Out of all the movie's music this song is my favorite
Here are my two cents on the Blu-Ray changes. CGI Yoda in Episode I: I fully agree with this change. The puppet Yoda in Episode I didn't look very good, even when compared to the original Yoda puppet. This way, he is consistent throughout the prequels, and consistency is a good thing. CGI-ing the original trilogy is a NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Obi-Wan's Yell: I don't care. I don't really remember how it originally sounded, and honestly it's not that important. Surely there are better things to change? R2-D2 in Rocks: How'd he get in there? I don't know. Greedo Shoots First: I prefer Han shooting first (duh), but if you have to keep Greedo shooting first then you might as well clean it up. Blinking Ewok Eyes: A lot of people hate the Ewoks, I don't know why, I like them. The edits seem kinda shoddy, like they're still a puppet or animatronic. Are they going to edit all the other aliens blinking? Chewie, Greedo, Nien Nunb... Darth Vader Noooo: This one upsets me. I was watching the clip (to make sure it wasn't an Episode III repeat) and I was immediately drawn in. The intense drama, pain, emotion, and seeing Vader torn between his master and his son got my heart pounding (I'm getting worked up just typing it). The first, quiet "no." was okay. Not better, but not terrible. His louder "NOO!" as he picks up the Emperor was worse. Keeping this moment silent heightens the drama and tension of the scene. [editline]6th September 2011[/editline] Also, I checked and found that the VHS box set of the Original Trilogy I own is the original version - Han shoots first, no beak on the sarlacc...
How anyone can LIKE the Ewoks is beyond me. I found the whole battle on the surface of Endor's moon to be the stupidest in the film. But I'm sure trained Imperial troops can be defeated by a group of Stone Age teddy bears.
I honestly never knew a majority of people disliked the Ewoks until recently, browsing various forums and what not for the Blu-ray release. To be fair these "trained" imperial troops have never really been all that crash hot in combat, not even their fighter pilots are all that great either.
lets see you stand up to 5 Ewoks jumping on your head, while wearing that armour that you can barely see out of.
I actually wouldn't mind the first 'No'. It sounded well acted and dubbed in properly. The second one as he lunged was comical.
lets see you stand up to 5 Ewoks jumping on your head, while wearing that armour that you can barely see out of.
Fucking. Lasers.

But I think in the Expanded Universe, the books, and comics they can fuck shit up badly
http://www.cracked.com/article_15631_the-10-best-sci-fi-films-never-made_p2.html Rereading an old Cracked article, pretty solid stuff here. [release]The CGI scourge: If you're not sure what I mean, try to spot the difference between this: And this: The first one looks like they're actually standing on something (Jabba's flying barge thing). See the scratches? The beat-up paint? Nobody notices that during the movie, but it's a subconscious little hint that this vehicle has been used. It has a history. It's a real object. The second shot, you look at it and expect little power-ups to be floating around. You look for your control pad. Thank you, CGI. Thank you for letting the director project the most expansive reaches of his imagination into a bright, neon digital rendering that doesn't for one second look like a universe you could live in. Don't get me wrong, when I saw that space battle in Revenge of the Sith I did turn to my friend and say, "Damn, those are some phat-ass effects!" When I saw the barge scene from Return of the Jedi 20 years ago, all I could think was, "I wonder how Luke is going to get out of this one!" It gets worse. Have you guys seen other films with Hayden Christensen? He's not a bad actor. Natalie Portman? Nominated for an Oscar. Put them in the Star Wars prequels and they turn into mannequins. Why? Because, it's almost impossible to act in front of a green screen, often interacting with characters also represented by a green screen. True, it was probably hard for Harrison Ford to look at a fellow actor wearing a rubber mask and act like he's really an alien, but at least he's there. It's infinitely harder to stand alone in an empty room with green walls, without even the puppet to react to, while the director shouts, "OK, you've landed on a fantastic world full of alien life forms! The man comes to help you off the space ship ... look! There's a huge creature to your right! React to him! React! No, further to your right! No, he's taller than that! Look up! You're amazed! Put amazement on your face!" I couldn't do it. Neither could Samuel L. Jackson. [/release] [editline]7th September 2011[/editline] [release]George Lucas got older: No, I'm not saying old people can't make movies. But, ask yourself: How did the same people who gathered in naked, stoned crowds for this ... [t]http://cdn-www.cracked.com/articleimages/wong/woodstock.jpg[/t] ... grow up to make this show a hit: [t]http://cdn-www.cracked.com/articleimages/wong/raymond.jpg[/t] It's almost like they lost something along the way, isn't it? Well, so did George Lucas. Here's something unpleasant: All art comes from demons. Not real demons, in most cases, but demons of angst and horrible memories and sexual frustration. You get beat up in school because, while the cool kids are putting bruises on each other on the football field, you were sitting on the steps writing your science-fiction stories. That fear and tension that winds itself around your soul like steel wire as you try nervously to sneak out of the locker room before the big kids give you a Wedgie and a Tittie-Twister and a Dirty Sanchez, all that builds up into adulthood. Art is how you let it out. It was an angsty bastard who introduced Han Solo to the world by showing him ruthlessly blowing the face off a mafia bill collector, shooting him from under the table and then cooly walking away and paying his tab. Lucas introduced Obi-Wan Kenobi by having him end a bar fight by slicing a guy's arm off. [t]http://cdn-www.cracked.com/articleimages/wong/severedarm.jpg[/t] Lucas didn't flinch at the thought of blowing up the peaceful planet of Alderaan and killing billions. None of this was gratuitous; it told us the story and what the stakes were. Angst drives it. Now, if the artist is lucky, that angst goes away. If the audience is lucky, it doesn't. The art dies with the angst, you see. By middle age the artist finds himself watching his old films and trying to make ones that sort of look the same, or trying to make films his children can watch. It gets bland. It's not just with movies, you can start to see this happening with Eminem. As he gets his life together his songs sound more and more like remixes and covers of the old ones. He'll never do Bonnie & Clyde again. [/release]
The thing with Star Wars is that it has always used whatever was most advanced and available at the time. Lucas hasn't become heartless and mush, he's just caught up in the tech craze. If the prequels were made today they'd be 3D films. In my opinion the Prequels should've been made in the early 90's. When CGI was still too crap to overuse and models and hard work/creativity was available in buckets. Would've have made the films a million times better. Infact if it wasn't for CGI, Episode 1s technique is brilliant. Models and puppets and real explosions. But because CGI was around we get crap looking Jar Jar and Bigger fish. But the fact is, they weren't. Lucas has altered his original work. And the prequels HAPPENED. Kids are gonna grow up with 6 star wars movies and know no different. And they're going to love them all. Because when it comes to Star Wars it's the children audience that will be the big draw. And they're honestly not going to care if Han shoots first because they won't even know it's wrong. My Nephew doesn't. They'll be pissed in a decade though when Lucas re-releases them again and Lucas has changed some minute detail in Episode 1.
If i'm not mistaken, Greedo never shot at all in the theatrical versions of the original trilogy. Greedo only shot in the special editions, meaning that's the only situation in which Han could shoot first at all. Greedo never shot off to being with. That's how much the special editions have tainted the original.

There's not even the wide shot of Han leaning back before Han fires.
what Special Edition scenes to you guys like? The shot of Oola, or what ever her name is (The Twi'Lik Dancer on Jabba's palace) shown in the Rancor pit was shot for the VHS Special edition (same actress too, originally I believe you just saw her fall), and really doesn't detract from the experience. The full CG shot of the X-Wings approaching the first Death Star I don't mind. (hell for the longest time I didn't even realize it was CG when I was younger)

With 4 he was still new the studio had more power and the editor told him to go fuck himself, he didn't direct 5, and 6 is eh only because of Ewoks. But already in 6 you start to see the whole "every conversation takes on place on a couch with over shoulder shots" horrible dialog BS
The full CG shot of the X-Wings approaching the first Death Star I don't mind. They are all Luke. GJ editing fuckups
Better then Red 3. Almost every single X-wing in any game, toy, game modification unless they are specifically not Red 3, always seems to be Red 3. Also I didn't even notice the stripes represented different numbers until around 5-6 years ago, it is one of the details you don't notice unless you're really paying attention. [editline]8th September 2011[/editline] I'm so tempted to Pre-order the Full trilogy instead of just OT. Amazon.ca has it for $90 instead of $170
Amazon dropped the price again, the Complete Saga is now %56 off, $79.99. Why must you tempt me Amazon, you're as bad as Steam.

So there's no way to get the three original SW movies on Blu-ray without all those touchups?
So there's no way to get the three original SW movies on Blu-ray without all those touchups?
Unless the farts in TPVGL actually get something accomplished, no.
She liked Episode 3?
I'd have to agree actually. Also it was great to see Chewbacca again. They even got the same actor from the OT. I mean they really didn't have to, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have known any better. ( he was even in the Clone Wars studio for his appearance on the 3D show, he even made some of the Roars himself)) I believe the only Physical Wookiees in that movie were Chewie and Tarfful. [editline]9th September 2011[/editline] I just read this on Wookieepedia
According to the Revenge of the Sith DVD text commentary, during Yoda's "goodbye" scene to Chewbacca and Tarfful in the film, Tarfful's roar is actually Itchy's roar from The Star Wars Holiday Special.
I didn't even know ROTS had text commentary.

They had like 10 wookies which they then copied.
I'm glad I still have my vhs copies of the original trilogy Now all I need is a vhs player
I remember my dad buying the A New Hope vhs for me and showing it to me when I was young, like 5 or 6. He also rented The Empire Strikes Back vhs a little bit after and I remember thinking how dark that film was compared to ANH. Thanks dad :buddy:.

Blu-Ray release is out in the UK/Europe today, wonder how long until we see pictures. [editline]12th September 2011[/editline] http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/star-wars-the-changes-part-one.html http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/star-wars-the-changes-part-two.html http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/star-wars-the-changes-part-three.html http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/star-wars-the-changes-part-four.html Some Comparisons. There is actually a positive change, there was a Shot in the Original (I mean THE original!) that was cut off on the right, it was fixed. [editline]12th September 2011[/editline] Strangely enough, the Lightsabers in ROTJ were 'fixed' but, they were not in the first 2.
That change at the end of ROTJ when they added Christiansen in was just insulting.
Interesting to note, all they did was replace the head. The body is still the original. Someone did a comparison video somewhere.
The biggest insult they could possibly come up with the blu-ray edition would be adding a CG Jar-Jar Binks in random scenes of the original trilogy.
Just imagine his duck face passing right in front of the freaking camera in the middle of the cantina for no reason.
