Like the concept is kinda cool and the animatronics could be creepy but you don't move. Like same setting but you need to check a fuse box or you need to clear rats and it's just tense and they follow you around without you ever seeing them move
That would completely change the way the gameplay works
Yeah it would make it scary
I love how a ton of people suddenly defend this game like it has sprayed some magic dust over them. Boring as fuck and relies soley on jump scares. The only tension is from the fact that the mechanics are not well defined and it seems that stuff can happen on random. This is not a good way to make people tense, it's just frustrating. Me and my brother are huge fans of horror games for years, we both tried this without being exposed to all the hype surrounding it. I got bored after the second day, he exited and started playing something else after the first. We didn't hate it in spite, because we didn't know it was popular. Just downloaded, played for 10 minutes and went "Ok, I guess, this is the game. Now, how about another playtrough of penumbra?"

Or maybe people defend the game because they like it?
This is a lame game that seems like something you'd find on a 90s shareware disc.
box of fruit loops cd-r
suddenly
I'm going to have to disagree with that. The thread was posted a week ago and the entire first page is people praising the game.
Or maybe people defend the game because they like it?
There's clearly fanatism involved. Even in this thread. Look what this guy said:
Goddammit I'm sick of hearing this shit you only get the jump scares when you die, it's not the game's main method of scaring you
It's not the only method of scaring you, it's literally the only method of scaring you. There are zero other things that scare you in this game.
That story at the end was beautiful
I'm going to have to disagree with that. The thread was posted a week ago and the entire first page is people praising the game.
Just like people were praising that war z game on the first pages, and giving out their hearts to KONY 2012 on the first pages. People are easily excitable. Then, those who realized that the game is not that great get called out by those who, for some reason, feel like it's their duty to love and protect the game.
This is a lame game that seems like something you'd find on a 90s shareware disc.
graphically wise, thats the point
graphically wise, thats the point
...? lmao
Then, those who realized that the game is not that great
you say that as if the game is fundamentally and objectively bad get off your high horse
you say that as if the game is fundamentally and objectively bad get off your high horse
It's got some flaws god forbid someone points them out. As I said the setting is original and the concept of possessed animatronics is kinda cool but the gameplay itself is so lacking.
graphically wise, thats the point
Rated you winner because defending a bad forgettable 90s .exe like this is really something you should be proud of.
I like how you guys act like a game needs your approval to be enjoyed by other people
It's got some flaws god forbid someone points them out. As I said the setting is original and the concept of possessed animatronics is kinda cool but the gameplay itself is so lacking.
i wasnt talking to you
I like how you guys act like a game needs your approval to be enjoyed by other people
This start because someone asked why this game got so popular. This isn't a holy crusade against a video game it's just people talking on a forum about why they think it's overrated [editline]26th August 2014[/editline]
i wasnt talking to you
Oh man shit I got bad news for you you posted on an Internet forum you should've PMd him if you weren't talking to me
There's a free demo, how about you give it a shot instead of basing your entire opinion of the game on "oh no there's jumpscares". They're not even really jumpscares. They're all predictable AND they're all the result of you fucking up, so it's not cheap. Besides, the entire game is oppressing and scary as fuck, it has an amazing tense atmosphere even though you can't move at all.
I still think jumpscares are cheap, even if they're predictable. Horror isn't really my thing personally, but the kind of creepiness that creepypasta gives off is what I like. This game COULD work out a lot better if it didn't rely on the jumpscares so much, from what I've seen of it. Seeing them in the videos I've seen deterred me from playing the demo. I bloody hate jumpscares. you don't need to belittle my post either by reducing it to four words, that's just silly [editline]26th August 2014[/editline] If jumpscares are your thing, go for it. There's some cool-creepy stuff in the game, like the explanation behind the suits and stuff, but it'd do a whole lot better without the jumpscares. A surge of adrenaline from a pop-up isn't really that creative, in my opinion.
It's not scary, sorry.
Yeah its basically a sub-par game that only got traction through a furry fanbase
Five Nights is literally meant to be a simple, replayable game. From the pre-rendered graphics (which yeah, make it clear that this is an indie game, but it was most likely made on a shoestring budget), to the extremely easy-to-grasp gameplay of checking cameras and remembering strategies, it's quite obviously not meant to be the new Silent Hill or anything. It's just a spooky game which focusses on building atmosphere. Obviously not everybody's going to like it, but that doesn't make it an objectively bad game.
I like how you guys act like a game needs your approval to be enjoyed by other people
has anybody actually said that other people shouldn't find their own fun with the game in this thread? i don't see anybody being shot down for their own personal enjoyment of the game

The jumpscares really aren't even that scary unless you're not expecting them, they're just a quick 'game over' so you know you fucked up.

We're seeing the same thing the player is seeing, i get what you mean but just from viewing this video it's pretty easy to see it's not that scary

Hopefully when they do, somebody will make a jumpscare-less version which would be better for people who don't like them.
This game is no longer scary because GMF told me so (User was banned for this post ("#3" - Craptasket))

ITT people who haven't actually played the game explain why it's not scary (User was banned for this post ("ITT" - Orkel))
