(cr1tikal) Five Nights at Freddy's Gameplay and Commentary
in fact, what would make the game a lot more playable for me would just be a fade to black with text saying something along the lines of 'you're dead'
I hate screamers too but a black screen saying "game over" or some variation is just a horrible way to end any game that builds up your tension.
That's like what half the Slenderman clone games out there do.
An animation showing the animatronics stuffing you into a suit with sounds of flesh and bone being crushed and screams of agony has been my idea for an alternate ending for this game.
Like when you lower the camera screens it shows one of the animatronics jumping at your face, kinda like they do now but with no screaming, a silent kidnapping, black screen, then play the animation.
Remember when this thread was for a funny video?
well that would be an impossible task considering this is a critical video
...but you don't all have to come in here and take a steaming shit on the game and everyone who likes it, thereby instigating pointless arguments with fans ... Coming into a thread based around appreciation for a game or someone who's playing said game just to say you hate it isn't a gallant quest, it's a "why reply?" ban waiting to happen.
I realize I am tearing this well thought-out post apart and that paraphrasing and attacking a sole component, but I've been feeling frustrated with this particular opinion that I have been seeing.
My problem with these two bolded lines is that this isn't the Five Nights at Freddy's thread. This is a thread of cr1tikal's video in which Five Nights at Freddy's happens to be the subject matter. Being as such, the game should not be exempt from criticism that people may have of it, especially when these points made are entirely relevant to the video (and the existence of the thread) itself. As such, I am incredibly frustrated when I see these "why reply" arguments against it, as I only see this as a veiled attempt to stifle the conversation into a one-sided circlejerk.
Even so, if this were the Five Nights at Freddy's thread, my stance would remain unchanged. Why would I think this? Well, I've been seeing a trend of these "why reply" arguments, and the majority of these are directed towards either two types of people: A) One who has not personally experienced the subject, or B) Someone whose opinion is contrary to the collective opinion of the majority of the people attending the discussion. I find this frustrating because of the hypocritical nature I see when I watch a thread progress through the pages. If someone has played the game a bunch, and is amongst other people who have played the game a bunch and is recognized for it, they could form the same opinion that could be held by either A or B, but they will be treated much more fairly. But suddenly once A or B form this opinion, they are presented with these "why reply" responses, which are solely intended to undermine the legitimacy of their concerns.
Remember when this thread was for a funny video?
That was a fun time.
I remember the video fondly.
It was funny.
I also don't understand how a fanbase can ruin a singleplayer experience. Because some individuals decide to draw explicit imagery of it? If you apparently hate it so much, why are you looking for it in the first place?
Reminds me the Elizabeth from Bioshock's case which it was hilarious but at same time so "really?"
Anyway, everybody is free to like, dislike or be totally indifferent. You're not missing anything.
i like the idea of the game, and i think it's good for it's price. i also think it's overrated and overhyped.
wow, my opinion isn't a negative or positive, sue me.
see how easy it is to place an opinion on a game without being a pretentious prick?
But these aren't screamers; you're actively trying to stop them. Screamers just pop up without warning or merit. You're actually being stalked by these bots and are watching them do it. When you learn the game, you learn why you lose and how to prevent that.
We've had so many games and movies that just go "BOO oh it's a cat jumping dowBOO oh it's a friend's hand on the shoulder" that many people associate "jumpscare" as "lazy". If you make the buildup, environment, and fear all crescendo into a big scare that makes your heart race, that's effective scare tactics, and that's why I approve them in this case.
Also, once you get use to them a few times, they end up being pretty friggin' silly.
I just find them annoying. "Ugh, I fucked up, guess I'd better turn down my volume."

Sadly on the internet, any difference between your opinion and the others is like sounding a war-horn.
It's just another scary game, there's really nothing special to it, it's well done sure but that's about it.
That doesn't mean you aren't allowed to enjoy it or anything, feel free to do so, it's your money and entertainment.
Although if you are into this game because of some furry shit, you're a gross freak, sorry.
I just find them annoying. "Ugh, I fucked up, guess I'd better turn down my volume."
That's a good point. Volume control for those would help, considering you do have to listen close to the game for audio cues.
I think we all learned something valuable today, folks. Different people have different opinions about things! They can find either gratification or frustration in a particular activity and that's okay!
And arc nova is secretly a time traveler from 2008 when people cared about furry porn.

