I think it only really works for older guys, it just looks weird and nerdy on younger people.
"so critical?" it's a post on a forum usually preceded by someone in some way asking them how they look. like what do you actually want out of this to make them less critical? do you want people to stop talking to each other about shoes they like and shoes they don't like? or just that people need to be nicer when they say other people look bad? because less than half the posts here are fashion-related anyway, there's been like ten or twelve posts in six pages with actual fashion criticism in them. it's all just this pointlessly big vapid not-discussion about how mean everyone is that's getting increasingly heated for no reason.
let's boil it down a little. what's your favorite color?
This was a person whole sale writing off entire trends of fashion because of their opinion. How is that even comparable for you?
My favourite colour is black. I worked labour jobs, I wore jeans and band tees because they're disposable to me and no one cares what you wear and you have to wear shit that can get dirty. I worked office jobs. I wore slacks shirt, tie and a blazer. I go out on the weekends on the times I actually have time, and I wear jeans and my leather jacket with either a black or grey long sleeve.
I don't see why the assumption this is "personal" like you or paindoc obviously think this is, it's not about how I dress, it's about how I personally don't like it when people are largely dismissive and judgemental for entirely subjective reasons they insist are objective. Hold yourself to whatever standard you want, but don't insist the world do the same just because you think you're right.

does it need to be said that 90% of anything on a public forum is just individual opinion? this is why i keep thinking people are taking it too personally, because it just gets blown out of proportion and taken like it's supposed to be some kind of gospel. it's not. it's me saying i don't like certain t-shirts. that's all fashion has ever been. and that's why it confuses me so much when you say otherwise and play into this idea that everyone's constantly hounding you over that shit, because i just don't understand where you got that from and it's completely bewildering, it's like we're on separate wavelengths.
the reality is that someone's choice of clothing is about as relevant to me as their choice of sex toy. i just thought, this being a forum where you can talk about things you like and/or don't like, it would be okay if i told you i thought polo shirts were the fucking devil. which they are, objectively.

It's when you start saying shit like
which they are, objectively.
that I just don't care, you're either joking and you're just not able to write a better joke, like a funny one, or you're like a large amount of the internet, actually so self assured of your opinions that you really do honestly think you hold objective opinions about something as nebulously subjective as "fashion".
I mean how dare I speak out about the latter and just not read the former correctly? The internet is full of people who post their opinions as if they're the gospel, and I probably shouldn't have clicked on paindocs profile, but I did, and I saw an obviously personal set of jibes against the posters in this thread who don't agree with him, so he does likely think he's objectively right, so is it wrong that I speak out against that?
I don't believe my opinions are anything but that, and I go to lengths to make that obvious quite frequently. But I don't say "This is my opinion, but also this is objective" like you just did.
I obviously take it more seriously than I should because I actually care enough to write something out, but I'm not going to lose sleep over you guys genuinely believing you have objective answers to again, something as nebulous as fashion. I'm just not going to say nothing when I see that posted because that's part of who I am I suppose.

In that instance no, it was pretty obvious.
In others? No. In all? Certainly not.
none of this looks even remotely good. especially not over here in europe.
Can you give some examples of what you think looks even remotely good (maybe even a picture of your personal style?)? I mean those aren't top tier fashionistas, but that is 100% acceptable clothing - at least around the Copenhagen area. Like, the black dude is literally wearing a polo and pants, I don't understand how you could find that objectionable.

it looks fine in that it fits well and it isn't dirty smelly old shit, but it's just bland and boring. the kinda stuff you just pick off a rail and say yeah that'll do and throw a few quid at the cashier. to me that represents a bland a boring personality

