I liked the premise to begin with, with the famine. It gave me pangs of The Grapes of Wrath, but then it got consumed by dum "x gets taken over by y" stuff and I was sad

There are enough books and fanfictions about mindless battles and graphic depiction of every sword thrust that the handsome main character makes as he battles the evil bad guy.
