Right. Just like how some people react differently to traits in real people, they can similarly react to those traits in characters. You're likely more approving of people who are like Rainbow Dash than Frost is.
See now whats strange is that one of my favorite characters in avatar the last air bender was Toph. I see a lot of similarities between the two but for what ever reason I don't feel the same way about Dash as I do Toph.
5h 51 min later the lunch's batcave crumbles. good night world.

Two characters can seem similar by comparison but invoke entirely different emotions. Usually this is due to external influences on and around the character within the story. I haven't seen a lot of Avatar but I'm fairly certain the world they live in is a bit of a crapsack. Maybe a narcissist seems more understandable in a setting where you have to look out for yourself rather than in the relative prosperity of Equestria?
Yeah, it would suck if people started bashing on the baby for being born. Personally, I wouldn't care if that was the reason. In fact, I'm pretty sure a child is probably more of a helping hand than a burden for an artist like Faust.
You mean like an Axe Cop sort of thing? Because that would be fucking awesome.
I'm starting to wonder if Sparkwire will ever release his Pony Roosebelt.

It really an amazing series with some impressive animation. Hopefully you aren't put off by it being anime. Anyway back to my character dilemma. That makes a lot of sense Toph really has to put up with a lot. The time and place really affects how she acts so I guess for me it comes across as a coping mechanism. You are very wise Bathhacker in the ways of stories, thank you.
It's more likely that Episode 3 will be out before that gets released :v: [editline]9th May 2011[/editline] Too bad it isn't.
Ok well its wester influenced.
It's Asian influenced.
Anime is the style not the origination though...
Oops thats what I meant :specialschool: I am dumb.

It didn't pan out in the end, but I learned a lot about character analysis. Now, cartoons are hardly as sophisticated as books as far as character development goes, so the analysis is quite a bit more simple and actually pretty fun. I still write as a hobby, since my livelihood doesn't depend on how good it is. This MLP thing I've been writing recently is actually my first fan fiction. It's posing some interesting challenges. Oh and I'll look into Avatar. I watched a couple of episodes but it looked like it wasn't something you could just jump into in the middle. I'll have to watch from the beginning.
Hopefully you aren't put off by it being anime
Uhhhhh... This was said: In a thread about a little girls cartoon show, Full of supporters of this show, That frequently draw their own and rate other's artwork, With dominant pink and purple colours, About ponies, To a pony fan, With an avatar of a pony. I REEEEALY don't think art style is a problem.

Oh, and as far as Avatar's storyline goes, every episode has the problem and a resolution, but there is an important overlying plot to the whole thing, watching in order is definately worthwhile.

Yeah I actually watch anime from time to time. Have you guys ever watched One Piece? The show is actually pretty good but 4kids screwed it up when they did the translation. They actually took clips from the show and sort of wrote their own story for it, cutting out story arcs that later would become extremely important. Anyway, the show is still running in Japan after over 10 years and something like 500 episodes, and the creator of the show says we just hit the halfway point. Despite running for that long it's still a very coherent story that spends quite a lot of time developing its characters and plots. Plus, it's funny, always a plus. Definitely worth a watch. </one piece fanboyism>
Also quick question: what do you guys call the magic levitating thing that unicorn ponies do when they pick things up? I've always called it ponykinesis.

Maybe I'll check it out,
I hate anime though.
Just the art style in general? [editline]9th May 2011[/editline] Man I cannot automerge to save my life.

Looks like someone beat the other guy to an abridged series. What makes these guys different is that they are already established, and they take a new take on the show by giving the mane cast manly voices: It's okay, but needs some improvement.
No. Everything about it.
I will level with you. There is A LOT of really bad stuff out there. I get that but there is some good, you just need to look.
Time for school.
No. Everything about it.
Well there are just as many genres of anime as there are of western animation. I think it's a little silly to hate them all. And just like there are good cartoons and terrible cartoons there's good anime and bad anime. If you'd be willing to give it a chance, there's an anime that is sort of a parody of anime. It doesn't take itself seriously, and the English translation is pretty good if you don't want to read subtitles. It's called Gurren Lagann. It's a mecha anime that some people consider to be the more epic, Japanese sister-show to Megas XLR. Plus it's a lot shorter than One Piece, clocking in at less than 30 episodes. If you've ever heard ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH, that's from Gurren Lagann.
You can't make me.
I guess I can't. But I still think you should at least give it a chance.
Stubbornness powers: activate.
Its super affective. :saddowns:
Stubbornness powers: activate.
My Little Pony show: A-OK An entire country's worth of animation: Nope.
Opinions
Your opinion is silly.
I used to be the same. But then I was like "wait this is stupid maybe I should actually watch some one of these days"
