C sharp is very different from Java but extremely similar to VB. I would argue that VB is not a waste of time. It teaches you some important concepts (maybe not the most important and maybe not in the best way).
For a beginner it is a godsend, you seem to have a little experience but don't count out VB so quickly.
Java is a compiled language (mostly) whereas the .net languages are interpreted. Java runs in a virtual machine whereas .net is executed by the common interpreter language (CIL).
I personally hate java because of many small details. Syntax, internal function names, operands, etc. In my opinion, keep practicing c sharp until you feel comfortable trying out simple c++ concepts.
C# is not similar to vb
Upon further research, both languages are a little compiled and interpreted. The important thing is the dependancy. Java depends upon JVM but c sharp and VB use the .net framework.

I got a CIW certification for web development technician in high school, but haven't done much coding since.
I haven't really been interested in coding anything since then. Just the occasional 3d modeling. If I ever get hooked on a game as moddable as a Sourcemod again, I'll probably get back into modeling and compiling. I kinda miss coding in Lua for Gmod 9.0.4

drugs offer interesting patterns of thought that can serve to be useful towards solving logical problems in an often artistic and fluid kind of way
while at the same time, relieving the stress associated with having to think about the solutions
it's surprising that people do drugs and program, given the nature of drugs, but it's not surprising that they could be a useful aid towards programming, given the nature of drugs

i'm 17 going 18 and british stoner-chav hybrids between the ages of 14 and 20 are the worst
like, i sit down with my friend (who's not really a chav but just gets involved with 'those types') to grab some weed, his dealer comes over
so we ask the first dealer for a simple 2g hookup - and it seems to be going fine
until he just kind of shakes his head, looks away with doubt and sits down on his phone and he's all "alright boss i'll sort you another guy i'm all out init"

I love programming while blazed, I seem to look at things from another angle, although I am usually slower with typing the code itself and sometimes I might forget what I am even doing.
Also, I quit cigarettes month ( smoked weed with tobacco every day first week though ) ago, have been smoking pack a day for past 7,5 years . Hoping to get some mary j today.
I'm taking propiomazine (propavan) to help me stay asleep but I still keep waking up after 3-5 hours of sleep and up until recently I could atleast go to sleep and only wake up once or so but now after I've woken up after a few hours of sleep and I try to go back to sleep I keep drifting in and out of dreamy sleep for a few hours until I can't fall back asleep again.

I dunno why, i think it's because the dealing happened at school and it involves a variety of kids from years 10-12 and shit. Still, police involved, holy fuck.
Actually, I might as well hop aboard the programmer druggie train, I graduated last semester after studying a little of everything, web development, game development, software engineering, all that sort of jazz. Now it just so happens that I'm back home where there are almost no jobs related to any of those fields nearby, so I guess I'm just gonna get a random job and smoke weed while I figure all that out.

Syntax matters a ton though. How you perceive a program at first glance is hugely important. Obviously the structures are similar and they compile down to .NET IL, but so does F#

Right, it was just an example of how even if two things compile to the same intermediate language that it can't be said they're the same.
UNDER THE HOOD they're doing the same thing but in terms of how the developer WORKS with them they're different. Sure, the difference between C# and VB.NET isn't as big as between either of those and F#. The point is, syntax matters [b]a lot.[/b]
