if anything having your trousers trailing around your shoes is a hindrance. you don't even realize how annoying cargo pants are until you wear something that fits better. they're just so unwieldy and imprecise and shitty to move in
[editline]25th October[/editline]
also guys, shorts are perfectly acceptable if they don't go below the knee. so don't feel like you gotta wear full length superheavy denim in fuckin Arizona
if your pants go below the knees but don't make it down to your ankles, please rethink your life, thanks
It's fine to a very, fine degree. If they're half-way between your calves and ankles, that's too high. But if you're wearing decent socks, only about an inch or so above the ankle is okay, imo.

I wouldn't say 100% but yes, a LOT.
Dear god, fashion threads on facepunch always turn into such a shit show.
Are you guys serious? Fashion isn't like basic hygiene at all.

So not wearing the latest stupid fad is being "fucking scummy"?

Thats mostly to appease other girls. Men generally don't give a shit.

Not really, all those pockets add to bulk and totally ruin the way the clothes look. Plus, you just don't need all of those pockets.
If you want pants that aren't jeans, just wear chinos.

Doesn't mean this looks good. And this is pretty much only North Americans, if you go to Europe and Asia, guys are super fucking fashionable.
I've never understood the ads or fashion shows where they show things that people clearly don't wear.
I saw an ad recently of a guy looking like he was going for some kind of Doctor Who look standing on a bed flanked by goofy looking curtains and holding a massive handbag.
Dear god, fashion threads on facepunch always turn into such a shit show.
i personally take my fashion advice from a children's videogame forum as often as possible!!
I don't really give a fuck about fashion
If it meets the following criteria:
1. It fits reasonably
2. Isn't $400 for a t-shirt
I don't really give a shit.
Fit is most important because clothes that fit are both flattering and comfortable. Price is important because I'm a tall guy and it's hard to find things in my size that aren't as wide as they are tall without paying exorbitant amounts of money.

It is worth mentioning that I never said that decent clothes are uncomfortable, just that I wear what I wear because they are comfortable. That being said, I have tried tighter fitting clothing before. I still prefer my loose fit stuff.

I just got out of a meeting with a professor in the arts department at my uni, he came and visited my lab in the ME building (3d printing).
The future of high fashion actually does seem to be going the direction of wearable Tech and 3d printed custom clothing. It's pretty neat, even if high fashion doesn't really permeate down to the common level. I would expect that some of the wearable tech will come around though

as much as we make fun of snooty fashion designers who think they know ~everything about fashion~~~~ while wearing and making stupid fucking outfits, didn't we have a fashion thread on FP that did the exact same shit
I really don't understand the hate for graphic t-shirts or other things some people here have been talking about. Oh no, someone's got a logo on their shirt, or their pants have a few extra pockets. Big deal. If those people are dressing like that then it's very likely that it's what they like and think looks good. Criticizing people for their clothing choices is like criticizing people for their music tastes. It's childish.

you mean FULS? because yes, it's had its fair share of people who are a bit harsh with their criticism, but most of it was directed at people who posted an outfit then got super defensive when people didn't like it

It just makes me question how much real life exposure and experience people have with actual life.
I live in Vancouver, a stupidly fashion forward city for north america, and even here, wearing nice fitting jeans, a well fit shirt of any variety, and a hoodie is entirely acceptable. Wearing a suit? Wearing a polo? Cardigan? Whatever, it's all kosher. There's a huge counter culture punk scene too.
The concept that there's an "Objective" fashion style that's better than another has always flown in the face of logic to me. Fashion is literally a transitive process of repetition and cyclical trends. It's opinions and thoughts from certain perspectives and that's it. There's no "Objective" best fashion.
Like I just don't get how these threads go so fucking badly as some very self important people put themselves on an objective arbiters pedestal. I personally can't put myself in the shoes of someone who would judge other people so harshly based purely on clothing. Clothing for many people is personal expression, who the fuck are any of us to truly stand on judgement of other people? My dad didn't judge his clients, as a lawyer he held himself to a certain standard, but he was accepting of people even if he thought there clothes were stupid. I think that's a pretty reasonable view point.
Hold yourself to a standard, whatever standard you want, and embrace that, but don't judge people for having their own standards.

none of this looks even remotely good. especially not over here in europe.
frankly, you don't need to spend a shit ton to look good
I will admit that I have some splurgey pieces (iron ranger boots, couple pairs of gustin jeans, and a waxed canvas trucker jacket shipping to me soon), but in terms of shirts and my other pants I don't spend nearly as much

i 100% agree with this but the problem here isn't types of fashion its caring about your appearance. when i see people wearing stuff like i've quoted from mister sandman i think of someone that puts no effort into how they look and obviously that leads into their personality and whatnot. first impressions are important

exactly, you can wear whatever you want as long as you put effort in, but slapping on a stained pair of sweatpants and a shirt with pitstains shows how little you care about getting dressed, how little do you care about other things

But how are you defining effort? Is effort only when they meet your standards? Why are your standards the baseline by which we should all live? Who, besides yourself, honestly should give a shit about what you, or anyone else really thinks?
I don't get it. How do you empower yourself like this? How do you put yourself above other people so easily?

If that's what's meant by effort, that's different than meeting the fashion requirements of a certain person. As he said, none of those 4 very typical north american looks are good enough, they don't amount to enough effort by his standards. So how exactly should we dress? Just as a person says?
"Individuality is great, be just like me everyone!"

no, there's actual reasoning behind fashion, it's not just taste
for example, the undercut/hitler youth haircut has been a thing for a while because the short on sides + long on top look makes your face looks slimmer. certain glasses frames work better with certain faces because they create more definition. some color or pattern combinations are more pleasing to the eye, etc
I differ on my opinion of those looks to zerosix, i consider them pretty good
they fit well, they're clean, I don't see a huge problem with them
tbh I have like one really fucking nice 200 dollar jacket and everything else is less than 20 bucks and it's just jeans and shirts
that being said I do want to become well off financially and start making my own clothes completely from scratch because I hate clothing companies.
