This is going to be a fucking nightmare. This isn't the 20th century guys, the last time a war of this scale was fought was WW2. Think about it - this isn't going to be the Iraq war easy win. The world's going to be changed after it starts. Fiction will be written about it for decades. Images of a destroyed Korea and it's gigantic, bombed, skyscrapers will persist for decades. Over a million could be dead, the Korean peninsula is arguably more industrialized than a typical western nation. The population of south korea is 50 million. Japan isn't even that far away. Ideas of everything will change as we know it. We will have more vets than Vietnam. This is going to be a conventional ground war, massive in size and scale, with possible nuclear and political escalation involved in this. Biological weapons including possibly smallpox and anthrax could be used. The ramifications could spread throughout the world. Korean companies such as Panasonic could go extinct due to asset loss. I even wonder if they'll have me going to boot early for this. My recruiter is half Korean, the guy hasn't contacted me in almost three days, knowing him he's probably trying to contact his family and get them out of there.
I hope his family is alright. We'll get more than we bargained for in this war, I promise you. It's going to be a different world after this is over.
You sound like you are writing a cheesy war game storyline. I LIVE in South Korea and on top of that, I LIVE in Seoul. This whole thing has been blown the hell up by the Western Media. The Koreans here are not anywhere near scared of Kim Jong Il or North Korea.
I was here during the 2006 and 2008 nuclear tests and missle launches and nothing ever came of that, South Korea initiated small levels of sanctions and nothing ever came of it. You are overestimating the North Koreans. Their soldiers are all 5'2 people and are very frail compared to South Koreans, in an all out war, South Korea and allies would steamroll them into the ground. I know what they look like, Ive looked at North Koreans face to face before, I know they cant do shit.
My father worked 10 years in Korea as a part of the Defensive Grid located on all the bases and also as a Military Strategist, he said theres no way they will do anything to risk having their nation fall into nothingness.
So calm down, you dont understand anything on this conflict except what the news shows you and what your creative mind wants to think.

A baby with a gun can still kill.

You really shouldn't underestimate the North Koreans. Also saying that they are 5'2 is completely irrelevant.
CoD 8 in the making, right here.

the only good deal going for them is thousands of artilleries and missiles at directly at Seoul.
other than that, they have cold-war era weapons with starving soldiers while our SK troops are more or less, one of the most advanced military in NATO.

Well, its pretty obvious that the North Koreans will be physically weaker and fall to exhaustion much faster than any other more modern soldiers. The only issue would be their huge numbers.

Yeah, but his point that we shouldn't be alarmist and freaking out is plenty valid.
Guys like Xystus constantly blow up international issues like this as much as they can.

penpal in North Korea.
Ahhaaa!
Its better that USA and everyone else just stay out of this, the China isn't going to risk having NATO on its borders, the worst thing China might do is to annex N-Korea and sign an agreement with the S-Korea so that they retain the same borders.
Agh, that was worded so bad, but you get the point.
Anyway, if China gets involved in the war, the whole world is fucked. Why? Because everyone is too depented on each other, and during a depressiong like this we are buttfucking ourselfs with a chainsaw if those ties gets cut. If China goes war with USA, both's economy get so royally molested that we would be back in the stone age in no time.
Before rating dumb, just take a minute reading this, and thinking. I can't really put it any better way right now. But please, think about it

I gave you nice rating
And think about the starving citizens of North Korea, they already have suffered enought, and knowing USA's tendency to bomb whatever the fuck they see moving, the more reason they should sit out this one
As for China stepping in, they are second on the power scale, but they don't compare with the USA. 13. Is North Korea a dictatorship?
No, the DPRK is a single-united-party constitutional democracy guaranteeing freedom of speech and assembly to all citizens. DPRK citizens play an active role in their nation's political life at the local, regional and national levels, through their trade unions or as members of one of the nation's three political parties, which include the Workers' Party of Korea, the Chondoist Chongu Party and the Korean Social Democratic Party.

yes thats because it isnt a war its a counter insurgency.
the actual battle and war against the iraqi military lasted a matter of days.
Its better that USA and everyone else just stay out of this, the China isn't going to risk having NATO on its borders, the worst thing China might do is to annex N-Korea and sign an agreement with the S-Korea so that they retain the same borders.
For fucks sake everyone, NATO isn't going to be involved in a regional conflict like Korea. Their concern is security in Europe, not Asia.

The chances of the PRC being involved in the next Korean conflict militarily is 0.01%. Their involvement at the most would be discreet logistics support and brokering a treaty between North and South. They really don't want South Korea waving to them across the Yalu River.

and we're still being killed by insurgents and "terrorist" groups.
The insurgent part would likely happen in NK, most of them are brainwashed to balls.

they can't afford to put those numbers into service
They would have to feed, equip, train, move and deploy 600,000,000 people.
That would cost nearly their entire GDP to maintain a force like that for a week.
At most they can deploy 1-2 million soldiers at a time. But it doesn't matter if you have millions because everyone else worth a damn does too. It comes down to experience and technology in which case the US has the clear advantage after fighting for 8 years.
This is all besides the point I'm trying to make here, you all assume that NK is ready to fight a guerrilla war against the United States. They aren't.
They have been training and preparing to fight the Korean war all over again with roughly nearly the same technology as they had in the 50s. They are prepared to go mono e mono conventionally against the ROK and USA. You don't fight superpowers conventionally, its basic history.

Yes a great insurgency indeed.
They've killed 4,100 Americans in 8 years and lose every major battle and firefight.
You can bet your baloney sandwich the Americans have killed a lot more of them.
Well in the last Korean conflict, the Chinese never officially declared war, just like the US did in Vietnam (attacking Lao and Cambodia). I do believe that if the shit did hit the fan, then SEATO would be fucked as China would pour into Korea like they did last time. The UN would probably get involved like last time and a Joint Defense Force would be formed to sort it out, so all i can say is it should stay political, the moment it escalates to a war we are fucked, although no one has the ball to press the big red WW3 Nuclear button.

I quoted this because I didn't want Idi Amin to be upset anymore. Be a good boy now, alright?
No one said anything about North Korea fighting a guerrilla war. Remember that the NK regime commands a lot more political legitimacy and loyalty than say Saddam's government so it's impossible to say if the KPA will or will not just melt away into North Korea after a conventional military defeat.

Except the North Koreans have analyzed past US operations enough to learn lessons from them. There's a nice read here for those who think North Korea can be flicked away as easily as 1991 Iraq.
Oh, you were talking about the PLA? They're not Iraq nor North Korea.