Another good video from Cr1tikal. I don't know why but the monotone voice thing is really funny. Why are people ONLY talking about the game when this thread's OP was just the video?
Edit: Also forgot to mention that anybody that dislikes this game one bit must burn, obviously.
So what you're actually saying is that you actively look for such material, and then rant about it?
Are you perhaps a bit insecure about something?
everybody stop both ends of this dumb bickering thanks
[t]http://i.imgur.com/UwgGZfn.png[/t]
I started it all
I could have avoided it
The cycle is slowly closing in on itself because of me
It's not a bear, it's a rabbit!
I don't know what it is, but it certainly isn't Jackie Chan!

The future standard in thread theory
[t]http://i.imgur.com/UwgGZfn.png[/t]
never say the first opinion
the thread becomes a haven of peace until it dies after people peacefully talked about the video
everything is perfect
In all honesty, I prefer it when Cr1tikal plays games he doesn't enjoy (he mentioned that he didn't find FNAF to be a bad game), or the reeeally bizarre ones, like MDickie's games, it makes for a funnier video
Games like that one Mario sorta thing and Babysitter Bloodbath made for much better commentary, there's more to talk about, but the story in this video definitely saved it
To be honest though I don't really think FNAF is the best game to commentate
[sp]I'd like to also take this time to apologize for contributing to the argument as much as I did. I'm sorry[/sp]
look up 5 nights at freddies safe search off and please edit this post afterwards
It's not like the same exact shit didn't happen with TF2 and you've got 298+ hours on that, so...

This is probably one of the best cr1tikal videos

My one and only complaint from this game is the replayability
other than that, great game with awesome atmosphere
I bought the game for $2 and I had a lot of fun playing it with my friends, and I did find it scary, so maybe I'm just a baby or everyone in this thread are macho.
I knew this shit was going to happen. At one point in a popular games life everyone will start saying "the game is shit and has always been shit". Amazing how Youtubers like Pewdiepie and Markiplier can somehow magically "ruin" the game by playing it.
havent played the game so i cant really say how scary it is tbh (can watch amnesia easily but when it comes to playing it im a coward) but it seems to get quite a reaction out of people that I've seen play it
Are people actually trying to be wicked cool hipsters by talking shit about a cheap short indie game because its popular now
I actually like this game in the sense that it smartly plays around the jumpscares, playing on how you constantly swap from camera tablet to door controls so many times a minute, it really gets you more because you just checked the cameras so you expect it even less.
Five nights at Freddy's has better gameplay than all recent indie fps horror games combined
[editline]26th August 2014[/editline]
like, the horror in this game is tied directly to the game mechanics, and aren't just part of the game environment/setting. That's why this simple little change boosted the game into popularity.
Besides, you can predict all of the jumpscares. Foxy will jump you when you don't check pirate cove enough (which is your own fault), Bonnie and Chica will only jump you when you're checking the security cameras while they're at the open door and you can hear them breath down your neck until you close the feed. Freddy will only attack when you run out of power up until day 4 where he actually becomes the biggest threat by being utterly unpredictable, since he basically records all of your fuck ups, mistakes and reflexes and uses them against you. As for golden freddy, you can only get him via a very, VERY specific and rare event, it takes him several seconds to actually trigger the jumpscare, and the only other way to trigger golden freddy is to input a special code that you'd only know and be able to enter if you've played through all of the six days.
It's a very smart game on many aspects. People who complain about how it looks or how it plays have either missed the subtleties of the gameplay or have simply not played the game at all/past day one.
The atmosphere is great, in the first day after finding out all about it I genuinely had a little trouble sleeping at the start
It blew over pretty quickly but I still love the way everything's done, but I'm not one of those "too scared to play :o" anymore, I'll probably pick it up some time and experience it first hand
My obsession with the game doesn't mean I'm a fucking furry, I thought this avatar was funny and I just love the setting and atmosphere
I wonder how tedious it was for Critikal to make this video, I mean there really isn't that much to talk about in game, just wait and try to save much as electricity you have.
I mean you can see how much he skips every now and then if you look at the time/electricity.
Cr1tikal doesn't give a flying fuck, most chill youtuber by far
He just hit a million subs, btw.
