It prevents parsing. For example, when you copy paste a URL and post it, it will parse automatically. An unparsed URL will just be normal text like this: [b][noparse]http://www.facepunch.com[/noparse][/b] Without the noparse tags, the URL will be parsed like this: [b][url]http://www.facepunch.com[/url][/b]
