Why is 9/11 such a huge thing over here but few people seem to remember 7/7
Not trying to seem like an ass, but the way the media portrays it and that 56 people died in 7/7, and 2994 died in 9/11.
Also, googling 7/7 gets you the google calculator saying 7/7 = 1. Googling 9/11 doesn't even bring up a calculator.
Why is 9/11 such a huge thing over here but few people seem to remember 7/7
I think it's because 7/7 was under control and resolved fairly quickly, nothing really came of it and it didn't change Britain, and although people say it isn't about numbers, I think it is in this case
Flight 93 went down now.
9/11 was terrible. But I don't think it justifies all of the lives America took when invading various countries.
You never hear anything about all of the civilians that the super competent American troops shot because they "looked like terrorists". Now do you?
It is only a matter of time before they piss over my homeland Iran as well.
And before you blurt out fundamentalist terrorist. No, I'm not. I despise religion.
I wonder if this guy made it out...

Just did some research, turns out you're right
You guys should really watch this, it's a really good way of viewing 9/11 from a fireman's view.
Basically, there is this guy named Naudet who is filming a trainee fireman. It's a normal day, and the fire crew responds to a gas leak not too far from the trade centers. Chief Joseph Pfeifer is with them and he is measuring something when all of a sudden you hear this loud rumbling sound (the jet engines) and Naudet gets the plane crash into the 1st tower on film.
You hear the real reactions of all the firemen, and Naudet follows the firemen from getting into the car and going to the trade center (they were the first emergency workers to arrive). You actually see inside as Naudet actually goes up into the towers with a fire crew while filming.

Am I the only one who wanted to cry after reading most of this thread?
It's just such a depressing day in general, and reading some of the stuff in here is just.. :(
If anyone watched the live BBC footage they completely miss the second plane, the camera sees it but the reporters don't so after the second plane hit the reporters say, "hang on, it looks like the second tower is on fire, do we have any reports on this?" and the other reporter says, "perhaps the plane went through the first tower and into the second". It's not until about 10 minutes after that they say, "we are receiving unconfirmed reports that a second plane has hit the second tower"
It seems that the BBC can't see their output when reporting, I can remember quite a few things where the BBC have been reporting stuff using other peoples feeds and have missed stuff like that.
I still can't believe this happened, I just can't imagine how it was for the people trapped in that tower, some with families, it must've been terrible for them.

it was not Tony's first day. they'd been videotaping him since June. it was his first fire.
At this time, the north tower fell

several people my family and I knew passed 10 years ago at that very moment. RIP.

Now that replacement building looks cool.
Modern Architechture really looks great.
Why is 9/11 such a huge thing over here but few people seem to remember 7/7
Well, because it was the first large terrorist attack on western soil, it destroyed two landmarks, it killed 60 times as many people and ignited a war.
The 9/11 memorial fountain thing is the size of one of the towers, right?
I don't like how the U.S media presents anything about 9/11 "Muslim Terrorists" which makes people think every Muslim is a terrorist out to get them, and for that reason i could care less about 9/11. But i do care about the people that lost their lives, the ones in the buildings, the firemen, the ones in the planes. It was a sad day :(
Maybe Fox News talks about "Muslim terrorists" but not once have I seen anyone on any news station blame the Muslims for what happened on 9/11.
I personally believe that the media coverage is too overwhelming and in some cases, disrespectful. But one of the reasons that it's still such a prevalent issue in our country is that all the firefighters and police officers that survived the rescue efforts are developing terrible cancers and diseases from the rubble and our government refuses to give them benefits or do anything other then calling them heroes. The NYC Police Officers, Port Authority Police Officers and FDNY Firefighters were not invited to the 10th anniversary of 9/11 at Ground Zero because of a lack of room, but all the politicians that did nothing in the rescue efforts were invited.

Someone a while ago said that people should remember the people and not the event (I dunno if they were quoting someone else or what). I think its true to be honest, the how and why the people died is not that important (when remembering the people anyway), the people should just be remembered.
Well, because it was the first large terrorist attack on western soil, it destroyed two landmarks, it killed 60 times as many people and ignited a war.
It wasn't the first large terrorist attack on Western soil, and most certainly not the first to ignite a war. That aside, I can understand why 9/11 is remembered more than 7/7 purely because of how "public" the entire thing was, as you say landmarks being destroyed as opposed to "just" some trains and a bus being attacked (which to be fair happens far more often).
10 years later and my relatives are still being sent to countries abroad? Fuck that.
It's fun compiling list of retards who parade 'Africa starves' banners in memorial threads.
And then you see people like WBC saying "Thank God for 9/11"...
Oh god the people on NBC have to pronounce all of the names correctly.
The whole strike was blown out of proportion in the media to incite extreme patriotism in the people to ready them for war.
Edit: Yeah, the holocaust was extremely horrible but do the jews have a yearly crying day for it?

Good video to summarize my feelings about 9-11.
Rwandan genocide over 800,000 civilians killed in under 100 days
You can't compare one event to another based simply on numbers. Oh God the Black Plague killed 400 million people so I guess 9/11 wasn't bad.

Time is relative, and I'm inclined to agree with you. It did happen fairly quickly.
I need to scan the front page of a World Records book that has the Twin Towers being built.
