I'm 16 and I hope to go, unless its during spring break in which I'll be in europe :v:
I say 16+ if it's going to be south-east, 18+ if it's going to be north-west.
snap
Fuck yes, Central Texas Camp Facepunch. It would be no more than an hour than me.
It's really up to the discretion of whoever chooses to take hold of this trip. I will plan it if nobody else is willing to, but I'm not much of a trip organizer. I just started a thread to get the ball rolling. Plus, I'm 18 so I'm not sure how well that would go with trying to get people to listen (Especially during the trip). Irregardless, it seems the general consensus of the UK FP Trip is that it's an adult-only trip (Generally 18+) but whoever plans the trip can choose the rules, as they will be the one taking the responsibility for the trip. This is no excuse to be dumb though. You are still responsible for yourself, it's just that the trip planner will have to explain if anyone asks why someone is pointing a propane tank at the fire. (See: UK Thread) The only rules I believe that aren't exclusive to the planner's discretion: 1. You must clean up after yourself. 2. Don't do anything dumb or illegal. Drugs are a no-no so nobody is offended and police don't stop by. 3. Be respectful of other campers. Most of us (Possibly myself included) will be new to the area and as such, are guests. We won't be welcomed back if we fuck around. Those should be common sense but I know this is an internet forum so I'll say them anyways.
You are still responsible for yourself, it's just that the trip planner will have to explain if anyone asks why a 16-year old is drinking with a bunch of adults.

drinking
Just what kind of gathering is this?
Just what kind of gathering is this?
What better way to make new friends than over a case of beer? Beer and Camping go hand in hand. However, I suppose that does make it sound like it's a party of alcoholics so I'll edit it a bit. Obviously, non-drinkers are allowed to (I'm not much of a drinker myself), I just figured most of the people attending would enjoy a beer or two, get relaxed and get to know everyone. I'm not endorsing heavy drinking. This is not a party to get drunk at. However, I believe there will be no problem with opening a beer or two. My post was merely to discuss the age limit of the trip, as there may be drinking, and there is a legal drinking age.
That's it, I'm out.
So where is this going to be held? I've never been camping before.... I'm in southeastern Massachusetts, if someone would like to add me to the map (east of Providence, south of Interstate 495)

I turn 18 in august. Also there shouldn't be really excessive drinking at a meet-up
That's it, I'm out.
Why? Judging from the UK Thread, people drink at the UK Meet-up. It's underlined in bold at the bottom with the legal drinking age. I don't endorse anyone bringing a bottle of 151-proof and getting drunk off their ass, but I don't think there would be a problem with anyone bringing some beer and enjoying a drink or two. If I gave off the wrong impression, sorry. It's not like Beer is the main focus of the trip (It's not at all), but rather avoiding any incidents with the law. @Sumap: I think I gave off the wrong impression. I don't mean to endorse excessive drinking, the exact opposite exactly. I just meant that drinking might be relatively casual during the trip so keeping the age limit higher is preferable, just for safety and legal reasons. However, again, it's up to the judgement of whoever takes up the helms of planning the trip.
as long as you guys don't do incredibly dumb shit, i'm fine with you drinking. sometimes you really need fresh air and cold one.
as long as you guys don't do incredibly dumb shit, i'm fine with you drinking. sometimes you really need fresh air and cold one.
That sounds about basically the point I was trying to get across. Opening a cold one? Sure Drinking 151-proof and setting yourself on fire? You're getting the boot. We all want to have a good time and this isn't a house-party. You shouldn't be getting drunk but all I meant to convey was that Beer might be common so the age limit for the camping trip should be relatively high. I wouldn't feel comfortable with someone who was 13 attending. Now, 16-year olds, that's up to the discretion of the planner. Does anyone want to take up planning a NW meet-up? I can possibly do it, but clearly I'm not doing too well at this so far.
Whats wrong with beer, drinking doesent make people go batshit insane. Just make sure you get people to bring shit, and make a list.

Once that's done, we can make a proper meet-up thread like the UK one. However, I can't just say "We're doing this at blahblah and it will cost blahblah" because if nobody can make it, it's useless. Also, it seems like the ideal camping spot is near Vancouver since that's where most people area. Unfortunately, I don't know the Vancouver area at all, what with being in Victoria all the time and never travelling to Vancouver. However, I'll give it a shot if nobody from that area is willing to.
Some of you are getting the wrong impression with drinking. Change of Subject?
Anyone know any good camp-sites in the lower BC area? I'm not too knowledgeable with the Southern-BC area, as I've pretty much stayed on the Island all my life. Any suggestions on good campsites would be fantastic.

There are alot of bus routes in Vancouver so it should be easy for someone in the US without a car to get a greyhound or track train and then take a public transit bus somewhere, or a taxi. But I think the best site near Vancouver is near Golden Ears, its near Maple Ridge. But yeah its abit up there, 13Km from civilization. http://g.co/maps/nxc8w I think the skytrains go to Maple Ridge too, I'm probably wrong though.
Theoretically if the meetup happens to be in Vancouver, what's a good way to get there from calgary
Rail or Greyhound.
Rail or Greyhound.
VIA only leaves from Edmonton and Jasper and costs $200-300 for a round trip. I'll help anyone who wants to set up a NW campout
No one in Toronto? Well add me to the map. Toronto Ontario Canada.
So no northeastern US camping trip? I'm sad.
