Getting the balance down in the tank between ammonia production and nitrites / nitrates etc, algae should be clearing up over next few days / week with a good few water changes.

So my fluval 406 makes a jetstream in my tank, i feel like its going to blow my plants around too much. Anyone know what I can do to evenly spready the flow a bit more?
As long as your plants are well rooted, I don't think a strong current at the front of the filter is bad... Though it might be safe to not plant your plants right in front of it.
If you want to lower the strength of the output consider using a spray bar before the end of the outlet (you can drill one yourself or increase the hole size if needed)
I have a betta in my tank and they don't like a lot of current so having one lowers the strength of the output quite a bit as a fair chunk of the output is spread out over the tank.
Strategically placed terrain can also help. I have a bunch of rocks around where my outlet pushes down which prevents the current from washing over the sand in most of the tank
Aright cheers,
But it seems this canister is going back. Impeller cover that the store guy put in wasnt in properly, I also couldnt click it in when I took it apart, manufacturer tolerances yay. So it was humming loud enough to hear over my TV. Also the O ring was leaking after lubrication when I slightly tilted it...
Eh my one vibrates a bit too but I just placed some foam under the feet and its pretty much dead silent aside from the water moving inside. Leaking is definitely not a good sign but more often than not you can solve it by just taking apart whatever the bit is and re-setting it. The seal on mine where the pump section meets the canister was leaking a couple weeks back so I just took it apart and cleaned out the seal area with a cotton bud then put it back on and its sealed tight now, sometimes things just need to be in a different position to lock properly.
one corner of the gasket was leaking, even after reseating.
Just annoying that the impeller cover doesnt fit in, because I get loud humming regardless of what it sits on, seems like it isnt holding it well enough
Well if a replacement doesn't solve the issue you can always grab an Aqua one Aquis series canister, its what I use (got a 500 for my tank) and I've only ever had very minor issues that I was able to solve myself. Imo having the pipes saleable independent of the canister is fantastic.
Before you go down that road though, give this a shot and see what happens.

Im going to try that, maybe on the replacement one. But tbh, It should work without these problems out of the box, going to just replace it since leaking is a major fault.
I lost two puffers to internal parasites, I'm down to four but they're significantly healthier looking.

The one with yellow is H.R. Puff n Stuff, the one eying him(?) is unnamed

Different positions, unnamed puffer #1 presumably a female due to body shape, H.R. Puff n Stuff presumed male due to slender body.

Unnamed puffer #1 but with unnamed puffer #2 eying the blood worm, also presumed female.

They are so damn adorable
One of the ones that died had black eyes, if he survived I was going to call him 2D.
Okay so leak is fixed but now my 406 hums so fucking loud, I can hear it over my TV. Aquarium staff said impeller cover did not need to "click" like on the instructions...
But wtf. Its so fucking loud
Fucking HELL.
Seems they didn't put the cover on properly AGAIN, told me thats how its supposed to be. It fell off, made godawful noise. Now I go and snap it in, makes a grinding noise while still working.
I'm gonna throw this thing out my window
If the cover fell off is your house full of water now?
Also two things: 1) record this noise and put it somewhere, might be able to help.
2) I've read places that (assuming it is the noise people talk about) it may be that either the impeller is not actually all the way in or your flow rate is super high. On that specific filter I read there is a way to reduce the flow from the unit itself and doing so might fix that problem also.
It's more of a click, store owner confirmed it was the correct way to do it.

This is what it sounds like.
Was that recorded with the head unit out of water or the unit sealed and pumping? My canister has made similar sounds when air was inside it before, though honestly I think the only way i'd really be able to help much further is to physically be at your house.
Ill admit this is sounds like a bit more hassle than I had when first setting up my tank but don't let it bother you, its worth it in the end.
Saled up and pumping after tilting air out.
Welp, came back from an all weekend anime convention to find that not only was I not able to cure my goldfish's swim bladder disease, it was actually dropsy and it got so bad that I had to euthanize him with clove oil.
My tank looks so empty without him since I've had him for more than 10 years and raised from a tiny guppy to an absolute unit. Can anyone recommend some hardy species that will get along with 2 rubberlip plecos and 2 mystery snails? I've been looking at catfishes and loaches. I still have a lot of goldfish flakes but I can also skim mosquito larvae and a mysterious red worm from my outdoor turtle pond
What temp are you keeping it at?
Hmm. Recently I've had no luck with livebearers in the 29 for whatever reason. Maybe I should put some in the breeder box outside in the 125 and see what happens.
Also. I may have to take down the 125. Thinking of moving out of my old fart's cause reasons. Not lookin forward to either storing the tank or selling it.
I normally kept it at 70F but I raised it to about 78F since it was supposed to help my fish combined with the aquarium salt. I lowered back down to 70F since we're nearing summer.
I will buy the 125 if it's in good condition
Should I bother buying some seeded media? This cycling takes forever and I just want some fish & plants.
Or is it worth just sticking it out until I grow bacteria myself without contamination risks?
Just make sure the media is coming from a healthy tank and you should be ok.
And how am i asposed to ship a tank that big?
USPS or a road trip to visit me
More questions guys,
Where can I find filter floss/filter sponges cheap? I know im gonna have to use some of the fluval ones, but for the ones in my tray I'd want to find a cheaper alternative.
Most pet stores just sell pages of the stuff that you cut to shape yourself, its not very expensive.
I had a dream where my aquarium was having problems (very common theme for dreams for me) but I was at a store which sold these cubes of "aquarium fish emotion salts", you'd drop a few cubes into the aquarium and it'd help your fishes feel a certain way; More active, happy, less active, etc.
I proceeded to dump three bags of different emotion salts into my aquarium, I think that was a bit too much...
I constantly dream that my fish die in horrible ways.
I also dream the same about my friends though so I guess it makes sense.
