Well said, DrBreen, well said The event itself was a tragedy but the way it was used to justify such terrible wars and operations and violate personal liberties is a complete disgrace for a "FREE" "DEMOCRACY" supposedly at the top of the world.
Exactly 10 years ago to the minute, the first plane hit.
Do other countries care about 9/11? Like UK, Australia as a whole, etc.
Yes
3000 kills yeah it's sad what's sadder is what was triggered afterwards, the patriot act and the war on iraq, the death toll over there ? 700.000 civilians. The means don't justify the end america How about the firefighters the first response people? those are the true heroes, and what do they get? cronic lung diseases, and your shitty government doesn't even give a shit. So yeah i might seem bitter with this post, but i like to see the big picture and it's a wall of shit.
Indeed, what the hell was the US doing in Iraq anyway? Taking it out over a lot of innocent, that's what it feels like to me. It's a sad day.
If anyone watched the live BBC footage they completely miss the second plane, the camera sees it but the reporters don't so after the second plane hit the reporters say, "hang on, it looks like the second tower is on fire, do we have any reports on this?" and the other reporter says, "perhaps the plane went through the first tower and into the second". It's not until about 10 minutes after that they say, "we are receiving unconfirmed reports that a second plane has hit the second tower"
Full version of 102 minutes:
I find it surprising that in this video 911 are telling those in the tower to stay where they are and not evacuate, I was always taught to head for the nearest fire escape in a fire..
Is it true that America got a threat from Iraq about another attack?
9:03.
Is it true that America got a threat from Iraq about another attack?
There was a credible threat that Al Qaeda was planning a car/truck attack in New York today. Not Iraq in general..
There was a credible threat that Al Qaeda was planning a car/truck attack in New York today. Not Iraq in general..
Thanks for the information. Turkish news channels are usually about inside our country. I bet they even won't mention 9/11.
Is it true that America got a threat from Iraq about another attack?
They might have, but then It comes down to, was it a real threat or made up?
They might have, but then It comes down to, was it a real threat or made up?
You can never know. We had like 10 threats of bombs in usual places this year. Police only didn't care about 1, and that 1 was real. A woman passing in front of the bomb got injured.

On the subject of media coverage, that's not exactly something that anyone who isn't in a position of power can resolve. Personally, I'd like to see a lot less of 9/11 in the media around this time of year. Maybe on 9/11 itself, sure, show some documentaries and stuff. But having them run for a week beforehand? That's just overkill. But like I said, it's not really something we can control. The Media in general is ultimately useless and all about ratings. They like to remind people that "HEY, 9/11 IS COMING UP, WATCH ALL THIS SHIT SO YOU CAN REMEMBER TO WATCH ON THE ACTUAL DAY".
I for one will be taking a moment of silence today. Many people say to "Get over it", but they do not understand that getting over something does not mean forgetting about it. I mourn for those who lost their lives, those who lost their loved ones, and the changes those attacks brought upon America. I take my moment of silence in respect to those who died trying to help, those who helped, and the ones still suffering from chronic illnesses as a result of their courage today. I feel deep sympathy for those ostracized now for 10 years as a result of their religion or race as a result to these attacks, and anyone subjected to the mass xenophobia that stems from what happened on this day. While I may not support the wars going on in the Middle East, or the political rhetoric driving it, it does not mean I do not respect and have sympathy all those who lost something that day. I also find myself hoping to a god I do not believe in that nothing else happens today.
Not meaning to be an asshole, but 3.75 million people die each year of water related diseases, just because they don't have clean water. And yet Americans (myself included) get sentimental and "reminded" of what happened on this day. Get off your high horses, people.

I for one will be taking a moment of silence today. Grow up and perhaps understand that not everything needs to be compared on a grand scale.
Guys, live coverage of the anniversary here: http://www.youtube.com/user/AlJazeeraEnglish [editline]11th September 2011[/editline] If its not working, here's another: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/september-11-attacks/8755389/911-anniversary-live.html
This is actually reminding me of something. Recently there was a plane accident in which a famous hockey player died (Stefan Liv) Now of course that is a sad and unfair way to die an it's great that people feel sad about it and care. But what about the other 42 people that died in that plane crash, no one seem to remember them or even write "R.I.P Stefan Liv and the other sad souls that died in that plane accident". Things like this makes me sad. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/StefanLiv
I should clarify, what I said doesn't mean that I'm anti American/ don't think today should be disregarded in any way. My prayers and my thoughts go to the brave men and women who risked their lives to have others safe and the ones who still suffer from their loss.
I know it's 9/11 but the newspaper reminded me anyways [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/nxch8.jpg[/img_thumb]
I did not realize having sympathy was being on a high horse. Grow up and perhaps understand that not everything needs to be compared on a grand scale.
I wasn't saying that at all. I'm saying that even though there was a remarkable amount of deaths today, it shouldn't stop you from saving others and be their heroes like how there were many heroes on that day who risked their lives to keep others safe. But you're right, my comparison is really unnecessary. I'll snip it to prevent and save time on future arguments.
Good. If they think it's funny to disrespect those who died on 9/11, then they need a good break from Facepunch.
I (Aspen) actually got banned for flaming some dickhead that rated every single emotional post funny. also, I would have tried to reduce my ban length, but it's not like it will happen. i'd lose that battle quick if I say that my actions were somewhat justified. I admit that i went a bit overboard, but i knew people that died in those towers. what recco and twistai are doing is completely disrespectful and it hits me hard. it's just 9/11 will be plastered in my heart forever. so many great people lost in those attacks and why people think it's funny to make fun of that day, I'll never quite understand..
Can't wait to see freedom tower reconstructed.
Now this is a sad day. I remember when the towers fell, and I was in third grade I think. The point is, it felt like a regular day, and looking back at it now, I feel stupid for not acknowledging something like this. Also, is anyone else watching the FOX 9/11 Coverage right now?
I'm watching the CNN coverage, the stories are really sad.
I (Aspen) actually got banned for flaming some dickhead that rated every single emotional post funny.
Nice alt update the live coverage links to the Op please
Actually they've been receiving assistance from our shitty government for the past decade.
Not all of them, in order to actually recieve money/compensation for your medical issues caused by 9/11 (smoke, debris etc) your disease has to be proved to be linked to and caused by being a first responder to 9/11. So far, some diseases have not been linked and firefighters, paramedics, and other rescue workers live with serious health issues and receive no compensation.
Why is 9/11 such a huge thing over here but few people seem to remember 7/7
Nice alt update the live coverage links to the Op please
I can't. but what I can do is ask an admin. I don't know if they would do it. I PM'ed Pascall about it. Awaiting a reply. [editline]11th September 2011[/editline]
Why is 9/11 such a huge thing over here but few people seem to remember 7/7
not sure brother, but my heart is with the 7/7 victims and their families.
