I watched him kill himself... He bashed his head against the little bits of plastic to hold the net together.
RIP, one of my first albino cories did that, repeatedly smashed headfirst into the glass at full speed until he broke.
Work in progress. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1861/9542061d-cf84-489c-97ba-52c4bd384eae/IMG_20180320_231214.jpg
I want a fishy friend
I've had my snail breeding tank stocked for less than a week and I already have snail eggs. Neat.
Big snails or little snails? I've had little snails breed like a virus in old tanks after introducing plants that had eggs on them from the store. Never had luck breeding big boys like Mystery snails.
They're pest snails that I got to breed for food. I've had my Mystery Snails lay one sac of eggs before but none of them survived. I'd love for them to breed and have a successful brood though because I love my Mysteries.
I have trumpets in my tank -somewhere- that I believe are breeding as I occasionally find tiny ones when I gravel vac. The problem is they only come out at night so I have no clue how many of them are in the tank....
I don't even know what kind are in here, they're too small to really tell.
Shit if you were in aus i'd just mail you some in an envelope. I don't think theres any places you CANT reliably get java moss given it grows like a weed
I know, that's why I want it But my issue is if I order it online I'm worried about the week long shipping I'd be getting from sellers from Amazon being too long and it dying.
I've had good luck with stuff from aquatic arts and buceplant
Oh god my snail breeder smells like death. It hasn't even been up for two weeks yet. I have no idea how to do a water change/gravel succ without sucking up these guys either.
Buy a cheap strainer and have the outflow run over it, or put a piece of driftwood in the bucket and most of them will swarm it. You just shake them back off into your tank after that. How many snails could you possibly have after two weeks? I'm surprised you've already got a few dead ones.
I count about 20 breeding size ones, there's more small ones that I can't see with the light off.
Still on the fence about setting up a small tank and breeding shrimp to feed my betta, my only issue is having a small tank like the 10L for that would leave them super vulnerable to heat swings.
Alright well knowledge gained for next time I suppose. I had the fry in a small net that had a plastic frame keeping it square, only the fry would try and hide by wriggling into the gap between the frame and the net. Que the parents coming up to the net and somehow sucking them out through the tiny holes, I noticed them close to it thismorning and after turning the light on found all the fry had vanished. Guess ill be setting up the spare 10" next time....
I have a plastic breeding box, it's a lot better.
Went into a mom and pop pet store that and fish. Their equipment was over priced and their fish section was a bunch of 10 gallon tanks with random tropical fish and goldfish, along with a random tub of live rock. However, I just happened to look into a tank and something caught my eye. In a tank, there was three tiny baby silver Arowana. Unmarked on the tank. Asked the store clerk how much they cost and she didn't know what they were. She checked their books and offered to sell them for $3.99 I almost bought them all.
Oh man you should've bought those and sold them yourself.
Maybe if they still have them next time I'm in town... However I only got a 55 gal set up that's in mid cycle so it would be irresponsible to do. If I can't flip the fish to someone else in a few months I'll have a crisis on my hands.
Put an ad up on a fish forum for below market price, you'd sell them in less than an hour.
https://i.imgur.com/VY41c6o.jpg Girlfriend's tank is finally finished, not as large as I'd like but the puffer has yet to murder any shrimp in a territorial rage and all of the baby snails appear to be gone. Surprised at how much personality there is to this tiny fish, the eyes are crazy.
Aquarium store has bamboo shrimp in stock now, I'll go see them when I get money at the start of the month.. I'll probably get 2 or 3 of them, then my tank oughta be done.
Went to a new fish store to check it out and get some hardness test stuff. Left with a 48" remote control LED light bar. Help.
I thought invertebrates were supposed to be slow growers. One of my mystery snails has been experiencing a shitload of growth since I got him a month ago. It's too the point where I'm a little intimidated by him because he's so big [sp]and black[/sp]
Mystery Snails lay eggs outside of water. So if she's constantly above the waterline, eggs are coming.
Just donate them to your local fish store if you don't want them, most stores won't say no to free stock
There aren't any egg clutches so I guess it was just trying to escape. I wonder why though. If the ammonia levels were too high, then the other snail would have been trying to do the same. I also have a lot of plants in there to soak up nitrogenous waste and carbon dioxide, and my filter gets a lot of oxygen bubbles in there
My Java moss came in today and I just realized it won't carpet because I have sand and no mesh so I just tied it to rocks.