It is an objective fact though that clothing sharply affects our perceptions of people, whether you like it or not. On a deep level, it does not matter in terms of defining the whole of a person, but it sharply colors first impressions. So many studies have been done demonstrating this effect. Looking better is not some mystical or super crazy science, there are a few small things that can be done to take one miles. So stating that someone who puts more effort into their appearance looks better than someone who does not is objective. And I didn't throw personal jibes at anyone here, didnt mention any names or make fun of someone. Literally just said zerosix objectively looks better than those who don't try at all.
Jesus Christ after reading this thread I feel like if a FPer ever saw me irl I'd get shot on sight
I never thought just wearing generic-ass clothes was deserving of so much hate
because everybody wants to 'pull birds' right???
not really what i meant mate. read the rest of the posts. i'm associating clothing with personal image, a poor personal image isn't going to do you any favours with the opposite sex. or same sex whatever floats your boat
this thread is funny
In that instance no, it was pretty obvious.

i've only made seven posts about this and only a few of them were actually fashion-related, one of which (the one above this one) directly said that fashion is entirely subjective. i don't know what i might have done to make you think i was trying to do more with those seven posts than show my individual thoughts on a plainly subjective topic, or when and where exactly i got this omniscient reputation, but i'm sorry to have mislead you.
now it's already getting awfully convoluted to post about objectivity on a forum that's 99% opinions and i doubt we're gonna get anywhere discussing the nature of linguistics or anything like that, so it's probably best if we start talking about shoes now.
Well, for someone doing a lot of assuming about other people, based purely on a quick glance at their clothing, you really have NO room to be speaking about "assumptions".
Like why do you jump to say "same dirty outfit every day"? Oh is that an assumption about me? Or is that an assumption about everyone on FP?
Fashion is opinions. I'm not making fun of anyone who cares about fashion. I'm laughing at the shitty, elitist attitude that you are espousing RIGHT here while not having the self awareness to see what you're doing. That's what I'm laughing at.
Um I didnt even imply that anyone here does that, I said that the only thing that I give a shit about is when people wear the same clothes all the time because I know people like that, I was on your side saying fashion was opinions by saying who cares when you're comfortable with what you wear, I dont think you even know what you're reading....

are you saying you wear generic more-fashionable clothes or the opposite? neither really matters. only really colors first impression and if your other posts indicate anything you're a pretty cool dude and that matters more
to me that represents a bland a boring personality
that is so deep bro. i wish i could analyze people so accurately like you
it looks fine in that it fits well and it isn't dirty smelly old shit, but it's just bland and boring. the kinda stuff you just pick off a rail and say yeah that'll do and throw a few quid at the cashier. to me that represents a bland a boring personality
Sure, it's bland. I think it's retarded to say people dressed in bland clothes probably have bland personalities, though. I've met loads of well dressed people that strike me as just boring people - just like I've met many people in bland clothing that turned out to be, well, bland.
What does it actually say about people? That they don't really care too much about there clothes. Maybe that's because they spend all their time in-doors not meeting people, or maybe it's because they just don't care because why should they? If people refrain from talking to you just because you're wearing what's in their opinion bland clothing, then honestly I don't think those people are worth talking to.
I have some bland clothing. I have some more fashionable clothing as well. What I wear totally depends on what's currently dirty. So I guess it's a 50/50 chance of me having a bland person depending on the day?

idk about that tbh

That just sounds idiotic :frown:
Combat boots are really commonplace here in Finland without any shootuptheschool-stigmatization.
That just sounds idiotic :frown:

then again finland is renowned for its high trenchcoat density
idk about that tbh
You just wear the legs of your pants over the boots shaft and you avoid offending anyone's oversensitive granma.
Because there is nothing wrong with them?

I would argue that, a good pair of desert boots or chukkas is always fashionable, can often be dressed down or up, and if you get a not shit brand they'll take a beating and not give a shit.
Also this is totally subjective but big boots have always made my feet sweaty as hell.
You just wear the legs of your pants over the boots shaft and you avoid offending anyone's oversensitive granma.
now that's a completely another thing i find kind of idk tbh
They're also on the same level of trenchcoats on the shootuptheschool scale
If you genuinely think wearing trench-coats or a pair of combat boots should be done away with because of a couple of crazy wankers, you're daft.
If you see a guy wearing trenchcoat, fedora, cargo shorts and a band t-shirt and looks like he hasn't showered or cleaned his face in a month... I can see why people would judge that. But if you're telling me you think its A-okay to look at this average looking motherfucker:
