Lake Garibaldi north of Vancouver, and Ruckle park on Saltspring island are two. Don't forget my cottage too. VIA only leaves from Edmonton and Jasper and costs $200-300 for a round trip. I'll help anyone who wants to set up a NW campout
Your cottage is great and all but its going to cost alot for Americans and Mainland canadians.

Groups of 15+ people are only allowed two vehicles. Where is your Cottage located? [editline]8th January 2012[/editline]
So no northeastern US camping trip? I'm sad.
Anyone from the area can feel free to plan a NE US camping trip. North-West currently has the ball rolling because it has the most dense and large group of people.

But they're not as well maintained and I don't think there is firewood on demand.

The others are 800+ KM from Vancouver and would be a long trip for everyone.
Your cottage is great and all but its going to cost alot for Americans and Mainland canadians.
It wouldn't cost that much, I should have my boater's license by then, so i can pick people up at the ferry terminal, so you can just go on as foot passengers.
The only one I could find that was nearby was the Gulf Islands. The others are 800+ KM from Vancouver and would be a long trip for everyone.
Exactly, so I think we should just get 2 campsites, split the cost everyone that comes has to chip in.
Exactly, so I think we should just get 2 campsites, split the cost everyone that comes has to chip in.
For two groups, we are allowed I believe 2 vehicles. If it's not in Vancouver and it's off the island, I'll be driving for sure.
For two groups, we are allowed I believe 2 vehicles. If it's not in Vancouver and it's off the island, I'll be driving for sure.
I thought it was 2 cars per campsite.
I thought it was 2 cars per campsite.
Possibly. I know that if that's true, it's an extra fee for the second car. So that leaves 4 cars for 5-8+ people.
No and your dumb four trying.
If there's one in NE-US, I'd be all over that. I'm in North-Central Massachusetts (Worcester County) Gotta love camping.
You'd think with the population of people in California there would be more FP'rs from the west
You'd think with the population of people in California there would be more FP'rs from the west
A lot more people have voted in the poll than have given us their state/province. So I wouldn't count the map as an accurate representation of where FP'ers live, just the people who are interested in a camping trip.
Sibbald Point, Lake Simcoe, Ontario, Canada seem to be a nice place... If you guys can swim, Lake Simcoe is a great place for a dip or just play some ball.
Just to throw my two cents in: For a NW meetup, not only is BC the best place to do it, but Vancouver Island has a huge amount of camping sites that would all be suitable for a large group of people. I can think of one off the top of my head on the Cowichan River that requires advance reservation but has 8+ tent setup spots, parking, outhouses, and a covered area for eating/food prep as well as being about 50 feet from a river that's perfect for tubing and swimming. There's also multiple hiking trails and a mountain trek that you can do with some natural caves that you can spelunk in. It's about an hour uphill bike ride. I probably wouldn't be going but you guys clearly need someone to plan this bullshit so either get a leader or figure it out like a ragtag bunch of socially awkward nerds (ie you won't) [editline]10th January 2012[/editline] Actually on that note the Gulf Islands in general are the best spots to do large camping trips, they definitely have the best-suited campsites. Ferry tickets for walkons are only about 17 bucks each way and parking at the terminal is ~15 bucks a day per car. Pretty affordable overall for travel expense

I'l make a pro-con list for voting on a campground in a bit.
I can do a OP/plan for a NW meet. I'l make a pro-con list for voting on a campground in a bit.
Really don't bother. Pick the best one and say that's where it will be. Too much talk and not enough action.
Really don't bother. Pick the best one and say that's where it will be. Too much talk and not enough action.
Well, we need to agree on a location. I still think my cottage will be the cheapest/easiest to organize option. I went to a FP meet up in 2010, we need more FOP mobiles
we need to seperate this into regions Northwest Northeast Southeast Southwest Midlands Outer 2 States everyone make seperate threads.
we need to seperate this into regions Northwest Northeast Southeast Southwest Midlands Outer 2 States
It already is. Nobody but people in the northwest are talking about doing one seriously, though.
I live in Fort mcmurray Alberta, beautiful camping spots in Alberta.
No one wants to do Midwest/Chicago meet up. I know there midwest fp'ers in this bitch. Hopefully some that aren't 12.
I'd be happy to go to seattle/BC next year, but it's a long trip and I'm not sure I'll have the available funds nor time. There's a lot of you in that general area, I'm sure that a more localized group would be capable of pulling it off, someone from that area should take charge since they should know where they're camping. I'd love to just say "shut up everyone this is the plan" but it's quite the undertaking when I'm 2,000+ miles away
Then help me organize a centralized Eastern Seaboard camping trip. I want to try again but I doubt I could get many people interested on my own.
-Snip not yet-
This thread is great and all, but there is too much discussion on where people live, and them bragging about how the field behind their house is better than the entire state of say.. Massachusetts. The OP ideally, needs to make a decision based hopefully off the area of the US that has the densest population of members, and/or cheapest or most lenient campsite owner, also; Sort out the cost of transport between states for members outside the immediate vicinity. Contact, or research campsites within state grounds, or just over the state line. Get the best deal they can, price vs headcount vs travel cost. Get a list of people who could definitely commute towards such a trip. (remember, by all means, camp with a bunch of members you hardly know simply for the sake of camping with people from a forum.) It's just nice to camp with people you've spoken to at least once before. Facepunch as a LOT of members, get to know them.
Nova Scotia, Canada here.
Nova Scotia, Canada here.
There is actually loads of NS FPers, just none of them post in this thread.
Yeah, I remember. I posted a Nova Scotia appreciation thread and there was a surprising good amount of those fuckin' bluenosers. [editline]11th January 2012[/editline] i remember when it was just me and one other NS person here. good times
