as someone who played A LOT of tf2 years ago and trying overwatch in the beta it was pretty underwhelming.
Unless you're level 25+ you've never really played Overwatch properly. The game is COMPLETELY different at higher levels The steamrolling people above have described disappears, both teams are actually competent and fights get really fucking intense.
as someone who played A LOT of tf2 years ago and trying overwatch in the beta it was pretty underwhelming.
Overwatch is in it's infancy while TF2 passed its peak long ago, give it a chance.
So he outright says its his personal opinion and that he's not bashing the game for being a bad game but he makes a clickbait title like that? "It's popular because it's Blizzard" Both I and many other people aren't anywhere near the Blizzard fanwagon and I loved every minute of the beta. The game is so well received at least from my perspective because it's very well made. Not all games have to be super inventive and 100% original and this is a primary example it takes the best elements of current trends and solidifies them.
Same. I'm not into Blizzard by any means and I was ready to let this game pass me by. But I saw the beta was open and I meant to get around to playing it, which I did the last few days of the beta. After a few matches I preordered, it was that good.
It sounds like he doesn't like it because it lacks character progression. "It's fun for 2 matches and then I feel nothing", and looking at his playlist he has made a lot of videos on shooters with fleshed out progression systems.
Well that's the dumbest fucking thing ever. Like, I'd prefer to master a complex and well designed hero than unlock some slightly better weapons without actually improving as a player.
Seems like he doesn't like Doom much either.
Sounds like he's the kind of person to always be on the opposite side of ideas. Anyway, overwatch is overhyped to fuck and back. It obviously isn't bad, I can see its a good game even without playing it, but its far from perfect.
Of course it's overated. CHEERS LUV THE CAVALRY'S HERE you fucking blizzard idiots that's not how you use "cheers".
I feel like he does opposite opinions to attract views

