The world lost so much more than 3000 people, 4 planes and two towers that day. Maybe it's just me, but if you stand in ground zero... you can sense something that's horribly, horribly wrong.
It's still terrifying to know that Popular Mechanics fucking called it on what the attack would look like (the actual article was about Air Traffic Controller error)....20 years before it even happened.

9/11 wasn't even bad compared to other events that have happened, I dont get why its such a big deal, yeah people died may they rest in peace, i bet if this happened in a different country it would be lost in history in a couple years

It's hardly fair to compare the nature of one disaster to another.
We remember because we were alive when it happened and there are people out there who still remember the day they lost their family members.
Once this generation passes, I'm sure the 9/11 memories will fade.

Let this one slide.
My father was out that day because he had Cancer (We caught it early so he is fine now). The only thing that would have kept him from being called in that day would only be that. He works for Con Ed. He went there shortly after they fell to help clean up. He still suffers from all of the dust in the air and I can't even imagine how the first responders are even coping with it.

The first set is taken by a photographer at the base of the World Trader Center. I'm unsure if these were taken after or prior to the impact of Flight 175 on the South Tower. The majority of these pictures are taken around the base of the North Tower and surrounding area. Due to the sensitive nature of the images I'll describe them above the link, do not click if you do not want to see what I describe.

Although at first glance some may not notice it but the ground is littered with thousands of little red pieces. I never realized how many body parts were caused by this. I always figured most of the people would have died inside the building/on the street, not blown to bits on the sidewalk.

It's exactly this. Additional injuries and deaths were caused at the base of the Towers when the immediate area around them was subjected to falling debris. Additionally several dozen people were burned to death or in critical condition when jet fuel ran down the elevator shafts, burning people in the elevators and sending fireballs into the Sky Lobbies, Floor Lobbies, Several Floors throughout the building and even the Basement. This also caused dozens of cars to ignite.

The Firefighters said those glass triangles were made of plexi-glass or something and the Jumpers didn't go all the way through. You can see where one made it partially through one behind the truck.
