No I don't think that would work, the show is called Friendship is Magic, it can focus on one character of the main cast, but another of the main cast must also be there to show Friendship

Faust admitted that whole locomotive being pulled by ponies thing was really awkward. I wish there was a good way to search comments, because she explained what that whole thing was about on her DA page.
She basically said that they tried a train with just the puller ponies up front, but it looked really strange without some kind of locomotive. They didn't want to have a locomotive power the whole train because that was "too human." So they compromised and had a locomotive that doesn't really do anything, but is pulled by puller ponies. She admitted to it being more than a little odd.

On the same subject, she also stated that they tried to avoid the ponies using anything electrical, or implying that there was any kind of power grid throughout Ponyville. Occasionally though, it does creep into the show. I think there was one instance where the "power" went out in that sleepover episode. There's also stuff like refrigerators, but she said those can be explained away by just having some enchanted magical cold box. You can substitute a lot of electrical stuff with magic if you think too hard about it.