I got into the open beta because it was free but I hadn't been following the game one bit and had zero expectations. Turned out that it was very enjoyable and that I still wanted to play more of the game after the beta period ended. Obviously the game is selling better than if it was made by some no-name studio without marketing but that doesn't make it a bad game.
I don't think its dumb, I get why people like the grind. You get a distinct feeling of accomplishment by unlocking something. It's like farmville or cookie clicker, some people find stuff like that really satisfying.
I find it hard to argue that a Skinner Box is a good video game though, I'm not totally above it but if you're going to make a Skinner Box at least make the act of pressing the button well designed, look at the Witcher 3 or any Diablo game, games which are games at heart but aren't totally above rewarding the player with loot and unlocks. Judging by this guy's vid on Doom I'd say to him games are just extremely overdesigned Skinner Boxes and when they don't reward him with a little treat after he mindlessly spams a button he gets a little stroppy. :unimpressed:
Overwatch is a fun game but imo it would be infinitely better if it didnt have ults. That would mean that the heroes would be designed very differently, to the point that some would not be recognizable, but still - I dont like the idea of pressing one button after a bar fills up to completely alter the state of an entire fight.
I feel like he does opposite opinions to attract views
This, verging on troll level but i think he convinces himself that he doesn't like it
It's meant to be a simple and fun casual game that you play for a short while.
I'd like overwatch a lot more if they did something about the 20 tick servers already
I'd like it a lot more if they had dedicated servers and a server picker
It's meant to be a simple and fun casual game that you play for a short while.
Or a strategic and competitive one that you can easily put hundreds or even thousands of hours into, a la TF2.
Not gonna give views for this. I'll attest however that the newest Blizzard game I played prior to OW was Starcraft 1, so no brand loyalty from me. Most overhyped games tend to be 'pretty good' instead of groundbreaking amazing you might be tempted to believe. I went into OW with the expectation that it'd be simply pretty good also, but instead turns out it's more a mixture of incredible fun and infuriation, but not so much something in between. I think the hype and buzz around the game is not undeserved, but also the game deserves harsh critique for its low points. This video from what I can tell is not a critique as much as "I don't like it so you shouldn't either".
i don't like overwatch, i feel its visual style is too cartoony
Says the person with 812 hours in TF2???
Views = $$$
"The game is just not satisfying, I don't know why" Doesn't matter whether you like or dislike a game when you say this, you shouldn't be making a video about your opinion when you can't tell why you have that opinion. [editline]6th June 2016[/editline]
I don't like when people say this, just seems like a cheap way to ignore criticism.
In this case it's fair because he actually has no criticism. He actually says "I don't think this is a bad game" and "I don't know why [I don't find the game satisfying]" so he clearly doesn't have a point that he wants people to understand.
I thought Overwatch would be solid and I found out was it great. The time from booting up the game to getting into a match is insane. It takes me seconds to connect to servers and get past loading screens. The game runs well and looks very interesting - the environments are varied and full of detail. They went to the effort of making spawns (represented by dropships and crawlers and stuff like that) with destructible objects and things like footballs and basket balls you can screw around with before a match starts. Its extremely technically impresssive in that regard for me. In terms of gameplay, there's a class for people who have great aim and terrible aim, and I find teamwork is more encouraged than in any other online FPS I've played. A big deal is made out of your team composition with the 30 minute pre-match lineup at the start. In TF2, once in a blue moon you'll see a competent medic on your team who knows when to use an Uber, but in Overwatch in every other match you'll have a Rheinhart on your team who makes it his job to make sure he has his big shield up so the rest of the team can lay down fire.
already? theres no way blizzard is going to upgrade to 60 tick. your only hope is with competitive servers having 60 tick, but even that is pretty low. not to mention they most likely wont have any lan or custom servers for the game.
Which is pathetic and entirely unacceptable. If this game ever wants to be a proper esport (which Blizz is practically forcing it to be) then it NEEDS to do these things. If they never come then it's just going to be overshadowed by more complete games that provide these essential features (CSGO). [editline]6th June 2016[/editline] Also let me say that I love OW, it's gameplay is super compelling and satisfying and all of the heroes are a blast to play, not to mention the exciting teamplay and hero countering/switching dynamic which is really interesting and puts the game over the top for me. It's just that it would be a shame for Blizz to squander yet ANOTHER great game by being shitty and lazy with proper competitive support. You think that they would have learned from the fucking DISASTER that was Starcraft 2 but it seems like they're being just as stubborn and bone-headed as ever.
It's meant to be a simple and fun casual game that you play for a short while.
You mean TF2?

Brawl is fun but it shouldn't outclass some of the wacky shit like what Coders can do in TF2. It's a fun game, it needs community, or rather a community in the style of CS:GO & TF2 if it's going to succeed. Because as fun as it is, it's usually those communities that bind people and make them come back for years.

It's a console mainstream player of course OW and Doom aren't for him. Everyone knows this kind of guy who likes sports and fighting games but doesn't like RPG/FPS/RTS. Nothing wrong with it it's just a different community/taste.
overwatch is a game i can literally only play with friends, because soloing gives me cancer at a subatomic level
judging from the first segment of his video it's entirely counter-opinion trolling. Sure you can just not feel the satisfaction of a win, but he doesn't even name that as his reason for not enjoying it, just a side effect. There's no discernable thing he doesn't like about it and even spends the first paragraph going on about how it's a well balanced and designed game with fun gameplay. he says he's got "15 hours" in the game, but that's like the first few days, and he's on console, and the first few levels are incredibly weighed down by getting matchmade with experienced players due to the lack of level gap representing skill gap in the first few weeks of the game. It's rough, but it's also a pitifully small sample to draw conclusions with
21,000 views = ???
a rough estimate based on slightly-above-average youtuber ad revenue, could be upwards of $40-50. vid paid for his game
I played it for five minutes and hated it. I don't like TF2 either, so I don't know what I was expecting. I only play deathmatch in online shooters.
Anyway, overwatch is overhyped to fuck and back. Certainly not in the local Facepunch thread. The game is just popular because it serves a niche that has recently only been offered scraps and is backed by a studio who can afford to market it. Just because something is popular does not mean that people think it's the best thing ever.
