Star Wars Megathread Ep 1: The Though Out Menace (AKA The Phantom OP)

You've got me there.
I hate to admit, I love all the Star Wars movies, despite the prequel trilogy's flaws, but there was one thing that bugged me about Revenge of the Sith.
Hayden's acting was decent for the first half of the movie up until he [sp] kills Mace Windu [/sp]. Then it goes to absolute shit. It really hits it's peak when he's on Mustafar, though.
"YOU ARE WITH HIM. YOU BROUGHT HIM HERE TO KILL MEEEEEE."
It's cringe-worthy. If it weren't for Hayden's acting, I honestly think it would have been great.

Hayden couldn't act if his life depended on it, saying it was decent at all during the series is giving him too much credit.
Doesn't help either that the dialogue he had to deliver was pretty awful too.
Hayden's acting was realistic, imo. Anakin just ended up turning to the dark side, destroying the Jedi Order for one women only to find out (From Anakin's point of view) that she's trying to kill you. As if anyone is going to stay all cool, calm, and composed. Then there's the god awful dialogue.
What I hate is how much of a broody, complaining, arrogant asshole Anakin is and that him and Obi-Wans are more of a minor-nemesis rather then friends/brothers. Remove Episode II, place ROTS in II's place and make The Force Unleashed 1 into Episode III, would've been nice seeing the creation of the alliance in movie form.
Also, anyone else find it funny that despite the Rebellion being about democracy, yet the planets of the Republic have Kings and Queens?
I really wish they remade the sequels one day
complete with animatronics
without that actor who did anakin
or these gigantic plot holes
and jar jar binks
but with liam neeson (in fact, 200% more liam neeson)
In fact, replace Ewan McGregor with Liam Neeson and have someone else play Qui-Gon. Or just Scrap Qui-Gon altogether and make Yoda his master (like it was said in ESB).
ewan mcgregor wasnt bad, he was just a victim of horribad writing
[editline]25th March 2012[/editline]
what about ewan mcgregor as anakin and liam neeson as obi wan with yoda as his master?
that could work.
Ewan was probably the best actor of all the Prequels, but yeah he just had some crappy lines.
True, he isn't a bad actor, again its the writing.
Hes also the nephew of the Actor who played Wedge.

Samuel L. Jackson? Christopher Lee?
[editline]25th March 2012[/editline]
Infact I think the best performances were done by Christopher Lee.
I don't know, but I always loved Ewan Mcgregor
Ewan resembles old obi-wan the most so he's perfect for the role of young obi-wan(Episode 3 Obi-wan resembled old one the most), redlettermedia said so himself if I recall.
Still my favorite lightsaber battle in all six movies.

Fast-paced yet simple with little to none of that dancing bullshit(Maul started it so it made him kind of unique.) was what makes it a decent duel up there with Duel on Bespin. Then Qui-Gon dies and then Obi-Wan goes all twirly and shit, and Darth Maul had to go and put the "Everybody was Kung-Fu Fighting" trope in Star Wars, and the area where they were fighting made no sense.
Also "We'll take the long way" lol.
Episode 2 and 3's fights felt too over the top, imo. The fights in episodes 4, 5 and 6 were, well, made in the 80's, so there's not much you can do to compare.
By my "Long Way" comment the dialogue for that was meaning they didn't really say what other route was there(Hell three guys went the opposite direction in the video from Padme and her squad), what long way was there, some emergency exit in the hangar?
In fact how is the hangar big enough to have a giant engine room that's height would make the Death Star and Bespin jealous.
I liked the Anakin Vs. Obi-Wan fight. Looked amazing in theaters and on Blu-Ray.

How in the hell were the fights in AOTC and ROTS over the top? In AOTC, you have Anakin and Obi-Wan get spanked by Dooku in mere minutes, followed by CGI testing its physics with Yoda flipping all over the goddamn place. That's not over the top, that's just GL running out of ideas.
As for ROTS, it's still not over the top. You've got two Jedi Knights (one's the master, the other ex-apprentice) that have A) similar fighting styles B) roughly the same training, albeit Anakin went through crazier shit than Obi-Wan (just on the movies alone), naturally they'll be able to predict each other's moves and be able to pull that one random good shot out of their asses.
How are they over the top again? Remember, the prequels lack the philosophy level of the OT, so the fights were mostly just flavoring, not the taste of the cake.

Wow Rewatching that. The music that plays when Qui-Gon gets stabbed is the same music you hear every time you board your ship as a Sith Warrior in TOR. Don't know if its the same music with the other Empire classes, I've only leveled a Warrior on the empire side
afaic, spinning around like a yo yo while fighting with lighstabers is pretty over the top

mind explaining the dumb rating? how is that not over the top?
I think we need a moment of silence for these helpless super battle droids:

they were just doing their job and searching the jedis' ships

then out of no where, r2d2 burns them!

rip fellow droids ;(
They should have kept the Soulless Killing Machine voice for the droids in Ep III. The funny-speak just sounds stupid.
It works in the TV series though.

probably one of the things that make EP 1 feel so childish at times

No, over the top would be Anakin and Obi-Wan on a ledge with an explosion (not lava jerking around, mind you, that already happens, I mean like a random bomb going off) right below them or something. Over the top is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
then I don't know what your definition of "over the top" is, bro

I'm assuming it was an opening stance to another form of lightsaber combat or trying to fake out each other.

dude, the RoTS fight was incredibly over the top and stupidly drawn out. it was supposed to be on of the most emotional fights in the prequel trilogy(which Lucas already fucked up with his horrible character writing), and Lucas decided it needed to be a fucking spectacle.
probably one of the things that make EP 1 feel so childish at times
Uh what? The Souless voices make it seem childish? Did you even read what he said?
The best thing about the the final fight in Episode III was the score.
Anakin vs. Obi-Wan is my favourite piece from the Prequels.
