to sleep all I think about is that night. It's annoying because it's all I think about. I'm currently at a friends house for E3 week (the friend involved in the crash), so maybe I'm just upset cause I'm away from family.
where was this if i may asking
where was this if i may asking
Between Searchlight, Nevada and Needles, California. Veterans Memorial Hwy just before the train tracks out near the border. Tried to find some news articles but I guess no one covered the crash...
oh it kinda looks like az then again anything in the south west looks like the same.
I rarely travel by car and I don't want a car because of shit like this.

Train for medium distances, plane for long distances, and commuter buses/metro/trams for short distances.
Or get to live in a bike-friendly city in the netherlands or w.e. , just walk...
I've been In one very ugly accident when I was about 5/yo and another mild but speedy one about 13y/o. Fuck cars.
i can't drive due to ptsd long time ago
If I had that wound, I would become unconscious just by looking at it. Wow.
But this will be a really cool scar someday. Seriously.
The worst I've gotten in was a fender bender. I got a dent in my truck that my dad fixed with a piece of wood and a hammer, and the other vehicle involved got its rear left fender torn off.
I always wear a seatbelt, and I don't move the vehicle until everyone has buckled. If I am pulling to a stop and someone begins to unbuckle before I have brought the vehicle to a complete stop, I will yell "SEATBELT CHECK!!!" and stomp on the brakes. I do not tolerate people being unbuckled in a moving vehicle.

Well, I would have if it'd only been me in the wreck. But I was way too worried about my mother and friend to give a shit about my arm. Once I was sure everyone was okay and I was able to focus on myself, the pain came very close to knocking me out.
I got my surgery done yesterday to debride my arm. I haven't seen it yet, but my family saw pics and they say it looks a lot better than it did when I had all the dying skin on my arm. I'll post a pic (tagged obv) of my arm tomorrow when I get redressed.
Holy shit 90mph on a turn?
Dude be careful. Not even I am crazy enough to do that, and I drive a car with no oil, no cooling liquid, shoddy brakes, half-full front tyres and not that much thread on the ones in the back.

No one in my family is ever going to go above the limit again I can guarantee you that haha.
Sorry for the necro-bump everyone! But wanted to give an update a few months later.
So here's my gnarly battle scar as it sits now:

Had my debridement/graft done in July, and lost my grandmother shortly after due to ovarian cancer. This summer was a really tough one for me, but I'm stronger for coming out of it.
A week or two ago, my car was hit while I was working at Target. I've made more calls to insurance companies the last few months than some people in their 40's...
Doing good now! Don't have to wear wraps anymore, and my physical therapy should start in the next few weeks.
Sorry to hear about your grandmother, but it's good to hear that you're doing well yourself.

Thanks man. I'm just glad she's not in pain anymore. I can't imagine what she went through. She passed surrounded by her family, and she went peacefully. Couldn't ask for more than that I guess.
Good to hear back from you dude, hope everything eventually gets better for you
bumping this thread because a really bad accident just occurred outside my house

basically a guy tried to corner through a three way intersection and lost control and crashed into a tree. dude went to the hospital with life threatening injuries, no one else in the car.
they had to get two hydraulic jaws and tear away the roof and everything to get the guy out.
I was also one of the first few people to go outside and you could hear him moaning and shit. I caught a glimpse of him as he was put into the ambulance and there was something sticking out of his chest.
don't do stupid shit while driving
jesus on ice
that wound is fucking brutal. I wouldn't be crying because of the pain, I'd be crying because half of my arm is ripped open
This seems like a fitting thread, is it true that if all someones muscles are relaxed that your less likely to get hurt in an accident?
Yes. I think statistics show that people who get knocked out early or are black-out drunk tend to have less fractures.
I don't know about bruises etc though, I assume those may actually be more common if you're flailing about during a car crash.
