Matthew Vaughn?

i like the idea of vaughn being involved on a star wars film.
that being said, i don't think he should direct it.
I didn't see this posted

VIII or IX (or possibly both) will be written by the writer of ESB and ROTJ
I'd like Vaugn as the director, he's a solid choice. Also for people still paranoid about how much Lucas will have to do with the new films:

"How Involved Will George Lucas be with Star Wars: Episode VII? "
... the question of 'What will George do?' rang out and was quickly answered with 'he's just a consultant'. Lucas spoke with Access Hollywood about what his being a 'consultant' entails.
“[If the filmmakers ask],‘Who’s this guy?’ I can tell them,” he said. “I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, ‘This is this and this is that.' Basically I’m not — I don’t really have much to do.”
let's hope John Williams isn't out of ideas yet; some of the stuff in Indy 4 sounded way too recycled tho so i'm not getting my hopes up

well, we could be guaranteed a few cues:
main titles
luke and leia
han solo and the princess
end credits
that's all i can think of, it also depends on what planets they visit.
Give me an official release of The Star Wars Holiday Special Disney. Do it.

uh, i mean new tracks, because every Star Wars film has some
It seems like J.J. Abrams was approached,
"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."
i wouldn't want lens flare in my star wars films anyway.

Star Wars in the style of the Star Trek reboots. Christ I can only image how amazing that would've been.

Could you imagine being the savior of BOTH Star Wars and Star Trek? My god the nerds...

That is one frame when they connect. Not every fucking frame of the movie.

It also isn't the unrealistic weird as shit JJ Abrams lens flare™
it's still a lens flare in a Star Wars movie
but yeah it's not overkill
JJ Abrams and Bay's Transformers cover like 35% of the screen in lens flares
Darth Maul was a terrible villain.
He looked really, really cool and he had an awesome lightsaber. Other than that, why is he a good villain? Does he do anything that makes him hate-able? If you hate a villain, they're doing their job right. (See "Nurse Ratched" from "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest")
Some villains have sympathetic story arcs. Take Darth Vader for example. He eventually turns good, but when he was evil, he was having a great time being evil.
Darth Maul seems like he's just there. When you really think about it, he's not even the villain. Palpatine is. He's the person who's giving the orders. Maul is just a pawn.
And don't give me the "oh, but he killed Qui-Gon" crap. Qui-Gon Jinn barely does anything either. He's a complete dumbass (see "betting his spaceship on a boy who has never FINISHED a race to win first prize in a race where everyone cheats") and to be honest, the Jedis aren't even the main characters.
Tell me, though. Who IS the main character of The Phantom Menace? It's not Obi-Wan. He just sits around and complains occasionally.
When you really think about it, neither of the jedis are the main characters. They were just kind of on a boring mission at the beginning having to do with discussing trade routes.
Here's a popular answer, though: Anakin. He ends up being Darth Vader, the core villain of the series, and he gets a lot of screen time. But here's the thing, we don't even meet the kid until half-way through the movie when they land on Tatooine.
I don't hate The Phantom Menace as much as many other people do (I went to see it in 3-D this year for crying out loud), but even as a kid I thought it was an incoherent mess.
Still better than Episode II, though. I fucking hate that movie. I still enjoy Episode III, though. Even with it's flaws.
To be fair Maul has only a few lines in the whole movie and only appears once or twice as far as I can remember.
Not all villains have to be sympathetic, but in the EU maul's backstory is explained. He was apparently born on a planet where the men are pretty much slaves to the woman who use the Force. But then his mother who was a force user witch gave him to Palpatine so he wouldn't live a life of slavery.
The main character deal Mr. Plinkett went over and is something a lot of people agree on, etc.
It was just a poorly written movie with many characters that had a lot of potential but were horribly executed.
Looks like Guillermo del Toro was approached too but declined as he already had many other projects on his plate

He did good on the Lincoln soundtrack.
He did good on the Lincoln soundtrack.
just as long as it isn't anything like the tintin soundtrack
that was seriously recycled spielberg tunes refashioned into an original piece.
it sounded good, but sounded WAY too reminiscent of star wars, jurassic park, et, etc.
this just in, lens flare ahoy!

Source is "individual with knowledge".
Everybody is running with this like it was officially announced. Even though JJ himself denied it a couple months back.
I really wish they remade the sequels one day
complete with animatronics
without that actor who did anakin
or these gigantic plot holes
and jar jar binks
but with liam neeson (in fact, 200% more liam neeson)
Why? Neeson went on record and said he doesn't even like star wars and his acting in ep1 shows it.
So it really does look like JJ will be doing it..so many reputable news sites are saying so now
They're all quoting that first source. People aren't reading it properly and it's spreading so badly that some people aren't bothering quoting the first source and assume it's truth. A few are reporting it as a rumour or a speculation. It's a mess.
Until there's an official press release from Disney, Lucasarts and JJ himself I refused to believe it.
Well, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporting are citing their own sources
Why is everyone assuming JJ Abrams is directing. Lucas or Abrams have not even said anything
BBC news hasn't reported it yet. BBC news is notorious for not reporting something until they have at least two sources. Which means usually they're the last to report news but they've never been inaccurate. They're never this late.
I think it's probably a rumour grounded in truth. But there's no proof yet.
