Grimdark is good when it's done right. The first thing that must be done with it is that it has to actually set the atmosphere of the setting as you know how it is, the background of the character doing whatever (s)he is doing. Instead of deciding to put it as Cupcakes in where it's just entirely random and the clash between the goody-two-shoes story and ponies and slaughter. Atmosphere must be done first, Or the story can go entirely fuck itself.
