I haven't played Overwatch yet (my laptop is a complete toaster) but I have been interested in it at least on a casual level and I do think the game could be pretty fun to jump in and play around with. I found this article quite interesting (disclaimer: it was from the beta) that articulates some of the faults that I think OW could have at a competitive level and also contains some comparisons to TF2.

I'm quoting myself to add something more to the discussion, but...
Level 4 means he's barely played. In a competitive team shooter you're not going to get much satisfaction from jackassing through a handful of kills. It's the same reason fighting games aren't fun until you understand them. Firing up Overwatch for the first time is not going to be nearly as satisfying as using what you've learned to defeat an actually good team.
The game is cool and good. Overhyped? A little bit, but it doesn't mean it isn't a stellar game.
