NATO ( North Atlantic Treaty Organization) wouldn't do shit. Their primary concern in security in Europe. It's basically the US, South Korea and probably the JSDF who are going to be involved against the North.
Every NATO member is obliged to defend any member if said member is attacked.
Every NATO member is obliged to defend any member if said member is attacked.
Unfortunately, NATO's scope is only in Europe and North America. South Korea is not part of NATO and I don't think any member country other than UK, Canada and the US can deploy forces to the Korean theater within 90 days.
Oh yeah, each member of NATO is obliged to assist, not required. Korea isn't going to be Soviet tanks rolling across the Fulda Gap.
War would be awful. However, maybe this time we can unify the two Koreas.
China's economy means nothing without the US or EU. They have so much money invested into both of us that if they were to piss one of us off and manage to not aggravate the other they'd still take a huge blow to their economy. If China knows what's best for them, they WILL NOT directly fight against the US.
What are we going to do, boycott cheap Chinese goods? Boycott the Chinese factories that produce our goods?
The world economy would suffer, not just China's.
Korea isn't going to be Soviet tanks rolling across the Fulda Gap.
Yup. They sold all of those to China long ago.
TheY stock pilebon missles and nukes

No, the PRC makes their own tanks. Remember the Sino-Soviet Split?
No, the PRC makes their own tanks. Remember the Sino-Soviet Split?
You don't get the point. NK are selling anything they can to China, to hold for a bit longer. It's not the matter of China wanting/needing it, it's about their alliance and "trade".

I don't think they have anything else to "sell" other than scarce livestock and grain.
There are actually accounts of the people in work camps being used by the North Koreans to make goods which are resold on the black market later.
fuck we dead y'all
The North would never win, that's ludicrous. The Norths military is weak.

Ugh... No it's not. NK has one of the strongest militaries in the world. Just because it's a small country doesn't mean it's weak. Sure most of their shit is outdated, even IF NK thinks their 40 year old weapons are top of the line in the world, they've still got over a million soldiers and a shit-ton of tanks.

Even Kim Jong eel acknowledged that the military is incredibly outdated and only serves as a propaganda tool for his regime.
What the hell would a platoon of them do when they see an A-10 destroy their entire armor column or a hunter killer drone?
The only real military concern would be the intricate network of underground complexes or the cross border shelling towards the beginning of the war, but if there ever were a confrontation, The North would be quickly defeated.
China is an X factor, but what do they have to gain (or lose) from intervening in a Korean Conflict?
The myth that the NK military is stronger than SK's is evident in this thread. SK is more than capable of defending itself and most likely, with help from NATO, could take over the whole of the Korean peninsula.
See: www.globalfirepower.com
Someone really needs to do something about how much of a shithole NK is.
I mean watch the vice travel guide videos it's fucking horrible.

If NK ground forces retain some Soviet doctrine, then those A-10s are going to have to fly through a lot, and I mean a lot of mobile and fixed anti-air assets.

Username + post combo right here.
If a war did break out and China sided with NK, it could cause quite a huge war.
This. China is why the original war ended like it did.

Assuming they're in good enough condition, hidden well enough, and fueled well enough, then yeah, but otherwise they'll just get destroyed by sea or ground or even air.
A comment from a digger in Seoul
*****'s getting serious here in Seoul. For the first time I have a backpack with supplies and my passport in case war breaks out.
Many Koreans are in real fear of it for the first time in their lives.
Neither side wants to back down on this. The South has proof, and the North claims it's a lie and will go to war over it. Kim Jeong Il is dying and might be looking at his last hurrah while he's still alive and the North still have the military power to go out with a bang.
Everyone time I hear someone not from here talk, I want to slap them. The North has tunnels into Seoul that could deliver tends of thousands of troops within an hour. This is not wild speculation, this is a fact. A few of the tunnels have been discovered by pure luck.

***** could get scary here in the blink of an eye. It's just a matter of when, and there have been so many cries of "wolf", that no one will believe it until it's going full force.
Time to kill some Reds.

Scary as fuck. I wouldn't want to live in Seoul right now.

Despite what many American techno-wankers tell you, not everything on the battlefield can be targetable by fancy hi-tech sensors and satellites.

too bad it can
thats not even the point, regardless of robots and the death star, the north korean army is outfitted for a late 1950s early 60s war.
It's 2010.
Now do you see my point?
That's besides the point. assuming Tomahawk missiles, cruise missiles and UAVs were able to destroy even a fraction of the anti air assets, those that remained could be easily destroyed by ground forces.
U.S needs to back the fuck out. This is not our war and if we rush to support with SK then guess who's shit we got too? China. China will have to stand with their pact on NK and China is a pretty big player.

NK is the dying man of asia. China would be wise to stay out of it entirely.

Yeah, your point is that you're assuming that the North Korean military has not even adapted one bit in doctrine or training to face adversaries with more modern equipment.
Not everything is targetable. Otherwise, Enduring Freedom would've been long over by now.
