I didn't know about 9/11 until like 2006. I remember we had a silent moment when I was on 2nd grade, but I didn't know what for :/ Edit: Yay I'm dumb because I have no memory of the thing. It's not like I'm saying "I don't care" you know
but then we responded, and killed several thousand of their civilians. That's what pisses me off the most, people used this attack to start a war that killed more civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq than everyone in the towers.
A war in at least a couple of countries, that is still going on with no end in sight, at that. That's what I think about when ever I am reminded about 9/11... Not the terrible shit that happened that day, but all the terrible shit that's been going on since then. And the youngin's will never understand why they have no (respectable) right to freedom/privacy in this modern age.
Recco seems to really find the death of thousands really funny. sick fuck.
why is Recco rating everything about deaths funny, and all the sad videos dumb? I don't care if he's a troll, if you joke about that you are the biggest ass on earth
Yeah, he's being a bit of a dick. Any mods think it's grounds for banning, I know it only slows and that he'll probably come back, but still? It can count as trolling. http://www.facepunch.com/members/446242-Recco He's "Funnied" the majority of media posts in this thread. Even though 9/11 didn't affect me directly because of my age, I still show respect to everyone involved in any way.
The ceremony took place. When the band opened up with the Star Spangled Banner a strong breeze blew through and while they played it all of us were cool. I don't know how that happens but it was really cool.
I do agree with you. and anyway I think the americans are a little bit hypocritical, the war that you started after this has killed over 100,000 civilians so far. Good job! god bless those heroes.
Man, security is going to be fucking INSANE on Sunday.
Man, security is going to be fucking INSANE on Sunday.
Im pretty sure it will be like any other day...
Im pretty sure it will be like any other day...
http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1123895 Probably because of this. [editline]9th September 2011[/editline] By the way, they're opening a memorial for the hijacked Flight 93 on sunday. If you don't know what it is, Discovery did a documentation on it way back: (There are other parts, just look in the suggested videos for them.)
The worst part about 9/11 is that both sides have been equally barbaric, both the perpetrators of the attack and some of the ways the US (And other countries) responded. Guantanamo bay, for example, should never have happened. But the people responsible would claim that the ends justify the means. I disagree.
All TV stations where down for a few seconds and there was the Breaking News thing, it was also on every single newspaper (obviously) How the hell could you not noticed the disaster
I only extremely vaguely remember the attacks myself, anyone younger than me has very little chance
A person from my school was on Flight 93, named Todd Beamer, and from what I hear he is the one who lead the passengers to take the plane back.
"let's roll."
nobody moves on from this unless they were born too recently to have understood it when it happened. You're what, 21 now? You were in the 6th grade. I'm only a little older and I knew it was terrible back on the day, even though I didn't fully understand what was going on. I have to wonder if people actually think it was just some buildings that got knocked over, and forget the thousands of people who died horrific and pointless deaths so that some asshat overseas could say "hey, fuck you guys"
This is the entire reason I try to post those pictures a page back. For the people who weren't around or didn't understand the whole gravity of the situation. They watch TV and see the same pictures of two buildings collapsing. They ignore the fact that there was huge amount of human life lost and the all died in tragically horrific ways. We should never forget how 3,000 innocent people were killed that day, the thousands blown apart and spread across Manhattan, who burned to death in their office, or jumped onto the Plaza below. These are the human elements that make the day tragic, not some dry statistic and some falling buildings.

I remember this when I was in 5th grade. I was sitting in my parents bed that morning when we were all watching the news. I remember seeing the first tower fall but I had to go to school before the second one fell, not that I feel like I missed out or anything. May the souls of the passed rest in peace.
recco and twistai are probably the same person. although i have realized the trolls in these 9/11 threads its mostly austrian douchebags. good job representing your country, assholes.
[thumb]http://www.history.com/minisites/world-trade-center-reborn/world-trade-center-reborn.jpg[/thumb] Very informative picture of what it will look like when it's finished.
I think it's awesome how they're making it 1776 feet tall. Watching the videos of jumpers always makes me uneasy, watching the one Codemonkey posted with the guy trying to come down and slipping really makes me uneasy.
fun fact: The man in the iconic "Falling Man" picture is the brother of Alex Briley from The Village People.
Just found this on CNN's site. It gives great personal stories from various people who were involved in 9/11 whether they were a firefighter, film maker, or a survivor in the tower. Just thought I'd post this in case anyone was interested.
A person from my school was on Flight 93, named Todd Beamer, and from what I hear he is the one who lead the passengers to take the plane back.
Best American in the history of our country. And roll they did.
I wanna say I was in 4th grade then. I saw it in the morning before school. We were living in Canada at the time but everyone was still talking about how horrible it was. I was in a shock the whole time, it seemed so unreal. Being a child you're oblivious to the real world, but it was like reality gave me a hard kick to the balls that morning. Suddenly everything seemed more important. It would definitely set the tone for the whole century probably. It will be a major historical event along side pearl harbor.
Is there any footage from people that were recording INSIDE one of the towers?
What do you mean? There is some footage from inside the Lobby at the FDNY Command Post but beyond that the only other media inside the towers was from a few pictures in the North Tower a guy snapped on his way down.

Not sure if they made it back down or if it was recovered from the wreckage.
My sister just said: "I'm sorta like that too, let's forget it. People in Afghanistan have to deal with it everyday" Are you fucking kidding me? The main reason they do is because they decided to bomb us. [editline]Edit:[/editline] Ah ha ha I didn't specifiy who in Afghanistan. Let the boxes roll in.
