Not everyone of their songs sounds the same, but they all follow a formula that they've never changed, so yes, they are very bland generic rock.
I don't hate them, I grew up with them, truth be told, I'll give it a listen here and there when I'm bored, but to say they have even a modicum of skill or talent? That's just a lie.
I've never listened to Nickleback so I can't really comment on them, but I'm pretty sure most music follows a formula, even in genres like progressive metal (but more drawn out and less obvious). Song structure is just one piece of a composition, as long as they aren't literally ripping melodies and riffs off from their own music (like I said, I haven't listened to them) then I don't think song structure is a valid reason to hate the band.

Not horrible, just not good. They are so mediocre that it hurts sometimes. Chaddy K can sing though. And stylistically they sound pretty good, it's just so repetitive and it doesn't do anything new

What? She can sing quite beautifully, and the music she's made(Especially the shit she didn't put on popular release albums) is very good. She made pop music because she wanted to, not because she's limited to that. She's a great pianist and has way more style than any other pop person in history if you ask me.
I don't doubt her talent by any means, yes I agree with the style aspect. But musically she has a bit to go, potentially very good. I thought her last album was pretty good.

A lot of People Hate the Foo Fighters too which I disagree with. Their pre-05' stuff is really good, in my opinion. In 2005 Dave said he didn't want to be stuck in Alternative band from the 90's a decided to take a different path and while I don't like their new music I can respect that. What I don't like is people changing their styles to more mainstream/poprock to make money.
(Also new Foo-fighters album apparently the Heaviest Yet coming in 11', High hopes :v:)

but surely playing what people want to hear is like a pretty important thing in music? I mean, at the Springsteen concert I went to, it was basically a fan service, with him playing all the songs everybody loved. I'd rather see Bruce than watch Liam Gallagher be a cunt and refuse to play champagne supernova on "principle"
