NK is the dying man of asia. China would be wise to stay out of it entirely.
China does rely on bigger economical development. I don't know if they are willing to throw that away to help NK and toss US relations out the window.
Yeah, your point is that you're assuming that the North Korean military has not even adapted one bit in doctrine or training to face adversaries with more modern equipment.
Not everything is targetable. Otherwise, Enduring Freedom would've been long over by now.
They Haven't.
They literally invested everything in building a 60s era conventional military.
Kim admitted it, he knows this is all a game, north korea is his own personal entertainment.

That makes no sense, We're talking mechanized and aerial warfare, you're going on about guerilla tactics.
This. China is why the original war ended like it did.
Never forget the Soviets. Who gave every single Chinese and Korean man a gun and a uniform.
<3
I wonder what Russia will say about this. They had tried to keep relations with NK, but there's nothing for them to gain in this conflict.
ever notice that the only fat north korean is kim jung il?
As for China stepping in, they are second on the power scale, but they don't compare with the USA. The US can wipe out their army in a manner of weeks using plain old aircraft carriers. I don't think China wants to be in ruins or start a major war anytime soon.

The point is that far too many people assume that American's technological superiority makes everything from the infantryman's belt buckle to the largest bunker targetable with advanced PGMs and all that.

So? You're like saying that a military with outdated equipment will only tickle a modern force before the inevitable fatal counter attack.
I guess we just have to wait and see what happens...
also funny how people are trying to sound smart and making radical claims without proof

Guys, when this all blows over I'll be able to say "Look at me! I spent 20,000 dollars on an autograph from a madman who wanted to control the world!" :buddy:
Kim knows how bad his country is, he only cares about himself. The country is his own personal entertainment, a plaything. He knows he would lose a war but he would send his forces to fight anyway because its all a game to him.
Read the website FAQ, it really changes your view of things over there (That is, unless you're one of those "Pff surrre" readers.)

Yes.
As soon as Kim dies nothing will hold back the blind misguided fools who want war with the south, they think they can win in a conventional war against the United States.
ala fighting the romans on their own terms. Bad idea.
(also, and the iraqis had better technology than the north koreans do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_War)
North Korea has the 5th largest army in the world, and nukes. :ohdear:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj5lrGc8eE8 On topic because it's Korean.

So you're saying that American forces will only have a token amount of casualties against a 1+ million army? The North Koreans are not ignorant about Desert Storm and the capabilities of the US military. Even though we know the end result, the North Korean military is not an easy nut to crack.

Is that for ... real?
If war breaks out anytime soon I hope conscription isn't enforced anytime soon :(
In 1964, in the Vietnam war, an American ship was attacked in the Tonkin bay. It's called the [urhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Tonkin_Incident]Tonkin incident
The tonkin incident gave the president of America, president Lyndon B. Johnson, all the power to attack north Vietnam. No more did he need permission from the congress to execute a military action.
Later (in 1974 I believe) people found out that the Tonkin incident was set up by the Americans. It never happened.
The situation with the boat in North Korea could be similar, but I hope it's not.

We could theorize alot about this, but I really don't trust NK, and they we're the first to air this theory
It doesn't seem like the North not to take credit, and I wouldn't put it past the US to do a false flag, but it doesn't make sense to do it now of all times.

Can people please stop this "wipe out army in a few weeks" thing? It's stupid and it's getting old. Open your damn eyes, no where are you going to be able to wipe the army of a country after a few weeks of warfare. And definitely not China's.
[editline]10:02AM[/editline]
Let me just bring up Afghanistan and Iraq again, look at what's going on there. The war have been going on for 8 years.
I'm from South Korea, I'm going to be dead.
I'm from South Korea, I'm going to be dead.
Heh, I wonder what would happen if you gathered some of your friends armed with gun looking things and then rush toward the border.
How long until the 2012 conspiracy nuts get all other this.
Nam.
I hope China decides to backup NK so the U.S. can kill two birds with one stone.
:smug:
US won't beat China on it's own
Yes, the US is falling in power quickly. China is in a time period like when the US had the industrialized boom.
Projected in 10 years, India will have the largest market.
It was the UK that had the as you say "industrialized boom" The USA is what Britain would be if it had the resources it wanted.
This is going to be a fucking nightmare. This isn't the 20th century guys, the last time a war of this scale was fought was WW2. Think about it - this isn't going to be the Iraq war easy win. The world's going to be changed after it starts. Fiction will be written about it for decades. Images of a destroyed Korea and it's gigantic, bombed, skyscrapers will persist for decades. Over a million could be dead, the Korean peninsula is arguably more industrialized than a typical western nation. The population of south korea is 50 million. Japan isn't even that far away. Ideas of everything will change as we know it. We will have more vets than Vietnam. This is going to be a conventional ground war, massive in size and scale, with possible nuclear and political escalation involved in this. Biological weapons including possibly smallpox and anthrax could be used. The ramifications could spread throughout the world. Korean companies such as Panasonic could go extinct due to asset loss. I even wonder if they'll have me going to boot early for this. My recruiter is half Korean, the guy hasn't contacted me in almost three days, knowing him he's probably trying to contact his family and get them out of there.
I hope his family is alright. We'll get more than we bargained for in this war, I promise you. It's going to be a different world after this is over.

Vietnam, Korean War, Gulf War, Congo. This isn't something that's likely to escalate into a world war.
Think about it - this isn't going to be the Iraq war easy win. The world's going to be changed after it starts. Fiction will be written about it for decades. Images of a destroyed Korea and it's gigantic, bombed, skyscrapers will persist for decades.
Easy win? It's not over yet. Their military was a joke, Saddam was defeated easily - but the main opposition was never Saddam's army. This is also not the 20th century, Korea will rebuild quickly and NK would have a proxy government installed (Hopefully) and rebuilt with western or Chinese money.
Over a million could be dead, the Korean peninsula is arguably more industrialized than the western world. The population of both is immense. Japan isn't even that far away.
No it isn't. It's dense, but no more than large American cities. Japan won't be touched, it's too far away and too well protected. China won't do shit to Japan. NK can't do shit to Japan.
This is going to be a conventional ground war, massive in size and scale, with possible nuclear and political escalation involved in this. Biological weapons including possibly smallpox and anthrax could be used. The ramifications could spread throughout the world.
Highly doubtful. NK doesn't have launchable nuclear weapons, and his generals won't want to set off a static bomb - destroying their heritage and power, or their people. I seriously even doubt they could afford to buy in or produce enough bio-weapons, and as soon as they do, they will receive no support from China or Russia.
Korean companies such as Panasonic could go extinct due to asset loss.
Nope. They have huge markets in the west, and all the CEO's would leave long before any war. No major company will go down. Any large companies will likely be propped up by US/Nato bail-out money to help stabilize the market.
I hope his family is alright. We'll get more than we bargained for in this war, I promise you. It's going to be a different world after this is over.
Stop panicking. This isn't China or Nazi Germany. It's North Korea, who will have very few allies willing to back them up. If it doesn't blow over, it'll be forgotten about it a couple of decades.
