Because they think the officers are breaking the law and the supervisor will side with them and let them go. Good old "the customer is always right" mentality.
I wouldnt work for those supervisors.
TL;DR they think the Uniform Commercial Code (a subset of law relating to commerce, and COMPLETELY uninvolved with civil or criminal law against individual citizens) replaced the Constitution and they're living in some sort of corporate-owned nation where they can exempt themselves from whatever law they want except, say, murder, by simply saying a few magic words about how they do not consent to a contractual agreement to perform X task (where X is OBEYING THE FUCKING LAW), and then they have diplomatic immunity to it against the "corporate" entity that is trying to compel them to engage in "business".
we're living in the worst possible version of cyberpunk
we're living in the worst possible version of cyberpunk
"Worst possible version" doesn't even begin to cover it. No thrilling corporate blackops happening in the dead of night. No megacorporations literally selling people's lives to the highest bidder. No corporations getting their own countries and sovereign states. No room for anyone to fight against corporations, sneaking like vermin through the backalleys of the internet. But we still have people trying to be big heroes and abusing the corporate loopholes that they think the world runs on.
