I hope grunt survive <3
Oh yes it's doing much better, it's not able to stand yet but it can get around on it's own now. I think A may be a boy and B may be a girl judging by their markings but I may be wrong, it's not a very accurate method. I may send some egg membrane in to be DNA tested, it's not that expensive to do so. Do you intend to eat one of them?
Have you tried checking up on egg B's legs? Just to make sure that nothing is wrong, considering that it had a hard time coming out.

Holy crap thats cute... Would go great with my kitty. That is, if he didn't try to eat it...
Have you tried checking up on egg B's legs? Just to make sure that nothing is wrong, considering that it had a hard time coming out.
It's not the legs that are the problem it's the neck. I took that one out of the shell myself so it didn't do anything at all. They both have good strong legs that run parallel to each other, sometimes Emus can get a splay leg, which is where the hip joint fails and the leg starts to turn 90 degrees outward, once this starts it can't be cured and you end up with a 150 pound bird that can't walk or take care of itself. To get an idea of how it was positioned in the egg, you'd press your chin down against your chest, then tuck your head between your legs. That's why it couldn't get out, it couldn't use it's beak to pip through the shell. Because of the way the head was positioned it's got a bit of a kink in it's neck, but it's slowly getting better. This condition can lead to wry neck or 'stargazing' where the neck basically turns all the way around and then stays that way, like a splayed leg it can't be cured once it happens. Normally the neck would be curled up in a loop to the left or right of the shoulder with the beak pointed forward towards the large end of the egg.

No, it's neck hasn't turned to wry neck so it's looking good, but yeah I doubt it'll make a full recovery, just a good one. It was up walking around a little bit earlier and I also saw it standing for a little bit.
This made me want like 16 emus so fucking bad its ridiculous
I used to be scared of emus. When I was a kid I was at a safari park and stupidly had my window open, an emu came up to the car and tried to steal my sausage roll. This is making me start to change my mind about them though.
If it's a boy and girl then why not call them atlas and P body
Pepper;35116026']If it's a boy and girl then why not call them atlas and P body
Because that's dumb. And P-Body has a really bad sounding name, especially for a bird.
P-Body sounds like a butler's name.
P-Body sounds like a butler's name.
Name them Wadsworth and Paddington.
Will you let these fine birds grow to become mounts? So that you may ride out on them along side your future emu queen.
I want one so bad! I wish they would stay that small all the time! Do you know if they'll bond with you? Sort of like parrots?
I'd say they've already bonded with me, they both get excited when they see me come to the cage. They just love to have their backs rubbed, when they get too worked up I'll go over and rub their backs and scratch their sides and they just love it, calms em down really fast and they both have their favorite spots they like to run to and lay down to be pet. If anyone else does it though they tend to shy away unless I've already got them laying down and relaxed. It's really handy at night if they start peeping and wake me up. It's definitely not food their after when they see me come over to them though, I haven't hand fed them or anything, only thing I've done is put some feed in their bowl once so far and tap at it to show them what to do, same with their water. But I'm actually looking forward to them getting bigger, I've actually never seen an adult Emu in person, hell up until a few days ago I'd never seen a young one either. They'll also be easier to take care of when they're bigger and then I can let them roam in the pasture all the time and they'll have lots of room to run around without me having to be there to watch over them all the time. That's part of the problem with the cage is the older one gets to running the Emu 500 and creating havoc and the younger one isn't far behind.
I want an emu now. I will get one and name him Orville. He will have a tophat.
Name them Ben and Jerry.
Name them whatever you want but please post about them, I want see how they grow up and what they do
Name them Ben and Jerry.
Got one girl and one boy, naming the girl Gertie. Need a name for the other one though.
Name them whatever you want but please post about them, I want see how they grow up and what they do
I'll keep updating for sure, they will almost double in size by the end of the month too. I'm just waiting for the weather to clear up and I'll take them outside a for a bit, the wind is blowing so hard they'd get carried off right now though.

Name the male one Leon, after the creator of the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge. It seems appropriate given the rambunctious nature of those two.
Hermes and Hestia
