Alright, I'm going to remain optimistic about Lauren Faust leaving her original position on the show.
First of all, while she might have overseen the project as a whole the real work came from the writers, animators, storyboarders, voice actors, etc. They're all still there, and I can only imagine they're smart enough to have picked up on Lauren's intentions for the show. Besides that, she can't be the only person there with good ideas.
As for the other post, I hardly think new characters would spoil the show. I mean, we started off with six main characters and have added several minor characters as the episodes required. The CMCs, Zekora, Mr. and Mrs. Cake, Snips and Snail? The dozen other characters who made a single episode appearance? They didn't ruin the show! They served to flesh out Ponyville and make it seem more alive, like more stuff goes on than what we see the main characters doing. I wouldn't take the "new characters" comment any further than this. If you're worried MLP is going to go Sonic the Hedgehog and bloat the cast with unnecessary characters then I'm afraid you're just being pessimistic.
