You need a Passport or some Federally Approved document. In Michigan we can get an 'Enhanced' Drivers license for $45 and it lets us travel without a passport in between the US and Canada and Mexico. Also, again.. Michigan, U.P you've never camped if you haven't been to the U.P.
is it anything like door county in wisconsin? That place is pretty awesome
at the Half-Life 3 speculation thread:
I think if they don't announce anything at E3, we should legitimately "protest" like those two guys did in front of the office.
Hey guys, I have it all figured out, we schedule the meetup after E3, if Valve doesn't announce anything Half-Life related we'll camp at valve's headquarters. We'll call it: Occupy Valve Software!

If we're going to be camping outdoors, we could try Fort Worden in Washington State. [t]http://usforting.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/fort-worden-battery-kinzie-corridors.jpg[/t] I went there several times when I was in Boy Scouts, and it's pretty fun and cool. There's a lot of concrete bunkers and such, with towers, stairs, trails, tunnels and more. It's a ways out on the peninsula, but worth the trip.
is it anything like door county in wisconsin? That place is pretty awesome
Wisconsin? No of course not. However once you cross the magical line into Michigan, everything is instantly 50% better... except the economy.

Really scenic, and rustic. Lots of coastland wherever you stay, and cheap as hell wherever you like if you hit the place before tourist season kicks in. Went there last spring, was awesome. It has to be BC, since OP said its a camping trip the best play in North America to go camping in is the massive unique and untouched landscape BC offers. [editline]8th January 2012[/editline] Its such a great experience if all you do is bring a backpack full of shit and a small tent. There is a reason BC's motto is "the best place on earth"
If you want to camp near the beach, I'd still recommend the West Coast of the Northern Part of Michigan's lower Peninsula by Ludington or Manistee, all the beaches are sandy, with very few rocks, but you're still very near to the forest and have large sand dunes blocking the winds, it's very nice and mild (70-75F in the summer). If you want to camp in the deep forests I'd recommend basically any part of Northern Michigan or it's U.P. (Upper Peninsula) I don't have any experience with Wisconsin other than hearing they have rocky beaches :v:
Beachcamping is stupid
Probably cause you've never found a good site.
Probably cause you've never found a good site.
I have.. I go backpacking alot in BC, there is a particularly nice untouched island with some abandoned military bunker on it near Sidney.
Whats so bad about beach camping? You camp in a forest near a beach and if you wanted you can go to the beach by hiking there.
Whats so bad about beach camping? You camp in a forest near a beach and if you wanted you can go to the beach by hiking there.
Then all you smell is dead-fish 24/7
Then all you smell is dead-fish 24/7
Our beaches don't smell like dead fish...

Northern Minnesota in the winter or fall is by far the coolest thing ever. The BWCA (Boundary Waters Canoe Area) is a great place for camping / hiking / fishing / canoeing, anything outdoors. [editline]8th January 2012[/editline] A lot of water, too
Well, Summarizes why we should do it in BC, and the majority is for BC anyways. Best place on Earth > Your shit.
Need to separate these, should have 2-3 Meetups. West Coast and Midwest, possibly East Coast (haven't seen many people)

OR Those are just normal parks in BC. You can find that everywhere.
Anyways, this thread really made me miss summer and now I can't wait to go camping with my family later this summer.
Summer camping is pfft, we should do this in January or February.
Not much of a fan of freezing my ass off in 15F weather, much rather relax in 70F weather.
Has it come to the point where we want to make a North-West meet-up thread, or stick in this thread? Agree if so, Disagree if we should keep it confined. Cheers!
This won't work as a camp/meetup simply because the US/CAN is too big, while generally you can hop on a train and be anywhere in the UK within a day. Sure we have the interstate highway system but it's still 37 hour drive (almost $300+ in gas alone) straight plus breaks to get from Ohio to Nevada, and that's not even the whole stretch of the US. I think a much better idea would be a road trip, good ol' US is famous for those. We could pick people up and caravan along the way, the only one that would get the short end of the stick would be those who start the trip on one far side or the other. Also i'd be a shit tonne of time being in a car. Camping is an obvious option of where to stay, and if people have large cars you can simply sleep in them. If there's no camping, there are literally thousands of Hostel's around the entire country that you can sleep in for about $15-$20 a night at most, which are pretty awesome depending on where you go and if you go to the right ones. I stayed at the grand canyon international hostel (which has people from all over the world stay at) for a night this past winter in Flagstaff, it was pretty cool. Either way the reason why Camp Facpunch in the UK works so well is because it's pretty cheap to get to and requires little in the way of commitment, unless you consider a several hour train ride too much commitment. That's not gonna be possible at all with this, unless all 20 of you folks hanging around in BC and washington meetup.
Did you even fucking read any of the thread? At all? Perhaps you missed the fact that we're splitting it into REGIONS. To make it EASIER. [editline]8th January 2012[/editline]
Americans don't have to have a passport book to get in. You can get a Nexus Pass which is essentially the extreme version of a passport. It's $50 for 5 years. They do a criminal background check, do a retina/fingerprint scan, and interview you with both Canadian/American border guards. The pass however gets you into a special line-up for people with the Nexus Pass for speedified border travel. Those in Washington can get an Enhanced Driver's License, which also counts as valid border ID. You can also get a passport card which is not valid for air travel but is valid for land/sea travel and it only costs $55. Canadian Passports do indeed cost $92. However, more people live in BC than both Washington, Oregon, and California combined. Also, why don't you guys want to travel to Canada? It's a fantastic experience, I've been to the States, it's not really unique but Canada is quite different. Definitely less urban than the States I find.
No. We don't need a passport to go into Canada. But fucked if we need one coming back. I had a friend that went to Canada from Indiana, then tried to come back without a passport. According to him it was the "biggest shitstorm I've ever been through"

[editline]8th January 2012[/editline] So who would actually go to a Facepunch meetup in BC? OP you should make a list, at least try and organize this shit.
I predict that anything beside BC will fail.
I predict that anything beside BC will fail.
You're french, your opinion is discounted.
I predict that anything beside BC will fail.
BC/Seattle area. I'm glad to see that I have a lot of Facepunchers in my state.
