The quality of the image as a whole has been going down noticeably, like between my post and mkt's the image looks more grainy.

It's actually not a jpg rape, it's a paint rape. In photoshop you can't get such a bad quality even in jpg format.
When I see a bad quality picture, instead of only criticizing I remake it, and make it look awesome. True story.
