I'm Scottish, and have worn these before (But only for special occasions) And sorry to somewhat put a damper on things, but the Irish invented these.
If you think that kilts aren't skirts, you are factually incorrect.
Is this like the fedora where nerds think it's just the coolest fashion statement ever? Because I'm looking at the OP and none of these people in the pictures are pulling the look off except Sir Connery.
Nice to know that my tartan is seen by all. I am related to Sean Conner after all. On my nans side.

itt: lack of sean connery
I'd try one if I didn't break out in hives every time the smallest piece of wool touched my skin.
I would get a kilt but unfortunately i'm worried how i'd look in purple and green tartan (my family's name is a sect of the Gordon clan). But i'm English so :v:
My clan's tartans. Another one of my tartans. I would love a skirt in the red tartan.
Is it true you don't traditionally wear anything under it? If so, why?
Is it true you don't traditionally wear anything under it? If so, why?
It would feel nice. Y'know, cold air on your dick?
Is it true you don't traditionally wear anything under it? If so, why?
They're heavy thick long material in the first place, so they tend to block out the wind. I did a bit of digging around and found out my Great Grandmother was one of the Grant's. Another great grandmother was also Scottish but i'm not quite sure of her tartan.
I remember at my aunt's Scottish wedding in Canada I had to wear a kilt. Shit was so cash. Breezy too.
Nicolson Clan here. Problem is there were 2 Nicolson clans so this might not be the correct tartan. [thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6b/MacNicol_or_Nicolson_tartan_%28Logan%29.png[/thumb]
Clan tartans only go back 2 centuries. Before that people just wore the style the local weaver made, wearing tartan didn't show you belonged to a certain clan or such.
My Dad wore a kilt when he got married
I counted about 0 actual Scots in this thread, disappointment. Yer best nae wearin ah kilt if yer nae fae Scotland.
Och aye the noo sonny jim. [editline]7th July 2011[/editline] Also, the sheer torture inflicted by the socks.
Another piece of advice i got told, traditionally you would take your clan from your mothers side, as back in the olden days you would not know who your father actually was... this is what the guy in the kilt shop down the road from me always tells people, however i don't normally mention it to people when selling them a kilt lol
Nicolson Clan here. Problem is there were 2 Nicolson clans so this might not be the correct tartan. [thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6b/MacNicol_or_Nicolson_tartan_%28Logan%29.png[/thumb]
high five fellow nicolson thats also the correct tartan for Clan Nicolson
I feel that kilts are only for the scottish people, I find it pretendious that someone who has absolutely no scottish blood would wear one of these. But who am i to judge, after all these were made for the sake of simplicity and for taking easy shit and piss while on move and you can put a toilet paper roll in the purse. So i suppose they're for everyone.
Also, no Kilt is complete without your Sgian Dubh.

Wore my kilt for St. Patties day (yes I know it's an Irish holiday) along with my brother and two of my friends. Nobody made fun of us and we got compliments all day like some bad motherfuckers :v: [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] Also if I posted my pattern, do you guys think you could find it for me? I've never been able to find it, and the kilt that I currently own is Scottish National.
I look way too girly for a kilt :(
