Accutane - Cures acne, can cause horrible death. Worth it?

I took accutane, I'm fine. The side effects are rare (except for the common ones heh), it made my skin a lot clearer and now I don't really have any acne. It was worth it for me, I feel a lot for confident and etc. However, if any extreme side effects occur then it is not worth it.
Accutane is the kind of thing for people who have acne so bad their quality of life is seriously impaired. (Extremely painful acne, etc)
It's really the last thing you should be considering.
Find a creme with Benzoyl Peroxide in it, 2.5% - 5% is sufficient. Any more and your skin will start peeling off. Shit works great.
Which explains why two people who have gone through 7+ years of training and are under a tight NHS budget would prescribe it?
Developing and testing a drug for safety takes 8+ years (I think it takes 10-14 on average?) and costs millions. Any risks are massively overstated.
Ahh, sorry - 2 posts between the one I was answering to. (I was answering Nick Nack's post)
I had acne causing physical discomfort and it destroyed my self-confidence to the point where I physically refused to go out for a short while.

Really the side effects are only mentioned because at some point such a thing DID happen to someone taking the medicine, and they just don't want to keep any possibility untold.
What the hell, how is this legal?
Precisely, that's why I got irritated at Nick Nack's post.

Because of 10+ years of testing with a massive budget and then constant re-evaluation?
Along with massively overstated risks.

He won't be given it unless the Doctor thinks he really needs it. Prescriptions are pretty tightly controlled in the UK.
Also, your GP can't prescribe this stuff if you were wondering - a consultant dermatologist has to.
Took it, might have gotten a depression because of it, though that was 6 months later...

Everywhere in the world there are doctors who love their prescription pad a little too much. UK isn't immune.
Fuck no. Face wash stuff works fine for me, as I don't have very bad acne. Even if I did, the side effects are far more scary than other meds I've seen
I have some zits here and there, but I have some really bad scars. Not to mention my really oily skin. Is there any way to get rid of all the oil?

why is any medicine legal it causes mean things sometimes

Didn't for me
try washing your face
My cousin took this.
His skin was so dry and red all the time that his face looked like a volcano. Even chapstick wouldn't heal his lips.
Unfortunately, he had to take it for a year, and it didn't work that well. After he got off it, his skin went back to being normal (he had to peel off the flaky skin all over his face, upper chest, and back). He still had acne until we took him to the beach a few days ago. He got some sun and burned/tanned a bit, the acne disappeared.
I'd take it. Those symptoms are probably exaggerated, and if they start to show, you could always just stop taking it. I don't personally know what it's like to have insane acne, but my cousin did, and it was terrible for her, until it cleared up.
my ex used to be on it, turned her into a fucking lunatic, the symptoms are not exaggerated at all. i honestly believe it fucked her up permanently; after finishing her course of it she turned really weird. also it made her lose her appetite completely, making her disgustingly thin and gave her some serious kidney damage. it's your choice but she certainly shouldn't have been on it, she hardly even had acne.

There will always be the one person who reacts differently to it.
It's a severe medication for severe cases, and in most of these cases, it works.
Had a shit-dicking ton of pimples and bumps under my skin, went to the beach on vacation, got some sun and some fresh air, cleared right up.
What I'm saying is, sunshine and fresh air helps a great deal. Get outside, FP
Not when your acne is genetic and takes more than than the standard cleaning method to remove it.
Yep it is in Europe. How it go for you?
no side effects thus far except a minor swelling on my right cheek
but i had a very severe, painful case of acne on my torso+back and its hepled a bunch
I was on it from 2007 for 6 months, these are my pictures:

Mid way through, you can see the dryness of my lips:

And today:

Worst part was the dryness, I had Vaseline on my lips 24/7 for 6 months, I would open my mouth and the sides would crack and bleed, and I would wake up and have a pillow covered in blood from a nose bleed.
Was I depressed? No not really, but then again I wouldn't even say it boosted my confidence, I had my acne for so long and it took so long to clear I didn't really notice it, and I think this has carried on to now as I was constantly being rejected by girls I has lowered my confidence even without the acne.
I had the treatment through the NHS and so it was free. If you go through the NHS, expect it to take about a year, as you have to try everything else - accutane is the last one, and once you get given an appointment, the NHS waiting list was about 2 months.
I have the scars now and the NHS don't cover this, and I'm looking at treatment which could cost around £1,000 - £2,000 privately.
But still, worth doing if needed.
You can buy creams at the store that are around 30 dollars that clear up scarring, thats what I did
Didn't for me
Well then you're likely one of the rare cases where stronger medication is appropriate.
You can also get 10%+ Benzoyl Peroxide face washes with a prescription
It worked great for me, although I can't really comment on the side effects because at the time I wouldn't have noticed a negative difference anyway.
If you start to feel different just bring it up with your dermatologist or whomever prescribed it.
I found stuff called Witch's Hazel, and it works great.
Just grow a beard, it can cover a good portion of your acne.

I've used that for sunburns before and it worked, never knew it could be used for acne as well. Neat.
My brother and I both took it. The only things that ever bothered me were chapped lips and nosebleeds, and I get those anyway. My brother turned out fine too. Oh, and don't get/get anyone pregnant while you're on it. That stuff causes some serious birth defects while you're on it.

If your lucky enough to be able to then I agree with this, myself however being 17 and only having blonde 'fur' and 3 or 4 little bristles and a barely visible tasche hair then... not so good.

Plus I only have to shave like once every 6 months.
